Despite being a huge Reese's Peanut Butter Cup fan, I thought that this flavor in a cookie would be a little over-the-top. Not so with these. I keep a log of the dough in the freezer and make like 2-4 cookies at a time. (I always get the extra if it's an odd number.) Use Skippy Natural Peanut Butter (I swear I am not getting paid by any of these brands) and they come out perfect: mild peanut butter flavor, lots of chocolate chips, chewy, melt-in-your mouth deliciousness. The interesting thing is that they use maple sugar instead of regular sugar. That must make the difference because these are the best-tasting chocolate chip cookies ever. One time, I ran out of the dough (I know...!) so I drove an hour to go get more. Their store is quaint and sells lots of kitchen and baking products along with yummy homemade jams and sauces. This is a family business, and it shines through on all levels - from the friendly customer service, to the genuine home-cooked quality you can really only get from smaller-scale operations. You can even take a tour to find out how maple syrup is made. But the reason that I elbowed my way through the crowded shop was to locate, and find - to my relief - a shelf full of jars of this cookie mix. (The shelf is at the back of the store, next to the register.) They have other kinds of homemade cookie mixes too, but I haven't torn myself away from these to try the others yet. And I love that the cookie mixes come in jars. It looks old-fashioned, and hey...free jar! Quintessential New England deliciousness. These cookies should be famous.
