I've seen a lot of hype for Doña Chicharrón but unfortunately...it definitely didn't live up to it…read more If there's one word to summarize my experience...it's blandness. I always see Doña cooking the carnitas and chicharrones in the AM I believe. So if you arrive at midday... they've been sitting under a heat lamp for a few hours already. They lose the freshness just a bit. We ordered her namesake... carnitas and chicharrones. The carnitas were lacking definite flavor. They were soft but they NEEDED some lime and salsa. I needed to add flavor because it didn't have much. The chicharrones were hard. If you look at the pic...the white part is obviously lard...the rest is meat. Since the chicharron had been sitting already for several hours, the lard part really was unappealing to eat and it had very little meat, and what it had, was very tough and dry. I know she says she makes them fresh every morning, but these felt almost like a day old. Doña herself seemed very friendly and amiable...I think people return more for her than the food, because the food wouldn't draw me back.

The place has only been open for a couple of weeks, so I stopped by for lunch. It's clean, neat decor and pleasant atmosphere. The staff was friendly. I enjoyed the pico de gallo and salsa which came with the chips, as well as the soup. The menu offers many good choices, so it was hard to decide. Finally chose the Chile relleno. These are often a deal breaker for me, if not done right. One can choose cheese, be f or both. Not only was this a lovely site to behold, but it was delicious. It was a bit mild, but with a bit of the yummy green salsa, problem solved. Probably just right for most customers. I was so happy to see real baby salad greens on the plate, rather than nasty iceberg stuff. The refried beans and rice were really good as well. It does take a few minutes to get one's order. Which is good. Every thing is made fresh and to order. Well worth the short wait. I enjoyed the iced tea, but noticed that they also have some nice looking aqua frescas, including Sandia (watermelon) and fresh squeezed lemonade. The breakfast menu looked awesome, too. Can't wait to go back again with my hubby and give that a try!

Los totopos vienen de diferentes sabores and my favorite is the nopal. They add so much flavor and make the whole dish feel special y bien pensado. They have a great variety of guisos and I had the chicharrón prensado con salsa verde. Buenísimo. The salsas you can choose from are all so so good. De verdad todas están riquísimas. My advice is go with your favorite color porque no hay pierde. You can add as much salsa as you want and every option hits. On the weekends they also have menudo bien riquísimo. De ese que sabe a casa y a domingo en la mañana. My daughters tried the breakfast tacos and they loved them. The flour tortillas are handmade y se nota. You can build different breakfast tacos and they even have one with salchichas just like you would make at home. We also tried the little pancakes and wow. It is a whole treat. Soft warm and comforting. Do not skip the arroz con leche. Tiene sabor a piloncillo and it is súper cremoso. Perfect way to end the meal.

The food is prepared and ready to be plated. The girl at the counter was very nice and explained to us the menu as well as gave suggestions. My husband got a fajita taco and a chicharrón prensado gordita good flavor, nothing wow. I got the chilaquiles box as you may already know I luv trying chilaquiles. I got the chicharrón prensado verde with the Suiza sauce. Good flavor BUT IMO it's missing the egg. In all the places I have ordered chilaquiles egg is an option. I felt with what I ordered I was just eating totopos ( chips) with salsa nothing else. The concept is good but missing the extras. The chilaquiles was less than half the box and for that I paid almost $11. If you see the picture the chilaquiles were below the white letters where it says chilaquiles. Honestly I would rather go elsewhere for chilaquiles.
