I had some enmoladas Which are molé topped enchiladas basically. The wifey had some vegan encacahuatadas. Those would be like enchiladas, but with a peanut sauce as opposed to a tomato based sauce on top. I love this restaurant's ambiance. They had some relaxing instrumental jazzish music playing while we were there. The prices on the menu are in Mexican pesos of course, so if your thinking it's dollars it'll seem really expensive. $120 pesos translates to like $5 dollars at the moment. If your visiting from the states this restaurant isn't very expensive. Good price for a very nice dining experience.

I am on my phone watching Facebook reels. She started to talk loudly to them about things she was not happy about and got louder and louder and got more and more descriptive of things she was not happy about. She spoke Spanish to them and I think she assumed I did not understand Spanish. It got to the point that I felt embarrassed for the employees and I raised the volume on my phone so that I did not have to hear what was being said. It did not work! That made me very upset and I began to get a tight knot in my stomach. She was very loud and talked to them in a very condescending and mean manner. I lost my appetite!!! I could only take so much. I got up from my chair, walked over, interrupted the meeting to motion my waiter to me and told him to please cancel my order because I did not like what was happening in front of customers. I said it was not right. And, I made sure to look at her when I said that. I also said I will never return and walked out. I feel sorry for the employees. I really hope she did not take it out on them. But, I had to say something. This happened exactly as I have written it. The woman did not respond to me in any way. I think she was shocked.

The decor is beautiful with artisan metalwork and traditional paintings of Mexican scenes. The menu offers several kinds of delicious Mexican food, but I recommend the "comida corrida" special where you can have your choice of a soup (a medium sized bowl) plus either a chile relleno or guiso of the day, and an agua fresca. I chose the caldo Tlalpeño and chile relleno (choice of cheese, meat or mixed). The servings were generous and quite delicious. They also provided chips and salsa as well as freshly made corn tortillas to accompany the meal. All that for $165 pesos. The guiso of the day was picadillo or mole. Other soups to choose from included caldo de res (beef vegetable) or sopa de fideo (angel hair pasta). The atmosphere is elegant, traditional Mexican, family-friendly, and the service was very good. My only complaint was that the TV on the wall above us was too loud. When we asked them to lower the volume, they did. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The restaurant is hidden and there aren't any major shopping centers near by. It is next to Hidalgo City's post office but you have to drive deep into a gated area to find it. Once inside, the owner greeted us. She seemed to be the only one running the business, and we were the only ones eating at the place, so that provided a much more personal experience. I ordered a milanesa, which is a lightly breaded steak. It tastes just like a home cooked meal, which is what I was expecting from this place. The meal was good, the price was great, and the natural lemonade was the coupe de grace. It doesn't get more authentic Mexican than this.

They didn't have the quesadillas pictured available, but the server said they could make something similar of that sort. Thankfully, the food did not disappoint. The make-shift "quesadillas" had fajita meat, refried beans, queso blanco, and avocado with a side salad and rice. The flour tortillas were also awesome. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall but totally worth our time and money!
