This was our second flamenco show in Sevilla and we were blown away by Alvarez Quintero. As everyone mentions, it is a tiny space, and the room is not stadium seating, so if seeing everything is important to you, you will want to show up when the doors open to claim a good seat. One other caveat - the seating is simple folding chairs, nothing fancy and nothing particularly comfortable. If you're not in the front row, it might feel a bit like flying on a transatlantic flight in economy seats, but, fear not! The show is only an hour.
And anyway, you won't be thinking about seating once the show starts. By all accounts, the show changes every evening, but every night features a singer, a guitarist, and a dancer (which is about all that you can fit on the tiny Alvarez Quintero stage). And what we saw last night was breathtaking (and, as I mentioned, better than what we had seen before) -- the vocalist had an incredible range, the dancer was so intense, so passionate, and she did something I had never seen before. During the second number, she changed into a grey/blue dress that had a long fish tail, and so the dress, and its tail, literally became part of the dance, almost a prop that she used in different ways throughout the number. read more
