The company and their "protocols" should get 1 STAR. I gave two stars because of the staff. After waiting for two hours in the check out process, they charged us $350 for a half full tyre because of a nail that got stuck in it. We recently rented an RV from El Monte for our trip to FL. Overall we had a great experience! We were given a brand new 2024 RV. It was perfect condition and drove great. We did the original overview and brought the RV with no additional charges. It is a bit pricy to rent but we would go through El Monte again if we choose to. read more

Cheated, and Betrayed are some words that com to mind when I think about this company. We were 4 pilots and a small boy we wanted to go to an air show in Oshkosh WI from NJ. We booked an RV with a deposit, from El Monte more than 6 months in advance of our trip. We called a month out to confirm and were told everything is fine. We called a week out and were told don't worry your reservation is good. We stop by the day before to clear up the paperwork to speed us up the next day and we are told they could not do that till the next day. And were told again "Don't worry you reservation is fine". OK so departure day is here and we arrive and we are told sorry we don't have any of the style of RV you reserved in stock. would you like to take a larger one for a larger fee ? Bait and switch it's getting late so we go for it. Do the paper work and they show us a rig with a broken awning dented and scratched exterior. With rain water leaking down the center of the floor coming in from the roof! So We don't want it but that is all that is available now it's even later. Load up and start the engine to find the check engine light is on. An hour later the mechanic comes out and plugs a scanner device in the the rig and clears the code. The code was a transmission fault and mechanic only cleared the code he did not fix anything . That light was going to come back on. We decided to bail and drive up 4 men and a small boy in a pick up truck with all our gear in the back for 17 hours. The really painful part of this saga is while we were there we video taped 6 brand new rigs leave with German tourist driving. There were other new rigs in the back reserved for other people. It seem that they only cater to the tour companies and screw the one time renters. Stay far far away from this place. They have the worst business practices I have ever seen read more

Cheated is a place to begin. This company totally cheated us. My family and I rented a Class A RV for exactly one week to drive from NJ to FL. The day we picked up the RV was the longest, most complicated process. We received a phone call from the company telling us we will not be receiving our RV because we missed an appointment (that we were never told about, not in our contract or via telephone). After speaking with the company, we arrived immediately to the location to prevent anymore complications (ya, right). We waited 45 minuted before someone began the paperwork (photocopying drivers licenses, signing contracts, money). We were then directed to a room with a TV and were told to pay attention because it will teach us the different function to the Class A RV (heat, AC, generator, etc.) and they gave us a very thick manual in case we forgot anything. After 2.5 hours of last minute checks we finally hit the road. 40 minutes into our trip down the NJ turnpike, the motor on the windshield wipers break and the wipe blades no longer are cleaning the windshield. We called the 1800 roadside assistance number they gave us and were told that there is nothing they can do for us until the morning and to pull over and wait till tomorrow. We tied a rope to the wipers and manually moved them ourselves to assure our schedule was met. By the time we reached Maryland, the generator STOPPED working, along with the heat. Travelling with a 6 week old baby who needed a warm bottle every 2-3 hours created a HUGE problem with a broken generator causing us to stop and get warm water every bottle. The companies solutions to this....HEAT IT UP ON THE STOVE. Finally in Orlando, they traded out our RV for a worse RV. Instead of broken amenities inside, this RV drove as if it was going to crash an burn at every corner. Long story short, we FLEW back to NJ to reassure our lives. The company still tried to charge us more and more fees because leaving the RV in Orlando was inconvenient to them...ridiculous. STAY AWAY from this company. read more

Terrible customer service and hundreds of dollars in unexpected charges have left me furious after my experience with this company. To recount from the beginning - 1. The check in process was extremely vague and unclear. We left feeling totally unprepared to operate our RV, not to mention totally unclear on why we were paying $700+ over the amount we had already paid to reserve the RV (insurance, state fees, bedding, kitchen kit, you name it). If I had known I was going to pay $225 to use their kitchenware and cheap bedding, I would have brought my own! 2. We also were given no advice or instructions on how to drive in the direct area, let alone everywhere else we went. We didn't get 20 miles from the rental center before being pulled over twice for being places we weren't allowed to be. Some advice on this would have been appreciated. as there is real danger of being on bridges or under low overpasses if you don't know to watch for them. 3. Upon returning, we were charged another $50 for an unexpected cleaning fee (negotiated down from $100) because the dog (which we specified we had in the reservation) left too much dog hair in the RV. The guy checking us in said we should have done some preliminary vacuuming or sweeping to avoid that. How would we have known? No idea. Is the judgement call to charge or not charge the cleaning fee totally subjective? Seems like it. 4. We were also told upon returning that we were supposed to refill the gas tank, which was not clearly explained to me. My options? Go back out and fill it (btw, everything takes twice as long in an RV) or pay $6/gallon for them to do it. We had time restrictions, so tack on more fees. 5. I made it clear that I wanted the credit card used for the security deposit to be used only for that. Everything else was to go on the other card. But $700+ was charged to the security deposit card, and I was told it was impossible to correct it. So my husband just paid for his own birthday trip because of that mistake. Thanks guys. No willingness to help, once again 5. I got home to look at the final bill, and NONE of it made sense to me. I had to detail it out and speak to their corporate office to understand why I paid almost twice as much as I expected at the end of it ($700 of $900 worth of charges were a surprise to me) 6. Just to add a bit more fuel to the fire, they are closed on Sundays and holidays. When do most people return from vacations? Oh right, Sundays and holidays. And there is no after hours drop off. In New York City, you can't exactly park the RV in your driveway for the extra day you are paying for and don't want, so we had to spend the night in a crappy New Jersey RV park just to have it there on time the next day. We actually had a lovely trip in our RV, but the experiences at the beginning and end were so frustrating and horrible that it unfortunately put a bad taste in our mouths about the entire thing, which is such a shame. I left the office in tears yesterday because I was so frustrated. All throughout, the people working there seemed totally uninterested in engaging us or helping us. Next time, I will gladly drive further outside the city to do this somewhere else. read more

Be careful to Bed Bugs..! Im in the hospital now and this is my first Yelp review.., We rented an RV from this place by the recommendation of the festival 's website called Further Future. We had bed bugs bites everywhere on the second day of the festival. When we went to drop the RV, i talked to Manager, he said they are not bed bugs, they are mosquito bites., i show the bites to a doctor, and they agreed on that they were bed bugs.,! Do not rent an RV from this place not only because of bed bugs also the manager and employees are so hands off and tired of working there. My husband and I recently rented an RV from El Monte in Linden. We went to look at them beforehand and went for the 22 foot camper for a 6 day trip to Illinois. The staff was very helpful and went over everything with us. We were thrilled to hear that almost the entire fleet of 22 footers was 2013 and 2014. A few days before we left I received the exact make, model and VIN for the insurance certificate and they confirmed it was a 2014 with only 12,000 miles. When we went to pick it up everything was perfect, and off we went. When we were on the road we had some questions, the 1-800 number was very helpful and nice. The camper was very clean and operated exactly like it should have. Drop off was equally easy, we were a few minutes late and they had no problem with that. Later, my husband thought he lost something in the camper and they went back and checked for the item and called us back. Angie and Martina are really helpful and nice and so is the rest of the staff. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because it's hard to find with the GPS. The staff was very nice and helpful - but it took way too long to rent the RV. We had booked a pick up time at 1.30 pm but arrived an hour early after speaking with one of the employees who said it might be possible to take us in earlier. There were 3 people in the office - only one was helping the customers - don't know what the others were doing. At 2pm when they realized that the employee who was supposed to help us was delayed we finally got some help from another. But the process was still way too long - we left the office with the RV at 5PM. It was awful to wait this long with 3 small children. read more

Rented over Memorial Day Weekend, turned out to be a great trip. The RV had only about 1500 miles on it when we got it, so we were probably the 2nd or 3rd group of people to ever use it. Needless to say, everything in it was clean and shiny, worked great mechanically. This location is a bit tough to get to, but just follow the signs posted when you get to a tough spot in the GPS. My only gripe is that they told me the checkout process would take an hour, and thus because they close at 5, if I was to get there later than 4 they could not rent to me. On memorial day weekend, I hit heavy traffic and was set to be there at 415, but remembered what they said and called to make an appointment for first thing the next morning instead. When I got there in the morning, the checkout lasted only 30 mins, so I totally could have done it the day before had they let me. Didn't make a huge difference on my specific trip, but could have for another group's plans. Staff is very helpful and courteous, let's you know everything about the vehicle and takes time to explain things to RV noobs like me. read more

Great experience with our 22' Leprechaun from NJ Linden El Monte. Everything worked great - all system were used quite extensively- due lost of power and water at our West Point camp site. Road phone support was very knowledgeable and awesome. User manual was good source to back up user brief at Linden NJ pickup site. The people at Linden El Monte were great to us, family of 4, with two toddlers who ran through the office releasing massive energy stored up form a non stop united flight. Recommend El Monte due Short DVD equipment brief to be used later! We will be back soon! read more

Windshield wipers that fell OFF the RV 3 hours into our 10 hour trip during a rainstorm, customer service hard to reach on Thanksgiving weekend, no truck stops nearby for repair, generator that stopped working in the middle of the night with loss of heat, refridgerator that also stopped working with loss of food, loss of time, tense driving without windshield wipers, loss of paid preferred RV parking space due to delay in arriving and a tiny, tiny adamant reimbursement for our troubles. read more

As this was my first RV rental, I walked away very pleased! I started the process several months ago, driving out to Linden to check out RVs and see what I might feel comfortable driving. I looked at the Class C RVs and with the assistance of the lovely Annie, decided that on my first try I would opt for the 22-23 foot RV. On the day of the rental I came out early for my 3:30 appointment and though they were a bit backed up, my paperwork started by 3:45. I watched the video, got the manual and did the walk around and check with Don who was kind enough to answer my general and I am sure lame questions. Once on the road I picked up my wife and kids from the train and off we went. Our only issue was being stopped by a low overpass, so we decided to have dinner and map out another route. Once we got on the road, we were fine. Driving was easier than expected, though I had to take it easy so as not to scratch the mirrors at the toll booths. We arrived at the KOA Campground in Elizabethtown PA a bit later than expected, but our reservation was there waiting and hookup was simple. We forgot to turn on the propane, so we were a bit chilly in the morning, but the KOA folks helped us out. Saturday we spent at Hershey's Chocolate World. Parking was a snap and we enjoyed the day a great deal. The KOA folks suggested a terrific diner not far from the campground and we all had a good dinner. The heat in the RV was fine that night as was the water the next morning. We went to a fall festival that was not so great and then to the Turkey Hill Experience that was fantastic! Again, we were able to park with ease and Sunday night was a breeze. Travelled back to El Monte on Monday morning with no problems and returned the RV in no time at all. We looked at the ones a bit larger and are thinking that we might try a 28 foot RV next time for a bit more room. Our only issue was that we could not get the table to make a bed, but the kids enjoyed sleeping together above the drivers cab and that we could have used a bit more room! Besides that the trip was a great success, thanks in great part to the very nice people at El Monte RV in Linden, New Jersey! read more

We are a Swiss family from Switzerland. For our Summer vacation in USA we rented an RV from El Monte. We picked up our RV on July 10. 2017 from Miami and 5 week after we droped off in Linden NJ. After all Dropp off Procedures, I wanted to order a UBER Taxi. Our Europian Cell Phones have no Internet Data Packages. When we want to acces internet, we need a WiFi. I asked to Elmonte Employee about WiFi and his answer was "we have no WiFi because of we are not a Campground." My second question was, if they can give me a hotspot WiFi-Access-Point on a cell phone that I can order my UBER Taxi. Answer was the same NO! Office Manager told to us that We could get a Taxi. We are 4 Persons (2 Adults and 2 Kids with 5 Luggage) and we should need two Taxis. It will costed over 300 Dollar from Linden/NJ to JFK Airport. Then he gaves us another super advice that, many of Custumer take railway to JFK. Imagine, 2 Adults and 2 Kids with 5 Luggage with railway to JFK. I thougt he was kidding. But no, he was not kidding. About my question where the next WiFi to find is, his answer was "NO IDEA". I walked over half Mile around and after one Hour I found a Restaurant (Podlasie Deli. Thank you very much for your Kindness) and the allowed me to use their WiFi. After one hour Nightmare about WiFi we got our UBER Taxi and drived to JFK. We rented several times from Mouturis, Cruise Americe and Roadbear and first time El Monte. But we got never such a disappointment. Although El Monte Linden/NJ no Campground is, I ask, how many Dollars costs to El Monte a Customer WiFi? I would like to give a good advise to El Monte Linden/NJ. Never rent from this place. My name is Andrew Cedar and I have had the worst time dealing with this company. The first time I rented from them the heat didn't work and I had to bring the camper back. I lost a day of my trip. They gave me a hard time but finally I spoke to someone with morals which is very far and few. They offered me an upgrade on my next trip. So I just rented from them again. They Upgraded me to their PREMIER model with low mileage. Well this model the tv didn't work, there was multiple problems with the mechanical end of the rv and I ended up having to buy parts for it that I never got reimbursed for. When I got back from my trip the manager Mike had told me that I must have taken the remote control for the tv because it was listed on the inspection sheet. There was no point on dealing with a rude manager so I spoke to their main dept manager Val in California. She told me that because I didn't call there roadside assistance that I was entitled to anything. Good luck trying to get in touch with anyone. This is a terrible company. Comments from prior reviewers are completely on point. This company apparently does a good business with tourism agencies bringing foreign tourists to the states, but gives the back of the hand to one-time renters. We reserved an RV for a five day vacation in Vermont over the 4th of July. We arrived at 2 pm on July 3rd to pick up the RV. Though the internet booking system suggested it would cost around $1300, by the time they were done nickel and diming us, we were in for over $2K. But at least, the saleslady said, we were going to have a great time in their fantastic RV. There was a huge difference between the shiney new RVs being pulled up front for the foreign tourists and what we were offered. When the "fantastic RV" was finally pulled up front after 3, it was infrested with ants, had over 100K miles on it and the interior was in very poor shape. Although the lot was busting at the seams with new looking rigs, they only alternative they offered us was a 2006 model with over 115K miles that they said had been recently reoutfitted. By that point it was after 4 and we were facing a 7 hour drive so we took it. When the replacement RV was finally pull out front to be inspected, it was in bad shape: the power door locks and passenger side window did not work, it didn't look like any recent reoutfitting had been done, and it did not appear well maintained. Now nearly 5 pm, we took it any way. We should have just walked away. The RV was a mess to drive. Handling was loose, brakes were low, and the transmission was sticking. By sundown, we had barely made it 100 miles and we realized the dashboard lights didn't work either. With the transmission failing in a downpoor and unable to see the speedometer or tachometer, we tried to find a campground but gave up and paid for a hotel. El Monte Roadside assistance reported they couldn't do anything for us until July 5th. We set out early on the morning of July 4, but we didn't get far. Within 30 miles, the check engine light came on. Shortly thereafter the transmission started making notices, and when I pulled off the interstate I noticed the smoke coming from under the hood -- the transmission was leaking boiling transmission fluid. Once again, roadside assistance wasn't helpful. The woman on the phone could not find a tow truck or a replacement RV. Ultimately she agreed that I should drive the RV to the closest Ford dealer and leave it there. And, she made a reservation for a rental car. The ordeal took 6 hours and cost me $90 in cab fare and $700 to rent a car. Then I needed to buy a tent and air mattress, as we had left ours at home thinking we'd be sleeping in the RV. By 4 pm on the 4th of July, we were finally on the road -- more than 24 hours behind schedule and over $1200 over budget. July 5th we finally heard from the manager in Linden, who reported that he would refund the cost of the rental, but that there would be no replacement RV and we would not be reimbursed for any of the out of pocket expenses. We cancelled our reservation at the RV pack on Lake Champlain -- and forfeited our $50 deposit. On July 6th we contacted the car rental agency to find out where we should return the rental car near Linden NJ. We were surprised to learn that the El Money Roadside assistance woman had reserved us a car that could only be returned in Hartford, Ct. When I called El Monte, a customer service manager named Judy instructed me that this was my fault and my responsibility. So I rented a second car to drive us from Hartford to Linden to get our car, to be returned in Newark. Cha-Ching -- there went another $208! El Monte is the worst kind of Company. A bad product, and terrible service and support. I ended up losing the first and last day of my vacation, never having an RV to sleep in, and out of pocket around $1500. Beware! read more

I worked at the branch of El Monte RV in New Jersey. I am a foreign student who came to El Monte RV on a work-and-travel program, for the summer. I was hired as a housekeeper for the RVs, but since I spoke English better than my coworkers, the boss (Chris), told me that I was "promoted" to the position of the cashier/customer service. The promotion meant more responsibility, but the same pay. Also, we were told not to tell potential customers about the problems the RV had, but when they were returning the RV, we had to charge the customers for the damage that had gone unnoticed when they took the car. Also, our boss (Chris) abused me and my coworkers psychologically. He used to lock us in the park on the weekends, so that we can't go out. For th e whole summer I didnt get a SSC because he never cooperated with the SSA to get me one, although he was retaining money from my paycheck every month. I left in August, and then finally my SSC arrived. When I called and e-mailed them about my last paycheck, I was told that I won't be getting it because I stole money from the company when I was working there. When I suggested to call the police so they can investigate, they refused. In the winter I asked for my W2 and after a month of hide-and-seek I was told that the money retained from my paychecks was never reported on taxes and there was no W2 for me. My sister had to call them and threaten that she would call the IRS, and only then they sent me a check by mail, just returning the money they had retained. This company is trying to cheat and rip off its customers, and it treats its employees very badly. I wish the authorities started an investigation on them. read more

The then offered us an upgrade for an additional fee (bait and switch maybe). With really had no choice and we took it. 2 hours into our trip the RV flooded from the Black and Gray tank which they never emptied from the last customer. The indicators were broken. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY....EVER! How can anyone rate this company 5 stars is beyond me. We rented an RV for a trip from NJ to Nashville. Immediately after leaving, we noticed a loud whine from the back end of the RV. OK so we are not RV experts, and thought it normal for such a large vehicle. at 50 mph, the whine was so loud you could not talk. We called their so called 800 line, and they wanted us to drive hours to a place to check it out.. WE didnt feel safe driving more than 30 minutes at a clip, and nothing close to 50 MPH. WE talked to their staff, but they kept directing us to many places that we felt was too far. I tried to talk to a mechanic, but none called me. We NEVER reached Nashville, and barely made it out of NJ. When we brought it back and complained that we had a ruined trip because of this, they offered SOME money back, and forced us to sign a waiver stating that we accept this small refund only, and will not seek more restitution. THey threatened that if we didnt sign that form, we'd get NO MONEY REFUNDED AT ALL. can you say, EXTORTION? DO NOT SIGN THIS FORM!!!! Long story short, we learned that they took the RV to a Ford dealer, and ELmonte told us that the Dealer found significant mechanical problems with the back end of the RV. Furthermore, we learned that ELMONTE RV DOES NOT DO ANY SORT OF SAFETY CHECK ON THE VEHICLES THAT THEY RENT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY DO NOT CARE THAT THE VEHICLE THEY ARE RENTING COULD HAVE OBVIOUS AND SERIOUS MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. THE SALES REP KARL TOLD US THAT THIS IS WHY THE ASK EACH CUSTOMER IF THEY HAD ANY PROBLEMS. Since when did I become an RV expert? This is THEIR business, and they need to do some kind of safety check to ensure that each vehicle rented is safe for you and your family. If you rent from them, you are putting your family's safety at risk. So once we learned that they did not rent us a safe vehicle, we pursued a full refund since they too no steps to ensure our safety. this process is currently ongoing. we will not stop until they refund us all our money, and change their practices to include a safety check of all vehicles prior to renting them out. ELMONTE. Elmonte kept pointing to their contract saying that they are held harmless to problems encountered on the road, but they never rented us a safe vehicle in the first place. Before you rent, look over all the reviews here and make the right choice. I am sure that the 5 star ratings are planted on here by Elmonte employees.
