It has tables both inside and outside. The view is really beautiful on a nice day but be careful that if you take an outside table near the sea wall around high tide you could get splashed if the waves are bigger than normal. At low tide the algae covered rocks are exposed and produce a wonderful sea fragrance. This is situated right next to one of the "corrales de pesca" (fishing traps) which are basically stone walls with small chink holes for the water to pass through that protrude a way into the sea and have a height that is a bit lower than sea level at high tide. When the tide is high they fill with water at which point fish, squid, octopus, etc. get into them. When the tide goes down the animals are trapped and the locals catch what is there. At night you can see them with lanterns working their way though the rocks bagging the catch. These date from the days of the Romans. The restaurant specializes in seafood and what they offer is excellent. There is always fresh catch to select from: doradas, lubinas, corvinas, etc. A favorite of ours is pez moro which is a dark skinned rock fish that I have only ever encountered at Las Canteras. The meat is very white and delicate with a wonderful flavor. There is also a great selection of fried fish and other sea food such as acedias, pijotas, salmonetes, puntillitas, calamares, etc. If you want to try something different you might try the ortiguillas which are sea anemones. These are deep fried in batter which makes them very crunchy on the outside but very oyster-like on the inside but with a strong sea flavor. You will probably either love them or hate them. I love therm. My wife hates them. Another great dish they offer is tomates a la plancha (grilled tomatoes). Don't be fooled! This is not "just tomatoes". The tomatoes are sliced and grilled with olive oil and spices along with wild asparagus and oyster mushrooms. It is absolutely delicious and unexpectedly filling. The staff are very friendly as long as they are not too pressed with a very large number of customers. The place gets mobbed during the summer and they have a very hard time keeping up. We know a few of the waiters by name after having come here over the years and have very pleasant relationships with them. I highly recommend this restaurant.

It was a very doable walk from downtown Sanlucar as I didn't want to take a chance trying to find parking on narrow spanish streets. To be sure of my location when I was nearer to the spot where I thought it was, I asked a man on the street and he was very kind, even going to a bar across the street to be sure. The Bar Restaurante El Colorao is located in the same place it's been for decades though my new friends remembers a lot of wet smaller streets. Disappear for 40+ years and things change! Tables along the walls so we found a spot and sat. A few people at almost 2pm (spanish lunch hour) waiting for their take-out. Lots of bullfight posters, along with framed fotos of the place, and other views/scenes. TV over our heads in opposite corner had CanalSur on for the ongoing Semana Santa processions. We eventually ordered a variety plate that with whole fried squid, chocos, fish of various types, and fried whole shrimp. It was delicious and served quickly considering all the people here. We later ordered a salad served with tomatoes and boiled eggs, and a local type of tuna, along with great Sanlucar boiled shrimp which was also great. My friends drank a beer and manzanilla wine which I missed so much being in the states and it's difficult to find. As we ate, the place literally filled up. I would say there were close to 40 people in all sitting at tables or ordering take-out, and not even 30mins after we entered (what great timing!). All in all, a great experience and a great new place for me to return to when I'm back in the future! Bar Restaurante El Colorao is listed in some Sanlucar tourist maps. About a 20min slow walk from downtown but worth it if you love seafood like we do! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a bit of great food and not a touristy place to relax and eat. Saw a lot of gorgeous patios on our walk there and stopped often to admire and snap pixs. Based on living and eating out in San Francisco, I would say the total price would have been 3x what was paid in Sanlucar!
