Flamenco is a Spanish style of dance that originated in Southern Spain: Andalusia, Extremadura and Murcia. Since Andalusia is one of those regions, Seville is an ideal city to experience a Flamenco show. The dance has a distinct movements. It also includes a form of tap dancing and incorporates clapping. It is certainly a cultural experience. It is also a touristy thing to do but I was a tourist. It was an enjoyable experience one time but I am not sure I would need to do it twice. We attended a Flamenco Show at El Palacio Andaluz. Guests can buy a ticket for the show only. We bought tickets that included a 3 course dinner and alcohol for 85 Euros. The food was solid. The dish that stood out was the oxtail steak. It was chewy and very good. There are two shows each night. They last a little under 90 minutes. Watching a flamenco show is a MUST when visiting Seville. We booked a dinner and show at the Palacio Andaluz and were lucky enough to enjoy an almost exclusive show since it was only us and another couple that were there for the night. The stage was bigger than other places that host Flamenco shows and the dancers were spectacular and very passionate as they sashayed across the stage to the rhythmic melody of the guitars. While watching the show, we enjoyed our tapas dinner that consisted of a seafood cocktail, spanish omelette, prawn croquettes, jamon slices, olives, cod confit and pork cheek stew plus a bottle of red vino. Good food + a great show = a wonderful way to end a night in Seville! read more

As part of my South of Spain Tour, we had a choice to go check out a traditional Flamenco show as an optional activity and so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity (hey, when in Spain and all that...!) and this theater is where we ended up at. Its a very pretty theater with a lot of in-your-face red fabric decorations and lovely murals on the wall. Seating is very cosy and you will get to know your neighbours quite well. There is apparently a meal option too, but that wasn't apparently on option we had booked, because all we got was a drink, which took super long to come, and which for some members of my party, didn't come at all and at least one other person in our tour group got the wrong drink - so fail there. Overall however, it was a pretty decent show and very traditional - they did a short 20 min version of Carmen which was my favourite. The skill of the dancers was tremendous and it was a lot more robust and masculine dancing that I had expected from watching Flamenco previously on TV - that element of bravura comes thru really clearly in a live show, and is missing from watching via other mediums. As an event and travel planner for groups from all over the world, this was not a show I'd recommend. Ive seen flamenco in Buenos Aires & Madrid on various occasions. This place is a tourist attraction. There are no locals at this venue as a guest. The seating is tight, but that's expected in a flamenco performance. The performance itself was 4/5. The food was 1/5. I don't come to the shows for the food, but this place is large...about 500+ seated guests. The shows I attended at other great hidden spots in Spain and Argentina are intimate...30-50 guests with a stage that's the size of a bedroom. This show needs some work as well as a more intimate setting and the food needs a new chef. The venue is a typical crescent style theater with two levels with 99% of the seating on the first level. So if you're going to second level, go ahead and get a refund. Service is slow. This was a big disappointment for being in the birthplace of Sevilla. I expected 1000% better! I'm going to find a better place and post a review worth visiting for somewhere else. There are dozens of spots in this city for intimate and sexy flamenco. I'm sad some if my friends had to see this and think this is what flamenco is. I don't hate this place, but the food and serrvice and theater killed it. The talent was good to great...but this isn't the venue for them. read more

A fantastic show with unbelievably skilled and passionate dancers and musicians. We also had the dinner which was very good and accompanied with wine and sangria. It was a full house on a Monday night. I would highly recommend the dinner and show. It exceeded my expectations. read more

This is the first time I watched a Flamenco performance. There were a lot of people seated that night, four people to a small half table and we were sitting at the back. Also, the whole show was full! We had options for the main, which were pork, chicken or salmon. For dessert, we had a fig salad and dessert was a cake type of food with whipped cream. All the food was average, nothing too special. Guess the pork cheek was pretty unique. The show was actually pretty depressing because the storyline was sad. There was tapping of the feet, slapping of the body, a raspy voice and a guitar in the beginning of the show. The dances were really awesome, but I'm not sure I know how to admire Flamenco dances unfortnately, so it wasn't something I really enjoyed. You should come if you like this stuff!! read more

everyone who'd ever been to spain and/or sevilla told us that we had to take in a flamenco show in sevilla. although they offer these shows in all of the major cities, sevilla had the best, and is well-known for their entertaining dancers. upon checking in at our hotel, the concierge gave us a few options for evening shows, and we chose the most basic ticket which was €25/person, with a late seating at 2100. this ticket did not include any food or drinks, and seats were further away from the stage, but we didn't mind since we planned to eat dinner beforehand and were going just for the show. our concierge also told us that the show was roughly 45 minutes. we arrived at the venue a few minutes early, and were ushered to our seats. we both used the restrooms on the main floor before heading to the second level where our seats were. not bad, felt like balcony seating at an opera or theatre house! hubby ordered a sangria and i just had some water. being a lover of dance and music, i really enjoyed this show. each act had a different style of flamenco, so it appeared, and there were some acts which showcased a soloist on spanish guitar, which i really enjoyed. i felt this was a bonus, since i was only expecting dancing for the duration of the show. speaking of which, the show lasted about 1 1/2 hours, which was double the length of what we were told. it was a bit long for my husband, since he started dozing off partway through, but i thoroughly enjoyed myself and stayed awake for the entirety of the show. note that you purchase more expensive tickets with options of a drink, drink & full dinner, and/or better seating on the main floor, close to the stage. read more

Came to Spain for a month sabbatical and found this place on second night here. Really enjoyed it! The tapas dinner was delicious with plates of ham and cheese, beef stew and fish. The big pitcher of sangria wasn't very potent but that's ok with me. The music and dance -- the reason for coming -- was infectious. Sorry but this place was as far removed as what you should expect from a flamenco show as you can get. Part of this is the auditorium: it is extremely large and as such can accommodate a ton of people. As such, tourists arrive by the bus-load and there can be up to 6 or 7 buses worth of tourists in there. Noisy, rude tourists who will stand up in the middle of the most emotional part of a show to go to the bathroom. On top of that, the stage is very small, and there are columns EVERYWHERE hindering your view. The show itself had some excellent dancers, but for the most part, was very average and included little parts with recorded music which was just terrible IMO. If you want something a little cozier, and a little less touristy, I would go to Museo del Flamenco (with the caveat that tickets sell out early). I have also heard good things of tablao Arenal, but cannot comment on that either. Lastly, the location is out of the way, and the drinks are expensive. I would avoid and felt somewhat cheated, especially since this show is also slightly more expensive than others I saw. read more
