Don't go to Deming often but when I do this is the only place I'll go. Food is great and the service is amazing.

It's where the locals eat! Reasonable prices and the food is great! Went in for lunch. Breakfast is served all day, so my husband ordered breakfast. I ordered the Enchiladas with rice and beans. Our food was delivered to the table fresh and hot. More food than we could eat. Our sever was attentive, polite and efficient. The restaurant was clean and accommodating. I've made this place the "MUST STOP" on any trip across Interstate 10 since 2001. For 22 years, El Mirador never disappoints. Today my son Tomas enjoyed a breakfast burrito while I had to get the famous enchiladas & eggs. This is one of the rare moments when the food is even better than the memory. Yes, the cook nailed it! With just eight booths and four tables, the place does not look like much. Even the gravel parking lot may make some folks just pass on by. But trust me, that's going to be a big mistake. read more

Ok!!! Pay attention!!! Driving for hours and wanted to find a good place to eat, not a fast food place!! We found this small spot in this small town and it was NOT a disappointment!! I ordered burritos: 1 carne con chile verde, 1 egg and potatoes, 1 egg and chorizo, 1 bean and cheese! 2 coffees, I saw a picture of the burritos and they looked not too big and not too small! Just perfect size to fill you up and even share so I get to taste the other ones my husband had! The flavor is perfect! Home food!! The spicy green Chile was not too overwhelming and the flavor m/seasoning was perfect! The burritos were hot and did not look re heated but FRESHLY MADE! We were out doing errands, felt hungry, stopped at El Mirador for the first time. Beatriz greeted us warmly and had taken our orders within minutes even with a rather busy environment for this little cafe. My husband ordered the chicken chimichanga plate, I ordered the pork tamales plate - both come with beans and rice. We requested guacamole and sour cream with and received good servings of each. The ambience is friendly, local, neighborly. We left very satisfied. The two plates, two orange sodas and two coffees came to $39 and change. The menudo was fantastic. There was a lot of meat and the broth base was full of flavor. My husband had a basic chicken burrito and loved it. The chicken was tender and tasty but not soggy. They also have "jugos naturals" -the orange is freshly squeezed and is like drinking a freshly picked orange. Yummmmm. Fresh made cinnamon doughnuts- 4 for 250 are a nice treat too. Driving I-10 through the southwest can be a bit monotonous at times, especially for those not particularly fond of the desert scenery. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Deming, NM, though, get off the interstate and stop at El Mirador. Things will quickly get much more interesting. This small mom-and-pop place is located on the south side of the main drag, about a quarter of a mile west of Wal Mart. Don't let the dirt (or mud, depending on the weather) parking lot scare you away. Just drive up carefully and prepare yourself for a delicious dining experience. We have stopped here many times, and the food and service are always fabulous. Our favorite - huevos rancheros smothered in green sauce - is available all day long. If you order this for lunch or dinner, it will be accompanied by chips and salsa, and you will be offered sopapillas afterwards...we never have room. The green sauce is about the best we've had - very flavorful with a nice bite to it. It comes with potatoes and beans on the side, but I usually just get potatoes, which are delicious pan-fried (but not greasy) potatoes. A side of corn tortillas and a glass of delicious horchata, and I am set! On occasion we opt for the carne asada burrito, which is equally delicious. I can't eat the flour tortillas, so I just have them put the meat and grilled onions on a plate. Smothered in green sauce and with corn tortillas on the side, this is an amazing meal. read more

Third visit. Probably last. Service is just barely awake. It seems regulars get better service. The chile is not that interesting. Only one waitress this day. Woman who was coming in and out of kitchen didn't seem the least bit interested in helping out. She set down with one of the customers and gabbed the whole time. We never had a refill of coffee, the waitress forgot the water and beverage orders besides. They are other places to eat in Deming. Places need to make an effort before people spend their money. read more

We have stopped at this restaurant three times and every time I'm thankful we found it again. It opens early around 6am and closes at 2pm so you have to get there early but it is so worth it. We head back in January and that will be a different stop. If I could give it 10 stars it's that good. read more

Fillings: boom. five types, all good. favorite? carnitas, which was such the fatty cutlet of whole pork belly to rival the most overpriced hipster progmex fusion in Silverlake. Service/ambiance: holy eff. perfect for such a right-priced menu, and a cook that cares (obviously). plus, 90s era mexican daytime shows blared and the servers giggled and texted. We stopped here during a very long road trip through the Southwest, so perhaps we were somewhat tired and jaded. That being said, it is even more impressive to me that this place struck us as having the best pozole ever constructed on this side of the Rio Grande. Incredible, fabulous, delicious. Also, their caldo de pollo was rich and salty and delicious -- canonical, really. The kids ate whatever (who watches? who remembers?) and the atmosphere was local roadside American bland, but the food! We'd go back. Also, our server, Miryam, was lovely -- solicitous without being cloying, charming, friendly, and fast. Service, I mean. Oh Yelp. You let me down this time. After driving long hours from Austin, we were ready to stop for the night in Deming. I think we should have kept driving. Being from Austin, we know Tex-mex. "Mexican food" is just "food" to us, and we eat it almost every day. We were ready for some authentic New Mexican food and looked up reviews here and Trip Advisor. El Mirador had a few bad reviews but mostly positive. Upon entering the restaurant, we had second thoughts. Its a run down looking fast food joint turned restaurant and we sat right in the middle, awkwardly, with every patron facing us and it was just so QUIET in there. Kinda strange. We ordered drinks (my husband really wanted a beer after that long drive, but no alcohol). They came in all forms of cans and bottles. Menu was standard. I ordered gorditas, mom and husband had cheese enchiladas, kids had omelette, chicken nuggets, and burger. Food arrived and EWWWWW those enchiladas. Literally, it was a lukewarm plate of a corn tortilla sprinkled with cheese, another tortilla laid upon the top, a heavy-handed ladle of greenish chicken based gravy (with ZERO spice) on top of that, and a little sprinkling of cheese. Seriously it looked so unappetizing on the plate and it tasted worse. No way were these rolled by hand and baked at all. Really gross. Even the beans and rice weren't good. So bland and also not hot. Kids food was similarly nasty. Chicken nuggets straight out of a freezer bag, into the microwave, and onto the plate. Perfectly round and perfectly inedible. Omelette was OK, just some eggs and bacon, but the grease-slick potatoes were bad. Burger was just, well, a burger. My son eats it totally plain and I think he got through half of it. My gorditas were ok. The shredded beef inside was actually flavorful, but again, the beans and rice on my plate were bad. Lets talk about those chips. They were really thick and cracker-y, if that's a word, and tasted like old grease. Sad. I kept looking forward to the "free sopapillas" at the end of our meal, but none were offered. Oh well. Am I spoiled to awesome Mexican food because I live in Austin? I guess so. Would I ever recommend Deming's El Mirador to anyone (the lady at the hotel did)...? NO. My mom said it was the worst food she has ever had. That is saying something. On top of the food being subpar, the total bill was outrageously expensive for what we had. It was the first night of our vacation and a giant waste of time and money. Deming, what else do you have to offer? We missed it. read more

If the table chips and sauce would have been better I would have given 4 stars. 5 of us dined for lunch. The Carne Asada Burrito was huge and very good. Combo #2 every thing was good. Gorditas plate also good. Chicken Fried steak was good to a 13 year old girl. Food was fine, server was very good. Weakness bathroom door had not been cleaned in ages, grease on door. Weakness I felt was table sauce, green and too hot for some, chips were thick and tough, not crispy. The sauces red and green were ok and typical for area, nothing special. Old dated building but to be expected in Deming. Nice waitress. Soda is only in bottles and maybe cans. No fountain drinks, they are cheaper for restaurant and generally better liked by customers. read more
