Great spot for quads & ATVs. It gets very packed near the main road so careful with kiddos. I like that they have bathrooms & picnic tables. There's a small fee for entering the area, I believe it was 15 bucks. read more

3.5 stars-( just saying) IF El Mirage would/could provided New decent shaded areas/rest points other than the pre-existing, would be awesome! - Friendly Reminder- Trash- If you pack it IN --pack it OUT!! My suggestion if you get lost: If you were to get lost, find the Dry lake bed and direct yourself to it. From there head to the main entrance road to find your way back to your camp location El mirage offers - " El Mirage must have a pass: daily ($15); weekly ($30); or Season ($90 - Oct. 1 to Sept. 30th" 4star- Been here several times for camping and for the day with family and friends. Great place to ride your dirt toys on trails or create your own or on the dry lake bed when allowable. I would suggest if your riding on trails or making new ones, ride always at least in pairs (safety first). Mother nature is beautiful but unforgiving. Bring your EZ-Up for shade, as natural shade is non existent. Some camp areas have metal canopy shade, but minimal, not enough. In SUMMER season please stay hydrated. It can gets very nasty hot. In WINTER season it's great during the day but as the sun sets it gets cold for sure. Enjoy & Stay safe! read more

Nice place to take your off road vehicles out and camp. Negatives people don't have any respect for your campsite of for the place. They leave there trash everywhere which is horrible also we were grilling dinner and people were doing donuts and riding super close so yeah burger and potato salad with a side of dirt on everything was one the menu. Next time we will camp on the dry lake bed instead maybe less people and headache. Other then that the trails are fun and riding on the dry lake bed was awesome. Early morning and evening rides are my favorite. Really pretty sunrise and sunset here. Also I never seen one ranger the entire Labor Day weekend. read more

Good place to ride your bikes with the kids or friends and family. I drove to this place without knowing nothing. Just grab my bikes my RV and my kids and away we go. Soon as we drove in the park rangers welcomes you politely. They don't cart you for bikes they don't give you hassle or turn you down. I park my RV ,set up started barbecuing with the kids enjoy the dirt bikes. No one gave us problems In anyway. You can do a bonfire ,Have music ans camp. We only went for a few hours and went home but next time I will definitely camp overnight. The only thing I didn't like was driving into the lake from the freeway. You have to drive through a broken road in trashy city before you get there. I felt that my RV was going to break down or leave my suspension behind with the terrible condition of the road.You better have big tires or 4 x 4 so you won't feel the hurt of your car breaking down with the cracks and bumps. Hopefully one day they could fix the road so you can Have a smooth ride. Overall we had a good time. read more

El Mirage Dry Lake is one of those vast expansive spaces out in the desert that is designated as a recreational area. The minute you arrive at this location you will immediately noticed that you have seen this space in more movies, more music videos, and more commercials than you can even count. I too have filmed many a movie at El Mirage. It is really a nice place. There's a few things you need to know before you go here, however. The first thing is, there's really nothing to do here. Basically, you go to El Mirage for a reason. Some people go here to fly their ultralight aircraft, some people want to lay around to get a suntan, of course there's a lot of photography and movie making going on. But, if you don't have your own idea about what to do here, there's really nothing to do. Also, when it's raining or it has rained recently, they will commonly close this space off. I am sure they have their reasons for this, most probably it is because they don't want people to get stuck in the sand or something like that. Overall, this is a fun expansive space that pretty much ideally encompasses the California desert. Plus, it is easy to drive to and you don't have to leave civilization too far behind. read more

we having going to el mirage for decades. But the bathrooms are so gross now. I know it getting dumped and t.p and other maintence. but even after the waste removed the toilets are caked with turds. It's being worst in last few years. We have toilet , generator everything for dry camping . But my husband doesn't want us use toilet because he doesn't want to go to dump station and spend extra money. We pay every time we go and have bought year pass. which one has pass for moths. we buy a pass and didn't know the next month it's another year. so 1 month but paid for a year. We know now.But I saw the wood around the toilets . But the bathroom made me vomit I can't help being a girl I can squat to pee but still for protection I put t.p around the lid. Please Please someone check the work being done. it's so bad and so unhealthy. And could there be some simple solar lighting in bathroom or around. And bathroom 8 north up Mountain View next to mountain the door won't even close all the way or lock. I don't want to get attacked. and their some strange folks out there like The Hills Have Eyes Movie. But can someone wear safty glasses and high pressure the toilets turds off the sides. I worked as a cna for 22 years and I changed soil adult briefs with urine and b.m but it's so bad and not only bathroom 8 we stop and go in and I can't take it I get nauseous and I'm 55 so I'm not pregnant . thank you read more

Beware of the wind storms!! This place is great when your pop up tent isn't being demolished by the strong winds. Be prepared. Tie your items down. Sand storms can hit out of no where and make you feel like you're in the mummy movie lol. If you don't like the dust probably not the place for you. Wide open spaces to ride. Came here to teach my girlfriend so it's cool when you're not being blown away. Bring lots of water and ice if you plan on staying the night. read more

Love this place. It's so big it has trails you can go on. You can camp over night or just come for the day. BBQ & have bon fires. It's a great place to get a way & have some fun with your dirt toys & spend time with your family. I have been coming here since I was a child & my father has been coming since he was a kid. The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) will have 2 racing meets at the dry lake in 2020. October 25, and the weekend of November 14 & 15. High winds or rain will cancel the meet. The SCTA has a sales trailer with cool t-shirts, posters, stickers, and other Land Speed Racing stuff. read more

This place has definitely gone down hill! They say it is regulated but it's not! Our last trip out we camped for the weekend with a group of 5 large rvs and our camp was overrun with 30 people pulling in not from our group, driving fast through our camp with small kids, no helmets, on quads too big. Called the ranger they did nothing. People leave trash everywhere and don't respect others. For a place you have to pay to play it's not regulated as such. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

Fun area to stay but the cost is expensive. The lakebed was amazing to watch the time trials. Sunrise and sunset spectacular to watch the colors of the skyline. Stars are so bright and the moon is so clear to see. Day area parking and camping is clean and tidy. Had fun riding the area. read more

I've been coming-out here for the past twenty years or so, primarily for the monthly land-speed racing events which take place on the lake bed from April to November. The BLM started charging for entrance to the area in 2008, which is about the time they built a large Visitors Center. As of November, 2014 the day-use fee is $15. A multi-day permit is $30 for seven days and I think they have an annual pass for $90. The riding in the area is not very challenging, though they do have some marked trails which wind through the hills to the north and west of the lake bed. Trails on the far-eastern edge of the lakebed are generally steeper and much more challenging. There's even some sand in that area as well. Camping on the lake bed is very plentiful and there are a couple of pit toilets spread around. More formal camping (with shade Ramada's) are available north of the lake bed, on the main road about a mile past the Visitors Center. Two quick tips: If you want to get away from the crowds on a non-race weekend, drive to the far western-edge of the lake bed and set-up there; most people who come for the day seem to set-up on the eastern edge of the lake bed, near the entrance and that area can get crowded. Second tip: When you buy your pass (day, week or whatever) buy it from the drive-thru window at the Visitors Center if it's open instead of the automated kiosks. You'll still need to have exact change but a small portion of your fee goes to the 'Friends of El Mirage' which looks-after the area. read more

I have literally been coming here since I was 3 years old. Rode my first motorcycle here. Anyhow....entry fee of 15 or twenty bucks is a deal. Plenty of terrain to ride. Sand, lake bed, wools, open desert, hill climbs. I imagine it can get busy but it seems there is plenty of room for everyone. I think you can camp but the use of firearms is prohibited. Last time I was there was an inch of water on the lake that made for spectacular photos. Don't ride on the lake if this is the situation out of respect to SCTA guys who race their cars here. riding on the lake bed wet destroys it!!! But I payed $15 fee entry and it says to go to window to give the ticket and Nobody was at window or even a Ranger in areas So what gives .. Been coming here for the last 2yrs to ride our quads. Seems like it's always our go 2 spot. Great place for kids. They have a nice kids training course for different riding levels "200cc & under" before they go out into the bigger trails or till they get comfortable enough. Rarely anybody on the kid track. It's conveniently close to the entrance & they have 2 restrooms off to the side. My favorite time 2 go is when the drylake is open because it seems like the regular trails are less crowded being a majority of people post up at the drylake. Best to call the day b4 just to make sure the lake is open. Yes it is $15 to get in & thats valid till noon the following day. Hey, what ever keeps the place clean & safe is fine w/me....actually taking the fam 2mrw, can't wait! read more
