This review is based on their open skate hours for the public. The pandemic has been going on since mid March. It is June now and El Hockey Association has not taken their time to update their website to state they are closed to the public. I was planning to go skate so I googled them, according to google and their website they are open from 0900-2100 hours, but it has no information in regards to if that whole time is open to the public. I called, thankfully Someone did answer. The female costumer service representative had the worst way to communicate.. I asked if from 9am-10pm was always open to the public. She said no. I asked from what time to what time, she said no we are not open. I said ... Your website says you are, so.. the. She replied "no ice" I said ohh okay then you got no ice at all.. I asked, will you update your website when you are actually open? She said yeah.. and hanged up.. It is what it is. read more

Most people come here to watch ice hockey. Me? I just come here to skate. Or....at least I did. Back when I was young and viral and my knees didn't sporadically ache or feel like crutches over Jello. But then...we all can't be young whipper-snappers forever. Here's the thing. It seems this arena (which I've been going to on and off for the last decade or so) has refurbished their layout. At least, in the front anyway. You can imagine my amazement when I walked up to the building only to discover that the exit and entrance were flip-flopped. But that was only the beginning of the shocking changes. Upon walking inside, it quickly became apparent why the entrance was moved. Turns out, they streamlined the check-in desk position to better accommodate their ostensibly long lines due to their newfound popularity for public skating. A phenomena which is possibly due to the fact that they also evidently amended their hours. You see, when I originally came here oh so many years ago, the public skating hours were something like 3 hour blocks mainly on Fridays and weekends (unless there was a game scheduled or something). Now, they have like two 5 hour blocks damn near everyday. Which is pretty impressive, considering they usually have to resurface the rink after not even 3 hours of people shredding up the ice worse than a 10 year old getting a skinned knee after a bicycle crash. But, I digress. At any rate, the internal layout is cleaner...now that the place you buy tickets, snacks and drinks is completely separate from where you pick up your rental skates. You have to realize I've lived here so long that I remember when all that stuff was compressed into the same area. In short, this place has grown considerably. The thing I don't understand is how all these previous reviews seem to bash the arena for being "too small" (whatever that means) or the location being "depressed". I suppose it depends on where you were raised or did a majority of your skating though. So, I'll give the benefit of the doubt to myopic upbringing. Point is, you have to put things in perspective. Think about it this way: we live in a desert that's less than 10 miles from Mexico; a city where ice hockey probably isn't nearly as popular as, say...Tex-Mex, steak or football. Yet, I'm from New England and can still appreciate the fact that at least THIS ice arena has a private parking lot I don't have to pay for AND is pretty easy to get to compared to the likes of...say...the rink in downtown EP. Anyways...it's not perfect. But it's sufficient enough for the area. Only real complaint I have is not necessarily the staff's fault. And that would be the incessantly huge crowds of people on the ice rink. Like, by the time I hit the ice, I was basically forced to skate at a slow crawl. Not that it matters anyway because after not having skated in over 4 years, a guy gets pretty rusty. I was mostly concentrating just hard enough not to fall flat on my ass. Oh, yeah. The parking lot has a severe lighting problem. Or should I say...a LACK of lighting, period? Anyway, it's a serious safety issue. So, I caution you all to tread carefully when approaching the building from your cars. EP Rhinos Arena is easily worth 4 old guys strappin' up them ice skates one more time out of 5. Pretty decent place to go ice skating. I highly recommend it. read more

We got to go on Sunday and surprisingly it was a sell out day! We had been given two free tickets and decided to check this place out! We had never been to a hockey game so we were both excited! We picked up our tickets at the ticket stand and the employee was very friendly. We got there about an hour before the game started so people were slowly trickling in. We found our seats quick and there are plenty of employees standing around for any questions. Our seats were at the end in the awkward corner (hard to see the rink from that corner) so we decided to just stand at the bar. Standing at the bar was nice and so much better then sitting at the bleacher seats. We literally were a few inches away from the rink. The game was quite exciting and on this day the rhinos beat Dallas! (3 to 1) There is plenty of entertainment during the breaks so it's not boring! They do have a concession stand and a souvenir stand! We parked along the street so it was free. It is $5 parking if you want to park in front of the arena entrance. The venue is quite small and it does get cold! Free pictures with the rhino mascot! We definitely had fun and enjoyed ourselves! We would be back! read more

I have now been to the El Paso Rhinos arena several times. It has always been a great experience, the people working there are all very nice! Especially the manager Shandy. Shandy has always gone above and beyond. Not too many people out there that take the extra steps to be helpful anymore. read more

You can definitiely tell that this rink is the same place that anyone can come and skate. It is ridiculously small for a minor league team to be competing in. Not that Im picky or expect only the biggest, baddest stadiums but it was just really surprisingly small for official team sporting events. At least the tickets can be as cheap as 5$ which justify the setting. Plus you can easily stand closer to the rink where they got counters by this bar at one end of the rink. So my husband and I spent half the game hanging out there since the seats we had under section R were awkwardly off to the far side away from the rink. That side of the rink had sections that spelled RHINO. We're not sure exactly how the ticket prices were since he got it thru his job for free, but it seems the seats under R and O would be the cheapest since they're the most furthest away. Typical stadium food and prices are reasonable for the most part, except for the hotdogs and "churros". For 4$ churros, i thought i was getting more than 1 footlong churro. Nope. And it wasnt freshly made cinnamon sugar ones neither. It was ONE oddly dry, strawberry jam filled churro. Really sad. It tasted like a weird pop tart. Their Rudys brisket nachos looked like the best thing to get. Beer and water is kinda pricey. The whole night was pretty entertaining and each 20min period takes almost a good 40mins. Always funny to see a fight go down and angry fans/oponent bash talking. Worth paying 5$ for a good night of entertainment! I would just eat dinner somewhere else before it starts. read more

Having previously lived in a city with a NHL team - and a good one - I have been fortunate to have attended many professional games. I really do enjoy watching hockey so with the El Paso Rhinos playing at home one weekend, we decided to go check it out. All of their information is easily accessible on their website (ticket prices, promotions, parking, etc) in a professional layout. Whoever manages their website does a fantastic job. Yes, the Rhinos are junior league but don't let that steer you away. These guys are excellent players and a lot of fun to watch. The game action is lively, music is upbeat, witty announcer, and the crowd is loud. The Rhino mascot is fun! He came around to snap a few pictures with us. There is a lot of entertainment between quarters too. The organization of the event is spot on and includes everything you would find at a NHL game. It exceeded my expectations, especially as a junior league game. Tickets are inexpensive ranging from $5 to $20 and military receive free general admission with ID! The facility is basically a warehouse (it sort of reminded me of a livestock arena). You may be taken aback by the bleacher-style seating inside but there really isn't a bad seat in the house. If you do not mind standing, there are sections for you to actually stand and watch the game within arm's length from the glass, up close and personal! The concessions consist of the usual suspects - hot dogs, popcorn, beer, etc. (Two 16 oz beers were just under $10.) Prices may be slightly inflated but not ridiculously w-t-f over-priced. Plus, the proceeds from concessions go towards a fund for hockey scholarships so it is kind of a win, win. Parking is $5 or you can park on the street for free, which gets filled quickly. It wasn't too much of a pain leaving and we stayed for the entire game. In general, I was not a huge fan of the location and the facility is kind of oldish but hey, for the great atmosphere and prices it isn't that big of deal. There is also a patio/bar section to hang out at before and after the game. I overheard someone say you can ice skate afterwards too but I have no idea if that is true. If you like hockey or are looking for a fun day out, I recommend coming out and supporting the El Paso Rhinos! read more

I am a huge fan of ice hockey, so I am a bit biased. This team is the real deal though, you will get to see some good hockey if you give them a chance. These boys are a blue collar team, which is way better than prep, and they will play hard, and fight even harder. The organization puts on an entertaining show between the periods and they have this dune buggy that does donuts on the ice while shooting t-shirts into the crowd. My kids love going to the games and screaming "Lets go Rhinos!!!". The tickets are fairly priced, but I suggest upgrading to anything better than General Admission. read more

I loved going to the hockey game! it was my first time ever going & I enjoyed it.. my husband is military so we got In for free & we were "general admission " so there was only 2 stands which fit about 30-35 people.. & they were both filled up.. a little boy threw up so that cleared about 10 people off & nobody came to clean it up.. there was about 50 people standing up to watch the game.. if we would've known, we definitely would've paid extra to actually get a seat. read more
