one of the best mexicans in Roanoke

very yummy food, great service clean . The music is just loud enough . We always drive past this place and wanted to try them out. We were very happy to try them tonight

Placed a to go order and drove 20 mins there. Once I got there the lady L G initial who took my order went and got the order. I got home only to realize she swapped orders and handed the wrong orders to 2 people. I called and requested a manager the same lady who took my order said she was manager. I called back a few times before i drove back. Once she answered I requested name of manager and she refused. I then proceeded to drive all the way to return the food and request my refund receipt. Upon receiving reeipt i see she scratched her name out to avoid giving a review. Terrible customer service will never order here again!

My feelings about the cheese blend at this restaurant. Change it back
Nia L.

Ive been coming to this place since the late 90's and only today do I feel compelled to write a review. I ordered the same thing I always do, enchiladas poblanas. The mole sauce is quite good but not spectacular. Service is generally quick and the staff is reasonably attentive and not overbearing. The disappointment comes in the fact that they changed their cheese blend. The previously and most widely used white shredded cheese used at Mexican restaurants is some sort of white cheddar or maybe Oaxaca blend, but they seem to have switch to blend with what tastes and looks like Colby cheese. I can't even deal with this. I used to look forward to making my own little nachos with the free chips and salsa and a bowl of their shredded cheese, alas, no more. Please change your cheese recipe or source from someone new. This isn't working.

Salsa on table before I sat down!

Good points always go last, well the service was mediocre. I couldn't get dessert because the kitchen closed, It's fine though, I'll live. On the other hand, food was amazing (recommend Texas fijitas) the staff is really good looking if youre into young Hispanic men, probally the best restaurant in town considering it's this and Mickey d's.

a plate of chips and a drink

Im only giving them a 1 because I have to give them something. My husband and I went for lunch for the buffet. First off they dont have much on the buffet. The food didnt look to fresh. Get back to the table and they have put chips and salsa on out table. I see they are burnt and greasy. I asked for a new basket. She said why I told her and she said they all was cooked together. So she took the basket away then my husband and I both thought that it was the same basket. I also saw a couple of workers keep watching us and them would laugh. Just dont think I will eber be back. I will go to the place off of Plantation. Much better food.

Located in an up…read moreand coming chick area at 416 Salem Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia, it reasantly went through a thorough renovation. I arrived for an early dinner on a Wednesday late afternoon / early evening. Very impressed with the quality building structure renovation and with the elegant open space interior design, I asked the Host / Server for a table and I was seated and given a copy of the menu. To drink I ordered the Housemade Lemonade. As I waited and examined the menu, I observed the beautiful open space renovation with nice and comfortable furniture and outstanding works of art decorating the restaurant. The server arrived with my drink and a welcoming smile and took my order. For apappetizer I ordered the Chips and Choriqueso. And for my main entry I ordered two Flank Steak and one Pork Carnitas tacos. Two of them Traditional style and one Gringo style. And for dessert the Churrosticks. The iced lemonade was one of the best lemonades I've ever had. Very lemony and the right sweetness. The quality of the Chips and Choriqueso was superb and the tacos were simply delicious. The service was superb. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and provide refills for my lemonade. I can't imagine how good the Margaritas must be at this restaurant / bar. I highly recommend this contemporary restaurant / bar for a place to go alone, to relax, or with family and friends to enjoy some quality time together in a clean and tastefully decorated Mexican restaurant located in a chick location.

Today while I was driving down 13th Street looking for a place to have lunch, I drove by this tiny Mexican restaurant that at first seemed like a run down shack, or a hole in the wall eatery, with only two cars parked in its small parking lot. I missed seeing the restaurant's sign with its name. But for one reason or another, I decided I had to turn back to try it out. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this what I first thought was a no name Mexican Restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. When I turned around and drove back, as I got closer and closer to the restaurant's sign, I saw it was pretty new, and had a Mexican Hat, a Guitar, and some maracas, and read: "Tacos Rojas Mexican Grill Authentic Mexican Cuisine." Little did I imagine that this place was where it all started. Afterwards, after doing my research I found out the whole story about this place. Primary, that it was that it was the first Taco Rojas Restaurant, and where it all started. How appropriate that to conclude Hispanic Heritage Month, I ended up eating and reviewing this Hispanic Historic Restaurant in the history of Taco Rojas. Tacos Rojas was founded by Octavio Rojas, who moved to America from Pueblo, Mexico, 20 years ago. He opened this first restaurant on 13th Street, 12 years ago which had been a convenience store, and has since then expanded to six locations in the Roanoke Valley, including a location in Salem, which features a party room. The family-run business serves authentic Mexican food and has seen growth, including during the pandemic, partly due to its popularity for takeout. The business is family operated, with Octavio's wife, daughter, brother, and other relatives all involved in the restaurants. As I went inside, even though you can tell the place was once a convenience store because it still contained a wide display refrigerator with bottles of bottled drinks, it was clean and well-maintained, painted with lively colors, and different posters on the wall. The small dining area contained a combination of tables and chairs and some booths. The ambiance was warm and relaxed. One that made you feel at home. A young lady came out to greet me and gave me a warm welcome. I took a seat in the first booth and she handed me the menu and took my drink order. I ordered an Horchata. Afterwards I ordered a Carnitas Burrito as my main entrée. While I waited my server brought a basket of Chips and Salsa. Even though in the menu it was listed as an appetizer, it seemed like the first one was complementary. When the food arrived it was amazingly delicious. The shredded pork inside the burrito was seasoned and cooked to perfection, it was nice and hot, and the sauces on top were very tasty without being too spicy. Now I better understood how the humble beginning of Taco Rojas in this place had taken off and grown so quickly. Octavio's mother's recipes for the food were not only authentic Mexican food but delicious. They gave the cuisine here that special magical touch of satisfaction the first time you came, that made you want to come back and tell your family and friends about it. Sometimes it is in places like these that one can have the most extraordinary dining experiences.

At first it seems like a hole in the wall, where you approach and they take your order and payment. Then you go take a seat either in one of the many tables of the Market Building, that are arranged similar to the Food Courts in the Malls, or in one located in a small outside patio (mostly used during the late Spring and Summer, or when the weather is warm). But don't be fool, this restaurant is more than a hole in the wall or part of a Mall's Food Court. Even though the kitchen and ordering counter is located in a very small space. There is nothing small in the quality of the food nor in the very flavorful cuisine. And their customer service is definitely top notch. They have copies of blown up menus next to a window facing the inside of the Market Building so customers can study the menu well before approaching the ordering counter to make the order. They also have the same thing in the outside seating area patio, which is under a roof. And right above the ordering counter, more blown up menus, as well as regular size menus laying on the counter. But besides all this, they have very engaging employees who are very helpful making recommendations on what to order if you are still undecided by the time you reach the ordering counter. And this is precisely what one of them did with me and I ended up with one of the most amazingly delicious Mexican food that I've ever had in any size restaurant. To drink they have a display case refrigerator with many non-alcoholic drinks to choose from, and a small bar counter where Margaritas are made. To drink I got a Jarritos Mango natural flavor soda. And to eat, I took the recommendation of one of the employees taking my order and ordered the Chessy Tacos Birria, which were made with seasoned shredded pork, and came accompanied by a bowl of consomme to dip my tacos in while eating them, and by little bowls of red and green salsa to put on the tacos if I wanted them more spicy. For dessert I ordered a Flan. Since it is Winter, I had my dinner inside the Market Building, where my server brought it to my table, and followed up at the appropriate times to see if I needed anything and who brought me a napkin holder full of napkins without me even having to ask for it. My server did a nice job providing excellent customer service and establishing a wonderful customer relationship to indirectly invite me to come again to try other items of the menu in the near future. I highly recommend this Mexican restaurant to all those reading my review, when you feel like having some good Mexican food in a lovely and relaxed atmosphere, either indoors or outdoors of a Historic Roanoke City Market Building.

From their wonderfully crafted drinks, to their culinary masterpieces of the Mexican cuisine. And above all things, through their exceptional customer service. Even before you walk in the restaurant, there is a small foyer with a colorful bench that reads: "Welcome to Pancho." And as you enter the restaurant these written words materialize into action. There is always someone there to give you a warm greeting that immediately makes you feel at home. That person takes you to either one of the comfortable booths on the side dining room, or to one of the tables in the main dining room. Shortly after you are seated, an assistant server brings you a basket filled with some of the best chips I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. And with it, a bottle of freshly made salsa with the perfect thickness, ingredients, and flavor. That is just what repeated itself today. Then a caring and efficient server came to greet me and take my order. To drink I ordered a large, non-alcoholic Mango Margarita. And to dine, I ordered one of my favorites dishes there: The Flautas. They are three wrapped tortillas around perfectly seasoned and cooked shredded beef, and then fried to perfection. Then they are served in a plate covered with a special sauce and gradded cheese. So the outside is crispy and crunchy and the inside is soft and tasty. They come accompanied by shredded lettuce, with freshly made guacamole and a slice of tomato. All this for a very reasonable prize. After another assistant server brought me this main course, my server came by to see that everything was to my satisfaction and asked me if I wanted another drink or a glass of water to accompany my dinner. I asked for some iced, cold water. Sometime there is noting like water to quench your thirst. It's amazing how all the staff there work perfectly as a team, to make one's dining experience a memorable one, everytime. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review and the others that I've posted when I've dine here and didn't have the time to write a review, and it has been many, to get a sense of the high-quality of the food and the relaxing atmosphere of the place. I told him it was my pleasure because he did a great job in maintaining a wonderful Mexican restaurant. For dessert, I ordered a Flan. It was amazingly delicious. Sweet and of the right density to enjoy its flavor. After I paid the bill and left a good tip, the manager and all the servers who had served me one time or another made sure to say goodbye and I left with a sense of being appreciated for the loyal customer that I had been throughout the years.

And this made the big difference in my perception of this restaurant and their entire culture. It seems to me that everyone is welcomed at Moe's, no matter the color of their skin nor their socio-economic status. And genuinely caring about your customers is something that is lacking in many restaurants and should be top priority in the selection process of their employees. Moe's first started in Atlanta, Georgia in the year 2000 and the letters of their name stand for "Musicians, Outlaws, and Entertainers." They celebrate the unconventional. With the belief that you don't achieve greatness unless you "stir the pot." This Moe's Southwest Grill is conveniently located in the Bridges Shopping Center, next to the South 6 Apartments at the Bridges. It is housed in a beautiful, modern red brick building with their restaurant sign high above in yellow, red, and black colors. High above their two glass door entrance thete is another sign that reads: WELCOME TO MOE'S. Once one steps inside, a sound is heard and all their employees with a big smile shout "Welcome to Moe's." The interior design of the place has exposed black ceiling, large yellowish tile floors and lots of orange and red colors to help create a happy dining experience. It also has lots of windows all around their interior brick walls with posters featuring AUGMENTED REALITY (AR), which can be experienced via the Moe's Rockin' Rewards app. On the right side of the restaurant there is a low wall that goes all around and in front of the ordering counter to lead the way to the large menu on the wall and then to the counter where you tell their employees what you want and you watch them make it right before your eyes. I ordered The Stack with Grilled Steak as my protein and many other items along the way. I invite you to view my photographs that accompany this review. I made it a Meal and got a side of Queso and a Regular Drink. By the way, the Chips are free with your meal, they are made fresh daily, and are thin and crunchy. They also have a complimentary Salsa Buffet, where you can get a number of salsas to go with your chips. And if this wasn't enough, their drink machine is one of those where you can choose an already known drink or make your own by adding many flavors. I found this restaurant to be a clean, lovely place to enjoy a Mexican meal in a happy and fun environment. And I highly recommend this restaurant for it's uniqueness and friendly service, as well as for its variety and quality of food.
