There were two one hour offerings--5pm and 7pm. I chose the former as I was hoping to enjoy one last evening walk around the city. The music was rhythmic, the dancing was entrancing, and the dance attire was beautiful. The performance space is quite intimate (roughly 75 seats on 3 sides of the stage), and drinks are available for purchase prior to the performance. There was no audience participation component--thank goodness. Check out the gift shop on your way out; there are a number of good finds here.

There are so many places in Seville that offer Flamenco demonstrations that it was hard to know which one to choose. After extensive research, I choose the Museo del Baile Flamenco. It has an interesting mix of contemporary exhibits as well as older architecture, and a fantastic tomb room. The grounds are a converted monastery. Overall, this area of Triana is great to get away from the Tapas, crowds, and other typical things. Also, Expo 92 (riverside grounds are across the street adjacent to CAAC) is a hidden fantastic, expansive park next by the river that is essentially abandoned. There is a walk/bike trail along the river which goes for at least 3km. It has been one of our favorite locations yet in Seville as well as very disheartening because it is so beautiful and underutilized, especially for the benefit of locals, who I think can use more affordable housing and park options.

Hospital de los Venerables is a 17th century building that was once a home for priests (like…read moreHospital de Caridad, it has a stunning late 17th century church and a beautiful interior courtyard; indeed, if you have been to Caridad, you'll notice how much Venerables looks the same, down to the nearly identical ceilings). There are two spaces that make this worth a visit - the first is the church which has stunning paintings by Valdes Leal, Lucas Valdes, and Martinez Montanes. The second is the small gallery on the first floor which has paintings by Zurbaran, Murillo, and Velasquez. The audio guide (which is included in the price of admission) is particularly good, almost overwhelmingly so (it provides a good 4-6 minutes of commentary about each of the twelve or so paintings in the Hospital's tiny gallery).

Good place to escape the summer heat for a bit and learn some history about the impressive foundations of the city of Seville. The ruins range from as early as the 1st century AD and are in varying states of recovery and restoration. The mosaic pieces are quite beautiful. There's a separate exhibition behind glass doors which seems to be under renovation that we weren't able to access, and there were some areas where water was seeping from the roof into buckets. True, this place could use a little more TLC but it's a quiet refuge from the city!

(3.5 stars). How…read moremany times we have tried to go to this museum, only to find ourselves sitting in the park instead. The park, it turns out, is hard to give up. So if you're headed to the Museum, budget some time to sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the park. If I were in Sevilla for 2-3 days, I'm not sure this museum would make the cut, but if you are here for longer, it's certainly worth a visit (especially since it's only 1,5E per person). What's here is absolutely lovely -- and definitely don't miss the Diana statute on the first floor (I think it's sala 24 or 25). I will say, museum fatigue sets in earlier here than in other museums because so much of what's here is similar (e.g. a gallery filled with sculpted torsos, a number of very gorgeous, and very similar looking, mosaics) and because many of the truly informative placards offering historical detail are not translated. But stick with it - there is a lot of great beauty here.

There's no excuse not to visit given that the museum is free on Monday's! So if you're in town…read morethen, pay it a visit and enjoy some views of Triana across the bridge and the river. Just down the street is a recreation of a ship that supposedly completed the first trip around the world so going the extra mile coming down to this neighborhood is definitely worth the trip to experience a different side of Seville. It's a naval museum overall which is something you won't see in the other Sevillan museums.

I have sat on this review in my head for a long time as I've a fondness for horses and was shocked…read moreat my reaction while here watching the show. Yes, this is a place of fetishes - weird dress code, funky hats, royals self importance abounding, and indeed the most exquisite horses. The issue I had is that it was nearly like going to a circus in that the horses were so trained they no longer had the spirit I know a horse to have, sadness truly overthrew me often in the 60-90 min experience. The grounds are amazing, tourist mobs unpalatable and if you've fear of your buses this is NOT the place for you! I looked through it in hopes if see beauty and grace but instead I saw gross volumes of people in awe of a horse being whipped so they can stand on two legs and jump like a jack rabbit... I wish I could say 5 star or even 4 star but really I put this with bullfighting- should be stopped as it simply is inhumane!
