This was the best rancheros that I have ever had, and I've eaten this favorite dish in different cities in the U.S. and in Mexico. This is quite a big restaurant incidentally open on Sundays. It was my first time here. Upon enteriing through the fancy doors, I saw very few patrons for lunch. The service was decent. We were seated right away. Chips, salsa and retried beans arrived within a few seconds. Chips was a bit cold and stale. Salsa was ok. Refried beans made me puke. I doused it with habanero sauce to induce some flavor. As for the main course, I ordered the three item combo w/ chicken. The burrito and the Chile relleno was fine but the chimichanga was this monstrous shell with stuff thrown in. Again no flavor...Sigh! If you like Taco Bell, then you will like this place. Awesome Mexican food! Seattle has a shortage of good Mexican food, so Yakima is a good alternative. The menu is expansive, food is very tasty, and portions generous. Their fried icecream dessert was delicious. The atmosphere is very festive with the brick and stone work on the walls, cactus chandeliers, and live Mexican karaoke. We arrived in Yakima at 10:00pm and this place was busy, with people still coming in. Its great that its open until 12! My only complaint is that its literally on the other side of the tracks. I'd come back to try other things on their menu. read more

I was quite disappointed with El Mirador. It was a recommendation from a friend who lives in Yakima. We later found out there is another El Mirador....so maybe we went to the wrong one?? But this one was NOT good. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because the margarita was large and good. I ordered the enchiladas banderas, however the server thought I said enchiladas rancheras and brought the wrong meal. She quickly fixed the error. But neither dish looked appetizing. My correct meal was just smothered in cheese. There was hardly any sauce, which is why I ordered it (a mole, crema, and tomatillo sauce on each enchilada). I didn't even eat my whole meal and immediately began to feel sick. My husand said his bacon wrapped prawns were okay, but later felt sick also. We were supposed to go see our friend after dinner, but felt so awful, we had to cancel. I cannot believe we spent nearly $50 on such awful food. There was also obnoxiously loud music being played in the room next to us. At first we thought it was a live band, but it wasn't. Just REALLY loud music that ruined our dining experience. My advice would be to save yourself the $$ and the stomachache. read more

I was here on business and decided to check out El Mirador. It was a Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 pm (I had skipped lunch) and to my surprise I was not the only late-luncher. The lunch special had ended at 3 pm, so I went ahead and ordered a 2 combination platter with a Tamale and Chile Relleno. While waiting, I was served warm refried beans, chips, and salsa - just enough spice but not too hot on the salsa. The 2 combination platter was huge! In fact, a slice of tomato topped with quacamole came without extra cost (bonus). My only disappointment was with the Chile Relleno - it was chewy. The egg batter was mixed with cheese and over-fried to the point it was chewy and tough - difficutly to get to the soft pepper inside. The tamale was only so-so (shredded beef). Tamale could have been a little fresher. Took the rice, beans, and chips home for a snack later. Overall, it is average tasting, nice decorative atmosphere, lots of food, friendly help, but perhaps just order a simple taco or burrito to raise the stars rating on this one. read more

This has to be the worst "Mexican" food I have ever tasted. Coming from seattle I feel Yakima would have tons of authentic Mexican places. This restaurant was far from it. I could possibly guarantee it. I ordered the enchiladas suizas, which were more like enchiladas verdes not what I was expecting. Suizas always go good with pork so I ordered the pork. I have never been so disgusted by any meat as I was this one. I have no idea where the hell they got this meat. It was SO NASTY. I can't even describe it. I am the type of person to just leave things if they have hair In it or if it has a bad taste just because I hate complaining. I was going to return my plate but when I cut into the other enchiladas it was chicken. A mistake on their part but it had no flavor. Better then tasting like rubber tires. Terrible food. Really bad. How do you mess up Mexican food? Leave it in the heater too long or something. It was awful. I ordered the pork with cactus and my friend ordered another similar dish. Both were dry to the point of crispy, and mine was actually burned. For the first time ever I complained at a restaurant. The waiter applied a coupon i didn't have and gave me $8.00 off, so i tipped him in cash and left zero tip on the card. This is not normal for me - it was that bad. This place is normally stellar, but things have changed. At least when it comes to service. Things started fine, we were seated right away, given menus and the usual chips and salsa. We asked for pico de gallo, never got it. Ordered, and then the food took about 25 minutes to arrive. Only once did someone come by to refresh drinks, and that was after we had run out. Then it took another 20 minutes for the waitress to notice we were finished. Granted she was serving a big party nearby, but that's when you send someone else to check on others. We had to ask for the check. When she returned with the bill, she put it down inside the boxes for leftovers. I said we should leave two cents for the tip, but we stuck by the minimum. Something seriously needs to change. May give this place one more try. If things don't improve, never coming back! read more

We were traveling through Yakima and searched for Mexican Food and this place popped up with great ratings. It happened to be happy hour.... so.....BONUS! I asked the waitress for 'her favorite' Pollo dish and she happily told me she would bring it. It was called the 'Pechuga de Pollo Fundido' and it was not only spectacular, it was HUGE. Took my wife there for dinner Saturday afternoon. Lots of parking And the restaurant was busy but we got right in. We were seated At a window overlooking the river. Nice view but the ac froze us out And we moved to another table. The service was excellent and the Wait person friendly. We soon got our food and it was very good. My wife noticed someone wandering thru the parking lot and I got Up three times and looked. When we left there was a bum laying On the concrete just outside the front door. Overall, this is one of the best restaurants in Yakima area in terms of value, quality of food, service and hours of operation. It is not the best Mexican food I have ever had, but it is quite good and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food and service are very consistent over time, and we have eaten here at least a dozen times during the past six months. If you are a local, they send some good coupons via mail. If I want to dine somewhere convenient and also want to leave feeling like I got value for the money, this is the place to dine. As of 4/25/13, I increased the rating from a 3 to a 4 star, after realizing that I eat here at least once a week, sometimes twice, and it occurred to me that, for Yakima area, this should be a 4 out of 5. They used have some of the best Mexican food in Yakima but something seems to have happened,. Not sure if they have new staff or if they have just let their quality suffer. Food tasted old, and it was cold. Normally they would be out the food and the plate would sound like sizzling bacon. All my plate sounded like was a ice cube. This place is excellent. They just opened a new location directly off of I82 in towards Terrace Heights. We have been there 3 times since the opening. Yes, the service is slow, but we have learned to expect this with new restaurants. It takes time to get the routine down. If you are expecting to be seated and served RIGHT NOW, then go someplace else. But if you are willing to be patient and want good food, this is your place. Give them time. They will get all the kinks out and be as great as their Walnut Street location. read more
