Twas a nice drive over the river and through the South Valley we go. There was plenty of parking…read morewhen I came for the Dia de Los Muertos event. I wandered the main house set up with ofrendas and read quickly about the history of the property. I'd like to come back and delve more into the details when there's not as much of a crowd to hurry you along. Unfortunately, the Dia de Los Muertos event itself was a bit disappointing (hence the 3 stars instead of 4 for the location itself). Only a few lowriders and food trucks were present. There was live music and dancing, but the procession itself was small and not like images of parades I've seen from the past. But, it's a great way to acknowledge and represent our culture and those who have gone before us. 2022 #58

Over the past few months, I've connected with a handful of organizations and nonprofits in the…read moresouth valley that offer a dose of Albuquerque history that you won't find throughout the rest of the city. The Gutierrez - Hubbell House was an undiscovered gem. I've lived in this town 20+ years, I'd never connected to this incredible organization/venue, but I'm headed back, soon. A few notes on why you MUST visit this farm/museum: lush, immaculate, expansive. Family-friendly, too. These acres own an identity that goes way back, 18th century, and you'll need to take a tour to learn the specifics, but the basics: east coast wanderer meets a Spanish girl, they start a family, become an invaluable resource in this city, and that's the way they all became the Gutierrez-Hubbell Bunch. Bah dum bum. Two hundred-plus years later the venue nearly falls victim to private investors, but a spirited group of locals volunteer to uphold a legacy. Gardens grow. Festivals flourish. The heritage of Albuquerque's south valley remains intact. The place is open year-round save holiday closures. Tours are easily scheduled, just call. There's so much to experience around here, the grounds are gorgeous, rows of produce pop outside the doors of the facility. The Fermentation Festival has become the largest fundraiser/educational event of their season, and from what I've learned, it's worth a visit, late June.

Had a very delightful dinner there lastnight. There was a rather large birthday gathering. but…read morebesides that was just us and another table. and it was the last hour they were open. The birthday cake looked great, and the server served it up, and snapped a group photo.. We ordered the empanadas, and a tamale. and they were out of the fish, but they had lamb chops. The empanadas were room temperature. which at first i kinda wanted hem warm, but after the first bite the complaints melted away into sounds of appreciation for the flavors. and the deep lovely red chile sauce with it. and my only complaint was that they were then gone! Nom Nom Nom.. The lamb had just a teeny bit of muttony flavor and a perfect sear. we split the 2 lamb lolly pops. and spent plenty of time cleaning the rib. the glaze was fantastic! the potatoes and calibicitas were also super flavorful and delightful! Came with a side of butternut puree that was so smooth. and also perfectly spiced. My companion hates vinegary salad dressings, but the side salad that came with the Tamale, was lovely, just the right amount of oil and umami flavors, and only a hint of maybe lemon? for the acid. we both enjoyed it quite a lot which is saying something for a salad. The tamale. was cute in its pooked open wrapper. we left it inside and quite enjoyed picking out the delightful masa. my only complaint was i think we should have asked for spoons. as a fork is not the best way to pick a tamale out of the wrapper. (or we could have dumped it out. but once again it was cute as served. I would have preferred meat to the tamale. but really enjoyed it as it was too. Lastly on the way out we got a choke cherry tart, and a butterscotch bunt cake to go.. which we ate later.. both were great! We will need to return and try more dishes. and the desert Empanada, (they were sold out) and likely i will update to a 5 star. Fyi looks like they kinda run as two different kitchens, Snapdragon Tea, in the mornings, and Mila's Mesa at night. definitely going to have to go and try out one of the tea time reservations.

I attended Mila's Mesa opening night this past October. It was superb. The place was buzzing! And…read morethe food was superb! So I had to return. I've been back a couple of times since and the food never disappoints. The butternut and sage bucatini pasta is delish. The chicken posole verde has to be the best comfort food in town! And the Peruvian chicken is to die for! Other favorites of mine are the blue cornbread and the biscochitos. A couple of times I've been pleasantly surprised by the music performances Mila's Mesa offers in its simple and homey atmosphere. For me, the attentive service from Emma and Alex - my servers on different occasions - complemented the excellent food and warm environment. Can't recommend Mila's Mesa enough! I think it's a great new asset and option in Albuquerque 's Nob Hill!

The employee at the front desk was not very welcoming and I feel it was because of my service dog. She was quite accusatory in her tone asking if my dog is a service dog, when she is clearly trained to assist me when walking. I offered to show her my paperwork (even though it's not legally required) and she slightly lowered the sass when I presented it! I passed through just before the end of the lock down and they were a bit rude when it came to making you wear a mask. I was sat stationary drinking water and taking my meds and got scolded by a male employee who was outright rude. Definitely not the way to treat anyone, let alone someone with a disability. There aren't many places to choose from in this area and the room is clean if that's all you really need. Miserable front desk employees though.

Dear IHG Executive Team,…read more I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration with the recent decision to remove coffee from the rooms at Holiday Inn Express hotels. I was informed that coffee will no longer be available in-room and instead will only be served in the lobby. As a loyal IHG Diamond Elite Member and frequent traveler (staying in over 200 IHG hotel rooms annually), this change is a significant setback. In the past, I was a top-tier Marriott member, but I stopped visiting Marriott (Courtyard) hotels when they made the decision to eliminate in-room coffee. I fear this policy at IHG will have the same effect on my travel choices. As a professional road warrior, I often arrive late at night and start my day early, typically waking up at 4:00 AM. Having coffee in my room is essential for me to start my day productively, both for the caffeine and as part of my morning routine. The alternative of getting dressed, using the elevator, and walking to the lobby to obtain coffee simply does not align with my needs or expectations for a convenient stay. I will not tote a coffee machine from the front desk to my room, the alternative offered at check in. Additionally, I noticed the new Bunn coffee machines in the lobby, which, frankly, did not improve the experience. The coffee tastes no better, and it took longer to get a cup. If this decision was made to save costs, or due to a new contract with Bunn I want to express that it has not enhanced the guest experience in any meaningful way. Given that I pay an average of $158 per night for my stays, removing something as basic as in-room coffee feels like a poor decision that will only drive loyal customers like myself away. If this becomes the standard across all IHG properties, I will be forced to consider other hotel chains, such as Hilton. This decision does not align with the needs of professional travelers, and I hope you will reconsider the direction you are heading. I trust that you, as a key leaders, will raise this issue with your corporate branding team before it affects more loyal customers. I will not be returning to your Albuquerque location, and I sincerely hope this message prompts a reassessment of this policy. Thank you for your attention. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Just booked a studio room since we were only there overnight. Hotel is beautiful and I thought it was fairly new; however, speaking to a housekeeper, the property has been around for quite some time and she said it was due for a remodel. I was shocked as it was surprisingly modern to me and very well kept! Breakfast was really good as it had both omelettes and fried eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and of course cereal and the waffle station. The only item lacking was cream cheese for the bagels. I really enjoyed the stay and felt safe. The bed was super comfy and also very quiet. Would definitely recommend this property and will stay again.

Our flight arrived early and the hotel is near the airport, so we arrived early there too. Knowing…read morethat check-in time isn't until 4pm, we thought we'd see if we could check in early since we're traveling with a baby and needed to change her diaper, etc. The hotel parking lot was nearly empty and we saw a guy loading a cart to take his luggage into the hotel so odds looked good. The lady at the front desk wouldn't accept my ID and made a point of letting us know that it wasn't check-in time yet. My husband politely said yeah we know but the plane came in early. She curiously looked from us to our baby and decided to check available rooms although again, the lot was nearly empty. Of course there were rooms clean and available. After assigning us a room we noticed 4 more families approach the desk and check in with no problem. So the guy before us was successful and everyone after us was successful. None of them looked like us though. Once checked in, the room was nice, bed was supportive, and everything worked well. We did notice how dimly lit the bathroom was. When looking closely, it could've been a little cleaner. We went out and bought cleaning supplies from Walmart to ensure we could bathe our toddler in the bathtub after using the pool. Oh and the indoor pool is not heated, so our little one was freezing. We had to get out after about 20 minutes because her lips started turning blue from being cold. Finally, at checkout the bill was slightly higher than what we expected. When I asked why, I was told it was for parking. During check-in there was no mention of a charge for parking and for all they know, we were dropped off there. Nobody asked if we planned to park or told us there was a large for it. We still would've stayed and payed but it's nice to know up front what the charges will be. Prior to arriving, we'd booked this place for Saturday through Tuesday, then again Thursday to the next Saturday. After this experience during the first booking, we canceled the second leg with this hotel and booked at another property with great online reviews for hospitality and a heated pool. We have family in Albuquerque and travel here monthly. First and last time at this hotel.
