This is another case of Yelp is correct! It was just ok. It was the closest Mexican restaurant and I knew going in it might be average. I also thought it was it's hard to mess up Mexican. Let's go with the positives first. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! Service was friendly. The cheese dip was great on my chimichanga. My chimichangas were pretty good. The chicken seemed to be flavorful and soaked in spices. They give two kinds of salsa to your table - a mild and a hotter version. Things that need to be worked on: the mild salsa to me seems to be overwhelmingly garlic, the service was friendly but seems like there are a few guys standing around doing nothing while I have to watch my waiter serve many tables and take longer to work his way back to me, it was more expensive than the normal Mexican restaurant (chimichanga was $12), Positives and negatives added up and that equals being ok. Food was mediocre, service was very poor, ambiance is typical casual. Server always seemed he was put out when asked for chips or the cheese dip we order 15 minutes prior. When asking another passing employee for something they said someone will be with us.... It took 12 minutes from the time we sat down for our server to show up. Had lunch with my daughter yesterday. Service was a bit slow once we ordered. Clean family atmosphere. Nice menu selections ( sorry I didn't get any pics) Our meal was very tasty! She's a vegetarian and had cheese enchilada and refried beans. :) I had a tamale and a chili releno. Delicious! The guacamole was perfect. Chunky just like we like it! We love this great small town Mexican restaurant! El Nopal is out favorite in Mt Washington. You'll be greeted by smiling faces and eager waiters. They take your orders promptly and bring your food out as quickly as possible. And they're sure to keep up on the drink refills! Lots of TV's to enjoy the game! My favorite menu choice is the Lime Chile Tilapia. Two big pieces of boneless fish grilled with a mix of seasonings it's always delicious. Served with rice, beans, and a few grilled shrimp. El Nopal everybody has one in their Town everybody loves them for the most part. They're kind of sweeping Louisville by storm it seems like because there's at least three and every 10 mile radius that I see for some reason. But it is phenomenal I love it this one in Mount Washington is excellent it is in a nice little shopping center next to the Kroger it's conveniently located they have giant beers for like $3 of Miller Lite that I enjoy getting to get free chips and salsa would you can't go wrong with the service is excellent totally agree that it is one of the best Mexican places around. I usually get a combination number 11 which is a taco a burrito and enchiladaperiod And it's like $8. You can't go wrong with it I love it and it is a totally would recommend leave your house right now and go try it immediately. read more

We love this place. My wife and I eat here 3-5 times a week. Daily specials, cheap cerveza, and the food is exceptional! Try the chori pollo or carnitas. Also if you like heat ask for a side of diablo sauce! Added to the regular salsa and you will be reaching for a cold beverage after a few chips! Be sure to tip your waiter/waitress! One of the few places I have had a very bad experience at. And unfortunately I've had a few here. My family and I had been dinning here 2-3 times a month for years, one day I noticed an extra charge on my receipt, they had charged me for 2 drinks because I had "too many refills" the. Then they argued with me for 5 minutes about the charge. I wonder how many times they had done this to me over the years. The second time was just after mask mandates lifted, they started yelling at me for not wearing one. I began putting one on and tried to tell them the law had just changed. They called me a liar and even though I began putting one on they continued yelling at me and yelling back and forth to each other in Spanish. We have not been back. read more

Veterans don't even bother with this place. The poster offers 10%, but they want a veteran ID which I'm not a retiree, 100% disabled or reservist. I offered my drivers license, and mentioned a VFW or American Legion membership card. De nada? No. It's good to see posters offering discounts to emergency responders and vets, but remember you veterans ID if you want to take advantage of this. Maybe if I carry my DD214 in next time? I ate here with my elderly parents. I pointed to a picture of the item I wanted on the menu which I could not pronounce. The waiter said xxxxx and I said yes as I could not understand him. When my food came out I saw that it was not what I had pointed to. What I wanted was the chicken meal with Jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, and onions. I got the chicken meal with onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and it was loaded with mushrooms. I do not eat mushrooms. When the waiter came back to the table I told him I didn't think I got the right thing. He said something I couldn't hear and walked away ignoring me. I picked out all the mushrooms and ate some of the meal. It was pretty tasteless without the Jalapenos. When I went to pay, I told him again that I didn't get what I wanted. I asked to see a menu and again pointed to what I wanted which did say Jalapenos. He said "I asked if you wanted xxxxxx" I said I didn't understand what he said but I pointed to what I wanted and there was nothing anywhere near it that had mushrooms included. He half way said sorry just to end the situation. I was thinking he should have at least offered me a discount. I would have been happy with $5.00 off. As it was, I just thought "well, I'm sorry too and did not leave him a tip". I have ordered that item 4 times in the past year. I do not enjoy eating here as the waiters do not ever seem very caring. read more

Food is really good but attitude and service are terrible! I ordered and paid online and arrived for pick up. After they had confirmed I was there for a pick up order they walked away. I waited for 20 minutes while they checked out everybody who was in line or got in line while I was there. Two other people came through the line and paid in line and picked up their food. Finally when no one was left they asked me my name and handed me a bag that I've been sitting there by the counter the entire time. Of course the food was cold, no one said sorry we didn't realize you were waiting for this pick up, nothing. They could've handed it to me the minute I got there And I would've been gone and have hot food. This is not the first time the service he has been bad, but I have always come back because the food is good. I think it'll take some time for me to decide to come back. read more

Gave it another chance today after being left on hold for several minutes trying to place a phone order and then walked in and couldn't get waited on either a few weeks ago. Queso and Burrito El Carbon are staples here. If I have to hear my girlfriend tell me how much she loves and misses this place while in Cali anymore, I will see if they can't mail food in. Service is extremely quick, staff is friendly, and a never ending supply of chips and salsa. Waiters are friendly & love the group, mainly because they are such regulars. We arrive at 8:20 on a Sunday night. Hours posted restaurant closed at 9:00 and we were in a hurry so worry. Server asked immediately if we knew what we wanted and we ordered cheese dip while he got our waters. He came back quickly and asked if we knew what we wanted. We asked for a moment and he said, kitchen closes in 5-minutes. Interesting because the restaurant doesn't closed for 33-minutes. He left the table and never came back. 5-min later we had to ask the mgr to find our server. Order placed so stress level down a notch. At 20 til 9:00 a family of 4 walked in and the staff clustered to decide what to do. The family was allowed to sit and order which stunned us given our server's lecture about the kitchen closing at 8:30. Manager came out and looked annoyed. Glad they could eat. At 8:50, 2 people walked in and the manager said they were closed despite the 9:00pm closing time posted. Out food arrived but missing the normal sour cream and tomatoes denoted on the menu . Server said they were out. Yeah, right! I had to track down the server for more water, our check and again for a to-go box. Absolutely ZERO interest in returning to this location. read more

The food is usually great and I haven't experienced any bad service issues...until today. I bought one of the normal dishes I normally get. The service was good as usual up until I went to pay. I went up to the counter and paid in cash leaving the tip on the table. The guy rang up my order and then as i was walking out threw up his arms and "WHAT NO TIP?!" in a very annoyed sounding matter. I informed him that asking for a tip was extremely rude and that I had left it on the table. Really ruined this place for me. It is common sense not to EVER ask a customer for a tip. read more

We had dinner here in Mount Washing Saturday Oct. 20th 2018 after helping some friends move. About 5 minutes after we left I realized I forgot my sunglasses on the table. I immediately called and explained that I forgot my sunglasses and would be turning around to pick them up. He put me on hold for a significant amount of time and came back on saying there were no sunglasses on the table and that no one in his staff had them. He explained that he had cameras and he would review the video and let me know what he finds out. I called back several times the next day and every time I called the person on the phone said he could not speak English and I would have to call back the next day, after having the same experience on the phone today.... well here I am. I find it very suspicious that my sunglasses were never found by anyone due to the fact that we were setting in the back corner with no other patrons around us. read more
