While working in the Newark, NJ area, I searched for an Ecuadorian restaurant nearby. Big surprise there. I found a place by the name of "El Rincon De La Morenita. Yelp had the rating at 4.7. So I took the plunge. When I first walked in, the restaurant had ten people seated. I believe it holds 47 or 48 thereabouts. The waitress handed me a tablet with the menu on it. Immediately, I notice the prices on some of these dishes were, in my humble opinion, a bit pricey for the neighborhood. Hence, the very small number of clients. The menu directs you straight to the specials which are pretty expensive for the area. If you want to find regular menu items, you have to select the protein you want to eat in order to see the options for that particular protein. For me, when I see a special for $35.00 in this area, it makes me wonder for just a second. Then I see the mostly empty restaurant. For my beverage, I ordered a CASTELLO MINERAL WATER. Totally flat with no carbonation. Then I saw the expiration date on the side of the bottle was last year 2025. I wound up ordering the churrasco with rice. It comes with fried eggs, sautéed beef with veggies and french fries. I will say that the flavors are good and present. They could also be a tad bit better. The only drawback for me was the sautéed beef (the beef part of the churrasco). There was so much fat on it that I did not eat those parts. I wound up picking around the fatty parts of the meat. About 1/4 of the beef was fat and sinew. I've never liked this as a kid and I probably never will. It may also just be a matter of preference. Some people do like that stuff. NOT ME!!! On a beautiful day like today, with the sun shining and everyone out walking and dining out, this place should be packed with a line waiting to get in. But, it is less than half full. On the fence about a second visit, for now. read more
