I had Cancun shrimp salad. My spinach bed was topped with a dozen of good size grilled shrimp and mango. I uses green salsa as a dressing. I love Mexican food, and my wife & I travel all around the country looking for what we can find. We happened through Russellville & didn't expect too much, but what we got was a joke. We ordered a dinner special for 2 which was burritos, enchiladas, & tacos. We wanted "steak" for our meat, instead of the ground beef the waiter practically insisted on, but got ground beef anyway on one of the tacos. There was no pico or anything else with any color. Just some tough meat with brown colored "red" sauce poured over everything. We looked at each other & laughed when the waiter put our plates on the table. You've never seen such an un-appetizing excuse for food! The biggest joke was the "cheese nachos". They put some tortilla chips out of a bag on a plate, & poured Queso on top. Nothing else. Never seen anything like it. I wouldn't serve a plate that looked like that to my biggest enemy! read more

Place is very cozy. Smaller atmosphere but plenty of room between tables. Very Tex-Mex styling inside. All Hispanic workers who speak English, which is good for me. Quick seating and complimentary chips and salsa at my table before I could even open the menu. Salsa has a little different taste to it and is pretty runny but has a good kick to it. Chips are bomb! Warm and aren't the flimsy type that break. I ordered to Yolanda's, 3 chicken enchiladas with white cheese sauce, lettuce, tomato, and quac (not a quac fan) and served with a side of rice. All for $6.99. Pretty good deal. Wish there was more cheese sauce but the enchiladas were perfect. Chicken was not dry either. Rice was very good also. No complaints with the restaurant, service was very fast and friendly, and the waitress doesn't bother you ever 5 minutes like some other restaurants. read more

El Patron is a solid little dime a dozen Mexican joint. I would trade all but one of my local quick service Mexican joints for this one. It is located in the multi-tenant strip mall next to the Walmart super center. I was greeted warmly upon entering. I was seated immediately. This place has a huge menu with tons of traditional, Tex-mex and quite unique options such as chorizo topped chicken and steak dishes.I went with the chicken taco salad which is what I went in for. I was momentarily tempted by a number of options. One thing I did particularly like about the menu was a make your own combo section. Often enough I can make due with one of the combo plates if that's what I'm looking for. This place offers a pick your own 2-3 item combo plate. I like the option of being able to choose, even if I didn't elect to today. My food was brought out to me less than a minute after I ordered. I barely finished saying chicken taco salad before he brought it to my table. It wasn't pre-made bc the shell would have been soggy. It was surprisingly fast how quickly I received my meal. For 4.99 I got a very good quality taco salad with chicken, beans cheese dip, cheese lettuce tomato sour cream and guacamole. I didn't expect the cheese dip but it was really good in the salad. I tried to be on the healthier side but didn't turn out so well. This was a hi calorie salad. The chicken was very good. The chicken was tender and flavorful. I added some salsa to my salad and mixed it all up and I quite enjoyed it. The chips and salsa were standard. Yellow corn vs white. Service was good initially, but apparently there was shift change during my lunch and my server disappears and so no one ever came to bring my check. Wasn't a huge deal but, I was getting to the point of walking around in search of someone to give me a ticket. Once I got my check a server checked me out and tried to over charge me for my meal. I pointed out the amount she rang up me did not match the menu price. She changed it to the proper amount immediately, but it made me question whether or not that was a standard practice. It seemed like a you busted me situation vs a legitimate mistake. I was not a fan of that. I can't prove it and it's definitely not a certainty. I would; however recommend knowing what your expected tab will be at check out as opposed to paying what you're told. read more

A friend visited us and we didn't want to drive into Florence to eat at Rosie's... so we decided to try a place in town... As soon as we walked in, we were taken to a table by a host. The decor was full of Mexican culture. Lighting wasn't too intimate. It wasn't overly loud, however you could hear the tables around you if you turned on your radar. I would recommend some queso to eat with the chips. The salsa was a little too watery and didn't have any spice to it. The menu was overly large... menu items just differ by a vegetable and have a whole name for it. I settled with a Steak Mexicano. The portion was perfect. I was not offered an option on how well done I wanted it cooked but it was well and it was good. I had a Corona Extra to go with my dinner. They served it draft instead of a bottle. BTW there is no bottle recycling in Alabama. You pay up front... I wish we had more attention from our waitress, but I felt the service was ok. I would definitely bring another visitor here. The salsa was pretty decent but it wasn't the best I've ever tasted. The food was good and portions were average size. The refried beans that came with my order were very tasty and I think right up there at the top with any I have had anywhere. This is definitely a place to try if you like Tex-Mex and are in Russellville. read more
