You need to get rid of the parking attendant and the prepay. People should be able to pay on their way out for the amount of time stayed in the lot. I went there to pay for my ticket that I got on 8/2, just to find out that it's not filed yet. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes, and it cost me $7.00. That's not right. It should be free for the 1st 10 or 15 minutes like what majority of pay parking lots do. People shouldn't have to pay for parking when they are going into pay for a citation, etc. read more

At the El Monte Courthouse, I had the best judicial experience to date. When I arrived, there was a line at the door, but I needed to use the restroom. I let the sheriff know that helped me locate my name on the docket. He had compassion for me and allowed me to go ahead of the line into the building. Whew, what a relief. While I was in department 6 for a traffic violation, Judge Daniel A. Lopez was judging cases with wisdom and compassion. Everyone left the courtroom with a smile because Judge Lopez's judgments were fair and just. Some left the court with no fees to pay; others left with a reduction in costs by 75% - 80%, another will receive a refund check. Judge Lopez and his supporting staff restored my faith and gave me hope in the Judicial system. I would there be more like him in our judiciary. Thank You! read more

Well, it's not like I'm an expert in courthouses... Thank goodness! I've only been to court a handful of times. Yes and No. Lol. Yes, it's for jury duty, traffic violations, and an complicated eviction case for my parent's tenant that lasted an eternity. No, I'm not a felon... At least not that I know of presently. Ha! This is my first time coming to this courthouse in El Monte. I was able to make a same day appointment to see a clerk for a red light camera violation that I didn't know about until I got the ticket by mail. I wasn't there to seek advice, but rather was trying to figure out when my traffic school deadline will be since the City of Los Angeles Metropolitan Courthouse was so unorganized that they never tell me anything. So doing some research online for my case, I found out that I was able to go to another courthouse closer to home. The El Monte Courthouse seems more laid-back as well as more organized. It was not crowded while I was there, probably because it was already towards the end of the day. The clerks were very professional and courteous to serve you. They made sure your questions were answered, and they were not mean at all. Other courts I've been to, I've seen rude employees everywhere. In a way they make you feel like scum by their demeanors which I think is totally uncalled for and nothing is being done about it. Kudos to the El Monte Courthouse for being professional. Please stay that way even though I don't plan on going back. Plenty of parking in the structure at a cost. I got lucky to find a spot on the street. To be fair, I cannot give them one star or two stars even though they're government. I cannot give five stars because it's not by choice for us to go. So three stars is good. read more

Tip: $6 cash for parking. FYI: although they open at 8am, there is a line of people before you walk in, so if you want to be in and out of here, prepare to stand in line for 1hr max. I came here on a Thursday's morning, I got there like at 7:20am ish and there was already 6 people standing in line. 8am comes and doors open. You will need to go through security first, so try not to bring too much, you know? Then, once you're done with that you can go about wherever you need to go. I was there for a traffic ticket (speeding and tint), I didn't know where to go. I walked all the way down the hall and spoke to the "Information" desk by the elevators. The cop was pleasantly nice and helpful, he guided me to where I needed to go and told me exactly what I needed to do. I had to go to the traffic ticket line, to windows 1-3 because I needed an extension and also needed to request traffic school so I don't have a point on my drivers license. The cop I spoke to at the Information desk did tell me if I was just there to pay it I could just walk straight to window 5 (no one was at window 5, no line, nothing). While I was in line there was 5 people in front of me, it took 25 minutes for me to see the clerk on window 1. (It's 8:30am now), and she was nice, I told her I needed an extension and needed to request traffic school. She processed it and told me that I don't need to come back to pay the fine at window 5, that I can just do it online. I appreciate that information, I hate having to come to court. All in all it took 4-5 minutes and Bam! I was out at 8:35am. So it was easy and smooth once I knew what I needed to do and where to go. I like them though, even the greeter at the parking complex was nice. I am feeling under the weather and he told me in Spanish, to get better and take care. If you're going to have highway patrol sign off on anything, you'll also need cash or check in order for them to come out n check ur car. This was the only place I could find to even have someone sign off though-- I was directed to Dmv (no longer does it), highway patrol office (no longer does it) and finally found my way over here. Yowwwza. They don't make it easy to give em money 5$ to park?! To top it off, it's cash only! Don't know why they're surprised that I had to pay in nickels.. I mean, honestly, who cause carries cash anymore? Paying the court itself for additional fees, on the other hand, accepts cc. Essentially, make sure to come loaded w all cash or several ways to pay. Came here for Jury Duty, yay! Not. Tons of parking in the lot. Try finding a spot on the second level, because the court entrance is on that floor. Go towards the left to get through the metal detector screenings and such. There are no signs for where to go for Jury Duty, at least there were none when I was there. But once you leave the screenings, turn left and head down the hall until you see the elevators (on your right). Take it down to level B. Go towards the left out of the elevators and you'll see a sign. Bring a book or any sort of portable electronic device that will keep you occupied because there's a lot of wait time. If you want a snack, they have a 7-11 type stocked snack shop on the main floor where the entrance is. The courtrooms are up one level from the main floor and totally look like what you'd see off of Judge Judy's TV show. Our judge was really nice and friendly. I sat in the juror box for quite a while. They ask you a ton of questions and give you long breaks. I was dismissed after the second day, I didn't even say anything the second day! That was it for my first and only jury duty experience so far in my life. Oh, you get paid $15 a day for jury duty. But, you don't get paid for the first day of service. This courthouse is TERRIBLE. I came here at 8:30am to see my dad come back from jail and I was stuck waiting 7 HOURS. Then after waiting 7 hours they told me that he wasn't coming after all. All throughout the 7 hours we'd ask for information regarding which court room my dad would appear in and the ladies at the desks in the entrance knew nothing about it. They said they would update the incoming inmate list at 8:30, 10, 11:30, and 2. By the time it was 2 the inmate list on the tv screen in the waiting room was still at 8:30! ABSOLUTE JOKE AND A WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!! To top it off... they didn't even know when my dads next court time would be. Absolutely useless. read more

Ive never had any negative experiences at this court...I am disabled and they are very accomodating. The people that pat you down are respectful and very nice... they go out of their way to make you comfortable without compromising the security of the people inside. The judges and bailiffs have all been nice, if one respect's the court, they will respect you. Parking has never been an issue, its not free however but other than that...no issues. read more

I got here early at 7:30 am and nothing at the moment it's 11 am still nothing have us waiting outside. judge is always running "late". I live in moval and I must pick up my baby who has autism from school at 1:30. this is so unperfessional but if we were late we will get a warning or won't even get seen by a judge. they need to also have some type of consequence. read more

LA county should really start to work on their public service attitude. I was at the court 7:45 am to deal with a traffic ticket. I talked with an office lady the day before she asked me to stop by tomorrow 8:00am and let her know ahead of time so she can prepare my file for the 8:00 am court. (Star for the office lady) Today when I get here, I went into the court at 7:45am, see if I can talk to anyone to let the lady know that I am here she needs to prepare my file. talked with one of the securities and he explained to me that the court is not open yet. Then when I apologize to the guy and turning back out, the the second securities walks over start yell at me, GET OUT! WE ARE NOT OPEN YET. Yeah right, we should pay for this kind of public service with our tax money, I am here because a stupid cop give me a COURT DATE for window tint, the car is not even my car, simply because I am out of state resident and he feels the need to help the airline by ask me to appear in court for a driving someone else's window tinted car. However, both times that I have been obligated to waste my morning coming here not only was I out in under half an hour (amazing for anything in the justice system) but everyone was very helpful and informative. My only complaint is the halfwit Everardo the parking attendant who all but had me shot and arrested for asking if there was an ATM here. Someone who at least has a basic understanding of English should be working that position. I see alot of negative reviews on here but I don't understand why. Both times I came here my experience has been swift and easy. The line to get in moved quickly, the quickest I've ever been through. I encountered no trouble while there and the line for the clerks office was also very short. This was my first experience with the El Monte courthouse and after years of handling my tickets in the Pomona courthouse, El Monte is paradise. Parking is 6 bucks, cash only and very secure. Hopefully I will never have to go back to any court house for anything, but if I do, I hope that my ticket gets assigned to this one. Easiest court experience ever. read more

Their service was horrible! I was trying to get my case resolved and they didn't help at all! My case was about someone who stole my car. I had asked some lady to help me because well 1. This guy stole my car 2. He damaged it 3. They didn't help me get my money back that I had to pay out of pocket such as damaged fees and impound fees. I kept going back and telling them I need my case solved and my money back, she kept telling me I'll call you and let you know where you can go and get this resolved. She pretty much lied to me, never called me, and let this thief go. I was pissed off cause they never helped me get what this thief deserved and let him go for free. I went to this courthouse twice this week. 1st experience was 0 stars. I came in for questions regarding a restraining order. I got appointed to Mrs. Foster. This lady never attempted to help me. As soon as I started talking to her she discouraged me from filing anything. She said I didn't have a case. She was rude and clearly didn't wanna help me fill out the forms. She said if I were you I'd go to the police station. I found that with bad workers like her it's like a game of hot potato. Bad workers keep passing the potato (consumers) around because they don't want to help. I think it's the judge's call to decide if I have a case or not. The only thing I kindly asked of her was to do her job and answer a few questions I had about the paperwork. Instead I left the courthouse in tears. I still obtained a packet to try to fill out on my own even though she denied me help. It baffles me that this lady is the head of women and children protection (The security guard gave me her business card). In my job I'm a mandated reporter and the way she handled my case makes me wonder how many cases go unreported. Instead of advocating for me she basically said not to do anything. People like her are the reason why battered abuse statistics are all messed up. If we keep telling victims to be quiet how are we supposed to address the problem? I returned the next day and went to the clerk's office. I had filled out my forms to the best of my ability and fortunately I met an awesome staff member Mrs. Mariah. She was so kind hearted and helpful and kept me informed about the process. She changed my 0 stars to 5 stars. I ended up getting my order approved by the judge on that same day which shows me Mrs. Mariah went above and beyond to get all my evidence and paperwork turned in. She's amazing and she should be recognized for how great she is if she has not been recognized yet. She is super professional and I wish there were more workers like her. Just want to put it out there...no one wants to ever be in a courthouse. Of course it's not going to ever be a smooth time, but it is what it is. Parking is $6, cash only. Sucks, but it's the little inconveniences that makes life less painful. Trying to look for free parking around the area would be a nightmare. Besides, it's a small price to pay. Some of the employees and officers working there are helpful and did not give me attitude when assisting me. I came in recently for a fix-it ticket and the process went by smoothly. Yes, it did take a few hours out of my day to complete the process, but it's better than having my case referred to collections and having a warrant for my arrest. *Depending on the judge, if your courtroom is filled with people who do not understand instructions, you are going to be in that room for a very long time. After reading all these negative reviews before heading down to El Monte I was already expecting to have a bad experience. I was there to pay a ticket for my husband I got there around 10 am and it was empty to my surprise. Yes you have to pay for parking and its $6 not $5 anymore. I arrived there parked with no problem, walked in there was only 1 person in line at the cashier window. Payed the ticket and walked out in less than 20 minutes. I took way longer at the Bellflower court house. And no I don't work there and trying to give them good feedback. Am a casual person conducting business there. read more

Who likes court lol this was my first time dealing with a courthouse . I had to deal with a traffic ticket and was scared but today I finally saw the judge and he lowered my fee to $50 and dropped my other charge since I provided proof on both issues I was cited for and plead guilty . Talking to the judge in front of the other people waiting to be heard was a bit embarrassing but hey,gotta do what have to do to save $. It wasn't as bad as I thought and the deputy explained the rules prior to going in the court room. Basically the longest wait was the paperwork at the end of your arraignment. Felt bad for a few people as they still had to pay a bit as their cases were worse than mine but overall the judge was fair. It was interesting just people watching and hearing people's case till your name called . Learn some things about the law and justice system as well as people's individual circumstances which put them in the position of having to be in court. Not a fan of the parking issue! It's $6 (cash only)flat rate and since you may not know how long the wait will be you're forced to pay or risk 2hr street parking or some other spot that is a tow risk. It is "FRIENDLY El MONTE" the traffic window lines moves a little slow but they are super friendly and we had a nice conversation about none traffic related stuff. Would I go back. Mine was not that bad of an experience. Courthouse opens at 8am. I got there at 7:45am and there was a line but not terribly long. I got in, found my court room, verified my name was on the list and waited for it to open up. This was probably the longest wait which was 30 minutes. This session was packed and they line you up by your last name so it doesn't really matter to get there too early unless you want closer parking. They line you up and have you walk in and take a seat. Depending on your ticket you all eventually stand in front of the judge and plead guilty, not guilty or no contest. I was set on pleading not guilty for some BS ticket I got for allegedly failing to stop on a right turn but when I saw the judge cutting people's tickets in half for pleading guilty, I took it because my ticket was $500... I ended up paying $235. The deputies were cool, the judge was cool... hey! Better to pay $235 then risk paying over $500 if I lose and that BS cop shows up to my court date!! read more

So I had to call the court house to ask for an extension on paying for a ticket I have pending. So I gave a call to the Traffic Department and spoke to a woman (who never said her name) who sounded a bit annoyed. Here's how our convo went: Her: *answers phone* Traffic department Me: Hi I'm calling to get an extension on my traffic ticket Her: .....what? Me: *repeat myself* Her: Ticket number? Me: I'm sorry I dont have it I'm at work can I.... i was so confident that the so- called recession had not affected my profession or my wallet, that i attracted a second ticket within 18 months into my life. yes. california is buckling down on their drivers. cuz it needs some mo benjamins yo! i was pulled over due to the fact that i stopped for only ONE second at the stop sign as opposed to THREE seconds. (while my ticket was being written, i noticed a poor driver pulled over for not waiting long enough for the pedestrian to walk across the street). beware drivers in the el monte area. beware. 25 year old. female. ASIAN. self employed. student. two tickets within 18 months. yeah. insurance WILL skyrocket. so i had to go to this courthouse to ask the judge to grant me permission to take a TWELVE hour, in person traffic school. yep, that's how they rolled before internet and take home packets. first of all, parking is quite plentiful here. they've got a general parking section, a handicapped section, and a lowrider/classic impala section. people in there were g-to the ettttoooooo, if you know what i'm sa-saying. i was dressed up in a suit, because...well isn't that what you're supposed to do? but apparently the folks were in a get up most reminiscent of club wear. i had an appointment for 8:30 am. For some odd reason, I thought I had a personal date with the judge. I saw a person walk in with a stroller and followed her. there were at least 100+ people sitting there. the bailiff, a poochy, tired, mean man yelled, "espanol to the right, english to the left". this is one of those moments in your life, where you breathe a sigh of relief, knowing you avoided eminent disaster. long story short. we had to sit through EVERYONE's cases. it took a total of 4 hours. everything was very very strict, due to the high percentage cholos, gangbangers, hookers, etc. yeap. Some people had so many charges to their name, I tried to remember them all in the exact order as a way to pass time. As I was looking off into the distance i heard a strange whisper, "what YOU looking at BIIIIIIAATTCH, all dressed up and SHIETTT". oh. so charming. I finally get in front of the judge. I'm granted traffic school. and i get the fuck out. waited for my name on the intercom. paid the 64 dollars. had another passing altercation while I was passing, somewhere along the lines of "you FUCKING lawyers....!".....uh..thank you? Just a side note, the clerk office for traffic division, is literally right next to the Criminal division. maybe you can make some friends, you never know. why three stars? because it was relatively fast, (could've been 8+hours). the bailiff was strict, and kept most people in line. and i got my business done. slightly better then the dmv, but not by much. drive safely yelpers. and please. beware of the el monte ticket trap area(s). read more

I HATE THIS PLACE. It's depressing just being there, and they charge $5 for parking regardless how long you stay and what do you do there. I was trying to fight a traffic ticket and I was going to take 2 hours from work for it. This court clerk (or just a guy) didn't even finish taking attendence until 10am (from 8:30).He was the meanist, uglist and rudest human being. Just when I thought they were going to start taking the cases, they sent more people in, so it took another hour just to get those people to their proper places. Finally, the mean guy said he will try to get it started by 12, and get ready to stay there until 4. I was furious at that point, so I told him I'm not going to fight it since I needed to get to work I will just pay. He said good, pay at the cashier outside and come back show him the paper. There were over 100 people in line for the cashier and I was at the very end of the line................... I ran out of there and paid over the phone in the end. Horrible experience, nobody there is nice, I think they all hate their lives and they take it out on everybody.
