Tacos de adobada.
Ale M.

I absolutely loved this taco spot! Our tour guides recommended this place and we are so grateful they did. I got adobada tacos and the pepino lime water. It gets super packed but people are pretty good about eating quick so we didn't wait long. They also bring the food out super quick. The owners are carniceros so you know you get the best meat. You won't regret it if you go.

I went with my partner who is one of the most picking eaters one will ever encounter. That said, the owner, Michael moved here from Canada around 8 years ago, was incredibly attentive to his request, and got it just right. This along with the marvelous and unique plates I ordered we had a perfect experience. The attention he puts into the menu and presentation will hopefully guarantee that Los Compos will be here for many years to come- pandemic be damaged! So, next time you are in Historic Guanajuato- treat yourself. I had the MAR Y TIERRA, CALAMARI FRITO CON TUETANO Fried calamari and bone marrow with cascabel chile mayonaise and the TEMPURA NOPAL CON PICO DE GALLO Tempura nopal cactus with pico de gallo and chicatana mayonaise- Seriously worth the flight!

Normally, this would cause a red flag but perhaps it was early or an off night. Los Campos is located on the south-eastern side of Centro Historico district and is an easy walk from Jardin de la Union. What drew us to Los Campos was the referenced diversity of their menu. My companion eats chicken and fish, while I am a vegan and plant-based. Their menu has multiple vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. While the flavors were pretty good, it was the plate presentation that was exceptional and we both felt that Los Campos was a little too pretentious for us. I was limited to order the Chaminones con Mezcal. Mushrooms flambeed in Mezcal with orange zest and dried chile. My wife, although not excited to try, did have the Burrito de Cerdo Ahumado en Salsa Colorado. It wasn't that Los Campos was too fancy, it was more like we, as diners, were more comfortable in other settings. We would suspect that diners from the United States or from Europe would fall in love with the avant-garde interiors and plate presentations. From all accounts, that all seems to be true, it's just our style. Our food was good and was plated expertly and I don't have any issues recommending Los Campos for a romantic dinner out for a couple.

We were fortunate enough to get a window table with a perfect view of the iconic Teatro Juárez. What a treat! The moment I tasted their tortilla soup, I was transported back in time. I first tried it twenty-five years ago, and with the very first spoonful, memories flooded back. It is still just as rich, comforting, and absolutely worth trying. Our party of three ordered the Menú del Día for only 300 pesos, which included an entrée, a first and second course, and a choice of coffee or dessert. Oh my goodness--the quality was outstanding. From the careful presentation of every dish, to the exceptional flavor, spotless restrooms, gracious staff, and unbeatable location, Casa Valadez easily earns five stars from me. If you're visiting Guanajuato, this restaurant is a must. Bonus: Their wine selection is surprisingly extensive!

Needless to say the experience was incredible and the food was delicious. Casa Valadez in Guanajuato is a well-known restaurant, not a historical building with a documented history. It's known for its excellent Mexican cuisine and is a popular dining spot in the city's historic center, particularly near the Jardin de la Union. While the restaurant doesn't have a long, documented history like some of the city's landmarks, it's a place where visitors can experience local culinary traditions in a vibrant, historic setting. Here's a bit more about Casa Valadez and its context within Guanajuato: Restaurant is not a historical site: It's important to clarify that Casa Valadez is a restaurant, not a historic house or building with a known history of its own, according to Evendo and Elyse Jessica Glickman. Culinary Destination: Casa Valadez is celebrated for its Mexican cuisine, offering both traditional dishes and modern interpretations with a focus on local ingredients. Location in the Historic Center: . The restaurant is situated in the heart of Guanajuato, near the Jardin de la Union, a central plaza, and is surrounded by the city's historic architecture. Not a Historical Landmark: . While Guanajuato itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a rich history, particularly related to silver mining, Casa Valadez is a contemporary establishment within the historic area. I highly recommend so you can thank me later :)

We had an absolutely amazing meal here on our last night in Guanajuato…read more We spotted it after visiting the Diego Rivera Museum and then remembered it a couple days later when looking for a nice spot to have dinner on Dia de los Muertos. However it took us a very long time to get from our apartment to the restaurant because there were so many interesting events happening around the city, that we stopped to watch several of them. We didn't arrive to the restaurant until 8:30PM (Sunday night). The host informed us they closed at 8PM but he would ask the kitchen if they would still serve us. Not wanting to put them out, we declined his generous offer, thanked him, and crossed the street in search of another restaurant. A minute later, the host ran out of the restaurant and across the street to us and said they had a table for us and the kitchen would be happy to serve us. We thanked him profusely and followed him inside the restaurant. The decor is lovely and modern and of course proudly showcasing several photos and paintings of Frida and Diego. We immediately noticed the clientele was just a little bit different than what we'd seen at other restaurants in the city. Meaning, everyone else was speaking English (not the staff, but the other patrons). We quickly observed that the other customers were most likely ex-pats, being that the menu was a bit pricier than other restaurants in the area (but still not expensive by any means). Our host informed us that they'd actually been busier that evening than during Cervantino, which meant they were out of a lot of food. A woman, who I believe was the owner/chef, came over and listed off what they still had available, which was only about 20% of the menu. Wow! This place is popular so make sure you get here early! My husband asked if they had any paella left and she said she only had a small amount left and that we could have it free of charge since it wasn't enough for a serving. It made an absolutely wonderful appetizer though. I've never had paella before, but if it all tastes as good as what she brought out, I'm a huge fan of it now! Absolutely amazing. We're still talking about that paella. Another item we can't stop talking about is the tapenade they serve. It was the best thing I've ever put on bread. Period. Every time I took a bite, I had to make a "MMMMM!" sound. We couldn't figure out how they get just the right amount of spice in there, but it's perfect. Just enough for give you little bit of spice without burning your mouth. The spice heats up your mouth for an instant, and then immediately dissipates so you can enjoy the rest of your food. Amazing. We both settled on the beef filets, one made with a red salsa and the other with a black. These pieces of steak were H U G E and delicious. I'm not a big meat eater, so I could only handle about half of one before tapping out, but the meat was so tender and flavorful, it was unreal. This restaurant is just a delight. The service was friendly and beyond amazing, and the food was out of this world. We will definitely make this part of our rotation for our upcoming trips to GTO. Next time we'll arrive on time, though.

Maybe I came on a really, really, REAAALLY off afternoon cause how this place has a perfect rating is dumbfounded. We waited over an hour for very simple dishes (nachos, guacamole, papas fritas, and sopas de pollo) that require teeny weeny bit of cooking. I know "simple" is subjective, but you agree....RIGHT?! All fine and dandy if the food came out banging delicious, BUT it did not!! The sopas de pollo was inedible. I hadn't eaten all day and came from a 3 hour hike, and I still did not eat this soup (starvation won over bland, tasteless, lukewarm soup). The best thing was the papas fritas, and it was mediocre at best. The service was not only terribly slow, but inattentive. We all finished our lemonade within 20 minutes and sat around with empty glasses for the rest of the meal. Don't worry, we are not horrible human beings and still tipped the server for his efforts, but gee golly you are so bad at your job dude!
