What a happy find! Husband and I are in town visiting family for a few days and wanted to eat before arriving. We were in the mood for BBQ chicken and the place we intended to try just down East Morris had already closed their doors. We opted to try El Pollo and are leaving with happy full bellies and leftovers. He got the 1/2 marinated chicken and I got the ribs and chicken combo (with the sauce on the side). He had a yummy horchata and I drank tap water. We both LOVED the marinated meats and didn't even use the sauce on the side except to taste (it was good... just unneeded because the meat was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The ribs fell off the bone and the chicken was juicy even though the outside had a beautiful char on it. Each meal came with beans, rice, and 3 tortillas- all were excellent. There was also a fixing bar with shredded lettuce or cabbage, fresh Pico, guacamole, ranch, and other things I don't remember. In pretty sure this is our new favorite restaurant in Dalton. Oh, all this was only $25 (though we left a nice tip which the young waitress deserved)! read more

Remarkably good and local Mexican cuisine! A customer recommended stopping here for lunch and was it GOOD. The menu is a single page. 8 choices and that's it. All the grilling and smoking appears to be done out front. I went the with marinated chicken breast, served with beans, rice, and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. Just wonderful flavor on the chicken...so tasty. A condiment bar with all the essentials (fresh salsas, red onions, roasted peppers, limes, etc.) is there to round out the chicken. Went to Pollo Alegre to get some wings that a staff member from TK Wings recommended. I got Hot, Lemon Pepper, Habanero, and smoke BBQ. Our Air Bnb host strongly recommended this place and it met the definition of ok. It was quick and cheap which were two big pluses but the food was very average. We heard this place didn't use to have menus apparently but as it became more established it has a small menu with less than 10 items now. They also have a side bar with limes, cabbage, different salsas, gauc, and spicy peppers. We tried the dish they are known for which is their allegra chicken. I liked it but my wife thought it wasn't anything special and a bit dry. We got the corn tortillas which came out nice and warm and the standard rice and bean side. We also tried the quesadilla's which were good but very much what I would make at home or expect in a school cafeteria; a more Americanized cheesy version. The place was pretty quiet and servers were laid back. I'd come back but if visiting Dalton again maybe try some of the other authentic Mexican restaurants first. read more

They won't hand you a menu because there's nothing really to chose from. All they ask you is how much chicken you want. Your choice is a half or a whole. They ask you if you want beans and rice. If you say yes, they ask if you want refried beans or bean soup. They ask if you want flour or corn tortillas. My total after tax for a half chicken, retired beans and rice, flour tortillas and water was $8.95. A very good deal for a ton of food. I took full advantage of the salsa bar and took some of each, some cabbage and sliced onions and a ton of the pico. The pico was great. I used a ton of it and really enjoyed it. I'm not really a fan of chicken but this stuff was awesome. Ask for extra napkins. read more

Again, a legit Mexican spot in the Carpet Capital. Reminds you of El Pollo Loco but with hella better quality - meals themselves and the sides. The Mexican grilled chicken is legit with full smoke flavor. A bit too salty, hope they can adjust a bit to mellow it down. Located a few miles from Walnut Square Mall, sits a bright yellow and red building that BBQ grills and serves some of the best chicken. After parking in front of the building, there's also gravel parking across the street, one can smell the grilled chicken. Inside greets a bright lobby with a pay counter, a small desert case with an assortment of Mexican drinks and deserts, and the entryway to either (clean) restrooms or dining. I share the half chicken meal with my young son and it's plenty. They have horchata, cinnamon flavored rice milk water, that is really good and helps calm the spicy flavors of the mouth. The chicken comes with soup beans or refried beans and rice with choice of flour or corn tortillas. The soup beans are seasoned white beans. There is a salad bar at the front of the dining room that has multiple items, such as cabbage, lettuce, limes, peppers, and sauces like salsa and chipotle. Very good, priced well, and worth it. When I get it to go, I usually ask for extra cabbage. read more

I went here with two co-workers who are regulars. Dalton is the cottage industry capital (in my opinion) so this restaurant is located in a 1960s (ish) house-fully modified, yet still somehow haunted by the ghost of shag carpeting. But I digress. If there is a menu, I never saw it. Everyone else knew what they wanted, so I followed along. You can get chicken...or chicken. And trust me, you want the chicken! After the first bite, that first taste, I tore into that chicken with feral glee. There were sides (beans), tortillas (corn), and a tiny cold bar with clumsily chopped lettuce and onions and magical sauces. All I needed was the chicken and some sauce. Yum! Their condiment bar is great....plenty of sauces and peppers, onions, etc. Get extra napkins, because you gotta "make your meal" with all the stuff they bring you. I went on 3/10/2017 for lunch. I can tell you one thing I felt discriminated for being a hispanic construction worker. The waitress literally ignored us and only catered to non hispanic people, when she finally decided to check on us we were definitely not treated like everyone else. The food took so long to come out so I had to leave without eating. I will not be coming back to this place. this was a great find! My Son and I are always up for eating off the beaten path, and after reading the reviews we knew we had to give it a try. We parked at the Front door, and when we walked in there was only 1 table left. The waitress was kind and she asked us what we wanted to order, which threw us off since reviews said they only had one thing. We each ordered 1/2 chicken with corn tortillas and waters. the food came right out, and we went to the topping bar for our topping, which is a dream for me. The Chicken was amazing!!! My father raved about this place months ago. I generally don't like chicken, so I refused to drive to Dalton to eat somewhere I probably wouldn't like. Now that I HAVE to be in Dalton, I finally tried the happy chicken. I liked it, even though I had to park across the street in an abandoned gravel lot and worried the whole time I was eating that my car would be towed. You have two options at this restaurant: half a chicken or a whole chicken. There is a small bar with salsa, cabbage, onions, and other garnishes available, and you can order rice and beans (refried or black). I basically made tacos with mine. It was messy, but I devoured my food as I sucked down my mango juice. Luckily, my car was still there when I left the restaurant. read more

My brother turned me on to this place a while back. They only serve chicken with a choice of rice and beans, but it is excellent. It's also very cheap at around 8 dollars for a half chicken with the two sides. The outside of the restaurant doesn't look like much and it isn't in the best part of town, but the inside is nicely decorated and the staff is friendly. read more

We've gone here a couple of times the last couple of weeks. It is FANTASTIC. The chicken is amazing. Service is really fast. The beans and rice are good. Tortillas are warm and they have a salsa bar that has a few different kinds of salsa, including some with some actual kick. I'll keep going back...best chicken ever. read more
