The hot food bar has a good selection of foods to chose from. I love the agua frescas here! We will buy Barbacoa by the pound here. The fresh made flour tortillas are pretty yummy too! I normally get tortillas at H-E-B but lately they run out all the time when I go. Every time I've been to El Rancho they always have fresh made flour tortillas.

New store as of Nov 2019. They have a small restaurant inside as well as a small Western store, money services, and maybe a few other things you see at places like Fiesta. Then there is the grocery side, huge meat selection and basic grocery store stuff. This place isn't exciting and not much to talk about. It replaced a Kroger's. I'll stop by once in awhile.

So disappointed! My mother purchased masa last night to make gorditas and champurrado for lunch today. I was so excited and waiting for this since I am visiting from out of town and they don't sell this where I live. She opened it and a strong smell of sour cheese came out of the bag. I tried calling the store to complain and let them know they should pull the rest off of the fridge shelves before someone gets sick. The phone rang forever and no one picked up. I understand they are understaffed and also hiring since they advertise in the customer receipt. But they should make sure all their perishable items are fresh to avoid food poisoning and possibly getting sued or shut down by the state.

First visit, located in the old Kroger store shopping center on Hwy 6 N across from Chick Fila. There were many piñatas displayed, vendor booths, and a food buffet for to go meals. It was clean with a large produce areas.

After shopping here since it opened, I will never go back. There is always a line, and the prices are always wrong. I needed eggs, and saw these were on sale 2/$3 (see picture) after standing in line for 5-7 mins, they rang up 4.79. I told the lady, she mentioned they needed to have an orange sticker. How a customer is supposed to know that I have no clue. I went back returned the eggs. After waiting 8-9 more minutes in line again, I mentioned it to what seemed the manager/supervisor. Her response is that it's not her job, I needed to come back in the morning and talk to that manager. I will not go back, and suggest you avoid the hassle, and go to Michoacána or H‑E‑B.

Holes in the bag. With bugs inside.

Herbert's Specialty Meats on Richmond near the Galleria instantly took me back home. The moment you walk in, the number of items from Louisiana is delightful Their boudin, seasonings, and prepared items reminded me so much of my grandmother's gumbo, boudin, and rich, slow-cooked stews--comfort food that warms your soul. You can taste the authenticity and love in everything they make. This is the kind of place that understands balance, spice, and tradition. Customer service was excellent--friendly, patient, and genuinely happy to help you find exactly what you're craving. There are tons of choices, whether you're stocking up for a cookout or just grabbing something to satisfy that Cajun craving. For anyone missing Louisiana flavors or wanting the real deal in Houston, Herbert's is a must-stop. It feels like a little piece of "The Boot"

As winners of the Steak Showdown in Texas in 2023 for the people's choice for best traditional dish and the judges choice for best creative dish, they've garnered a respectable following as a pop-up with Houston foodies on Instagram. Their model for first-come, first-served attracts the curious and past fans of their work. Expect a minimum wait of about 2 hours and pray they don't run out of anything. We made the mistake of dressing moderately warm for the cold temperatures of January, but who would've thought that we'd be seeing 6 inches of snow--and in Houston of all places? Admittngly, the smells waiting in line are absolutely intoxicating. The folks are trying to be as accommodating as possible with how cold it's getting by setting up propane warmers around their setup inside the parking space at PARK BLVD in the Heights, but one can only endure waiting in a crawling line for so long--there can be better process management to attack the demand. It was especially upsetting seeing people jump out of the line just to end up 30 minutes in front of you ordering the last 3 available ribeyes. We ended up getting the LAST tomahawk ribeye that we reserved online the week prior and it was epic..! But talk about stressful... The team also gave us some laotian sausage for standing in line for so long but there's got to be some kind of fail safe in place so that you don't have people waiting hours just to buy up a plate of sides. All the meats should be counted prior and counted as theyre being sold, and maybe limiting 2 entrees per person would help mitigate the amount of empty mouths. Anyway, the food was amazing. I'm definitely coming back on the next pop-up!

Food: 3 Service: 5…read more We came here on a weekday for lunch and the place was bustling with people. I had originally wanted to come because I saw that they sold steaks for purchase you can bring home to cook. However, since it was lunchtime and we were already hungry, we decided to grab some lunch as well. We got the 3 meat combo with chicken, brisket, and ribs. It came with two sides and we chose coleslaw and chicken salad. I thought it was nice they had extra protein choices as sides. They also had a tuna salad and egg salad in addition to pasta salad, beans, potato salad and other options. The food came out quickly and the meats were all very tender. However, they just tasted salty. I had a hard time tasting any other spices/flavors which is what I'm accustomed to at other bbq places. The chicken salad was salty as well. It would've been tastier in a sandwich with some crisp greens versus just by itself. Coleslaw was average. Edible but nothing special. Husband thought it was too sweet. I do have to say the service was very friendly. The worker behind the counter gave us the impression that he really wanted to help and make us comfortable. When I found out they only sold bottled water, he offered to go to the back and grabbed us two cups of tap water, which was a nice gesture because he didn't have to. We ended up not getting any other meats because the unpackaged steaks looked dried out and sad in fridge. I wasn't sure if those were the pieces they would sell you or if they were just for display. But for $34.99/lb, I didn't want to risk them giving me the dried out looking steak. Overall, it seemed like people really like this place . The person in front of my husband said this place has the best burgers! And lots of people kept coming in and out. However, for us, this isn't our favorite.

As a person native born to Houston, but having lived and explored much of the world, one of my favorite things to do is to invite friends to go on a walking tour with me, of the area around the Houston Farmer's Market on Airline. Many years run by the Canino family, as a co-op with local farmers. And when they retired a group of Houstonians, committed to preserving it and making it as nice as possible for shopping. And it's a wonderful place to go shopping for fruits and vegetables and to eat one of the restaurants here. So I usually begin my walking tour with a trip to El Bolillo Bakery to show them the breads and then over to Granel Spices and then to El Rey meat market to show them the chorizo that I like and the freshly made chicharrones and to pointing out the most excellent Mexican restaurant just on the side El Rey. And then heading over to the farmers market proper and showing them the excellent flour tortillas that one can get at Alamo Tamales. A visit to LA Crawfish or other eateries. And also walk and talk about the different uses of the spices and maybe some tropical fruits that people might not be familiar with. It's a great half day and I love taking people around. So definitely plan to visit this area of Airline Drive and have some fun.
