Pulpo panka (180 pesos) very tender
    Joe P.

We wanted to cleanse our palates from the $hitty meal at Mi Pueblo the night before, so we hit El Oasis that was recommended by our driver. EO specializes in mariscos, and is frequented primarily by locals. We started w/ the calamares fritos (110 pesos @ 17.75 exch rate), and ceviche de camarones y pulpo (120). First of all, the calamares were OK. I thought they were a bit too uniform for the eye: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the seafood in the ceviche was super fresh, and it was topped w/ guac like it should be: 4 Stars. For our entrees, I had the pulpo panka (180 | braised octopus), while my rellies had paella (160), filete relleno (175), and steamed filete (180 | the latter 3 not pictured). My rellies all liked their entrees, esp the one who ordered the paella. I had a bite and the shrimp were big and fresh: 4 Stars. Likewise, when my pulpo finally arrived, it was tender and went well w/ the tortillas: 4 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its aire libre (open air) and they have good music playing in the background. In addition, there are a lot of whimsical nuances inc a white shark in front that you can take pics with: 4 Stars. In contrast, the service was a bit mixed. The waiter was a nice guy, but when I asked him for English menus for my rellies, they did not arrive. I had to ask the hostess. Additionally, my ceviche came w/ the other entrees, and my entree came much later. Thirdly, the waiter offered bread & tortillas, but they arrived after my rellies had been eating their entrees a while. Lastly, I asked the hostess to call a taxi. However, it wasn't until the Mgr, Roger asked me if we needed a taxi did I notice a sense of urgency: 5 Stars for Roger, 3 Stars for the waiter, and 2 Stars for the hostess and kitchen. Despite the mixed service, I would return in a heartbeat. The food is very good, and its outside the touristy area so locals come here. When traveling, its always best to go where the locals go.

Truly well done .. this must be my 7th visit here .. today i had the Boquinete the whole fish in al mojo de ajo and i asked for some ajillo sauce on the side .. eveything came in perfect texture and taste .. served with a dish of vegetables and rice .. the sauces were exquisite .. the fish cooked "a la plancha" and to perfection.. I was pleasantly surprised as I have been ordering the sea food Ceviches and other less sophisticated dishes during my previous visits .. Also, I have been noticing service has come a long way here .. the last 3 times waiters went out of their way to make sure all is fine at my table .. Excellent value for money . i recommend

The service was great and the food was delicious! Highly recommend the coconut shrimp. Wouldn't recommend the marlin.

You Must Come Here! We just found it by Yelp. Only locals.. but very inviting and the people are simply the absolute BEST. Roger was so helpful and welcoming. The food was so fresh it was almost still swimming. They start you with seafood broth. It is free and piping Hot. It was the best thing I have Ever Tasted! I had to have a whole bowl of it. But that was a bad Idea because I couldn't finish my Grilled Octopus/ Pulpo. The Pulpo was too Die for. You can get it with different sauces. There are too many to list. But I wanted to taste it. It was delicious. My husdand had the Grilled Grouper it was moist and the grilled veggies were amazing. They served it with mashed potatoes and those I could have eaten 4 lbs. My friend had the Coconut Shrimp and there was about 8 or more served in a Coconut half. This place just has all the seafood you could want. If we had time we would all go back. Wish we had found it earlier. Please people go here. You can't go wrong.

Stuffed Crab (top) and Caribbean Fish Fillet (bottom, so soft and moist)

After reading the favorable reviews on Yelp, I visited El Oasis with a big group of friends during our stay in Playa del Carmen. The food and service were both phenomenal. We loved the interior AND the exterior of the restaurant, which has very cute, authentic vibe. Caribbean Fish Fillet dish was one of the best dishes I've had during our trip. Also the drinks and entrees are very affordable compared to other options on the bustling main street. Highly recommend.

For my entrée, I had the skirt steak, and it was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The sweet potato with honey and cinnamon was absolutely delicious. My only real complaint is the portion sizes on a couple of items. The salad was very small, and I would have loved a more generous serving. I also ordered an amaretto sour. It was a little weak at first, so I asked for more amaretto, which made it better, but it still wasn't quite as strong as I prefer. The service was phenomenal. The staff was attentive, kind, and genuinely friendly throughout the entire experience. I felt well taken care of and truly enjoyed myself. I would definitely return.

My girlfriend takes food very seriously so it's hard to find good spots and this place really impressed her. We came back two days in a row to try different plates and they all slapped. (Chile Rellenos, quesadillas, salsa wheel, tacos, ceviche). The drinks were amazing as well. (Pina Colada, margarita - they have happy hour 4pm- 6pm) All of the above would be enough in itself but the staff was really friendly and accommodating without doing too much. I.e They don't come across as fake. Anyways, if you are looking for a spot to try in Playa Del Carmen, eat here at least once and see what's up.

The tacos were packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and served hot and fresh every time. You can taste the quality and the technique especially in the way the meat is cooked and carved. Everything felt simple but done right, which honestly is what makes a taco stand out. The atmosphere is lively and busy (for good reason), but service moves quickly and efficiently. It feels like the kind of place locals actually eat at, not just a tourist trap with hype. We fully intended to try different taco spots around Playa del Carmen... but after our first visit, we couldn't resist coming back. When a place makes you change your food itinerary, you know it's worth it. If you're in Playa and debating whether it lives up to the hype it does!!

Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
