From the beginning, John, the owner, and his son Jonathan were honest, knowledgeable, and straightforward with me. What I appreciated most was that they took the time to properly look into the problem instead of immediately telling me I needed the most expensive repair. They explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, kept me informed throughout the process, and got my Camaro repaired and back on the road. John and Jonathan genuinely seem to care about their customers and doing the job right. After all the stress I had been dealing with trying to get my car fixed, it was a huge relief finding a transmission shop I could trust. Great customer service, honest people, and quality work. I'll definitely be coming back to El Monte Transmission for any future transmission needs. Thank you John, Jonathan, and the whole team! Highly recommend!

He explained that the transmission was having trouble shifting into third gear and would eventually need to be rebuilt. He also provided an estimate for the repair. Since the car is older, I decided not to invest additional money in rebuilding the transmission. Even though I chose not to proceed with the service, John still took the time to explain my options and recommend what I should do next. He went above and beyond, especially considering that the diagnostic was free. I truly appreciate John's honesty, helpful recommendations, and excellent customer service. I highly recommend him.

They spent 2 1/2 days trying to duplicate and isolate the problem, thoroughly checked the external wiring harness, and tested the suspected speed sensor. Everything checked out and the transmission continued to operate normally. Rather than guess or start replacing parts at my expense, they installed a used but known-good speed sensor they had available and told me to drive it and come back if the problem returns. At that point they can continue troubleshooting with at least two possible causes eliminated. Sometimes the best repair shop is the one willing to say, "We can't reproduce the problem, the transmission is functioning normally, and we don't want to charge you for work we can't justify." Five stars earned.

I am writing this review to warn future customers about my unacceptable experience with Affordable…read moreTransmission and Auto Repair Center regarding an ATRA nationwide warranty repair. Background and Initial Service: My vehicle's transmission was rebuilt a few months ago by a different authorized ATRA shop. Due to a recent move, the original shop authorized me to bring the car to this affiliate location, a 30-mile drive from my new home, for a warranty diagnosis. Upon drop-off on 11/18/2025, the front desk employee immediately became cold and dismissive when I mentioned the words "warranty repair." The Issue & The Refusal to Diagnose: The problem is specific and reproducible: when the car is cold, driving downhill causes the transmission to shift into what feels like neutral. Pressing the gas results in rising RPMs but no movement, forcing me to shut the engine off and restart it to re-engage the drive. After two days, I received a call informing me they could not reproduce the issue and were refusing to work on the car. I explained to Miguel that the condition requires a cold start and a specific downhill coast, asking them to try again or keep the car longer. He flatly refused any further testing, stating they were done with the vehicle. Integrity Violation and Fraudulent Documentation: Since they refused to honor the warranty, I requested a written reason for the denial of service, which is standard procedure. Miguel went to review my paperwork. When he returned, he presented a form and demanded I sign it before he would provide any written explanation. This form was an explicit waiver where I would acknowledge that the issue I claimed was not present and that their testing proved my claim was false. I refused to sign a document that was contrary to reality, as the transmission issue is demonstrably still present. The Threat and Escalation: Because I refused to sign the false waiver, Miguel refused to give me any written denial and escalated the situation. He told me he wouldn't help me anymore because I was "not a nice person." When I stated I would write an accurate review of this unprofessional experience, he raised his voice and began threatening me: Threats of litigation. Explicit threats of physical harm to myself and/or my property at my home. Threats to contact my employer to have me fired. I immediately took my keys and walked to my car, with Miguel following me out of the office, continuing to curse and issue threats. This behavior is far beyond poor customer service; it is menacing, unprofessional, and a direct failure to honor the ATRA warranty program. The shop refused to perform due diligence, attempted to force me to sign a false legal document, and threatened my physical safety. Avoid this business at all costs. He made a huge mess of my driveway when he came to pick me up. We suspected the rear main seal was the culprit. A significant repair requiring a professional mechanic. Being a local A.V. resident, I am familiar with the Valco Transmission location off of the 138 in Littlerock and I suggested that my cousin take his van there. Immediately upon entering the office we were greated by smiling faces and a few hounds that were all remarkable in personality... humans and canines alike! :-) I explained the oil leak problem and within 20 minutes they confirmed our suspicion that it was a failed rear main seal. They gave us a great quote and we left it overnight. My cousin had very expensive equipment, including a $10,000 electric mountain bike called the "Stealth Bomber"in the van, so the fully gated and secure facility was very reassuring. No worries at all. With a full day of installing a new main seal, requiring the entire transmission to be removed as well as a failing motor mount and a much needed transmission filter with fluid flush, we were on our way. Not only was the price more than fair, they fully inspected the entire drive train for any potential problems and assured us that the 12 year / 145,000 mile old van was ready for a coast to coast round trip. Talk about piece of mind! The reason I know that we were indeed lucky to be near this family owned & operated company when we discovered such a serious problem is that, in the past, I have had mechanical failures in a one mechanic town and had to pay dubble for sub-standard work while waiting several days for chineese parts. Thank you again Valco!
