We haven't been here in a while and went back today and still 5 star. We got seated immediately when we came in and they were pretty busy. I ordered steak Santa Fe as well as my daughter. My husband ordered Mexicana burrito and my daughter's boyfriend ordered shrimp. Food came out really quick hot and tasty. Our waitress was super sweet and I had a sangria, my daughter had a nonalcoholic frozen drink. Her boyfriend had a soda my husband had a beer and our whole order with everything came to $90.! my husband and daughter also had an appetizer the Mexican street corn. between ordering and our food coming out, the chips went fast fast because they're so delicious but one of the managers walked by said would you like some more chips and brought them over? Ordered Fajitas Jalisco. Except for the 4 shrimp, the chicken, beef, and vegetables were chopped into tiny pieces. There was maybe one ounce each of the chicken and beef. I was out of town this weekend, and needed a quick lunch. Since I did not have access to a car, I hopped on DoorDash to find something that could be delivered quickly. El Mazatlan Restaurant came through! After reviewing the menu, I decided to order a Fajita Taco Salad Lunch plate. I have NEVER had a Fajita Taco Salad Lunch that was in a bowl that looks like a huge taco!! So the presentation was impressive - let's talk about the taste. This taco salad was packed with flavor and delicious. The tortilla that was deep fried in the shape of a "stand and stuff" taco was super crispy. There were big chunks of grilled onions and bell peppers, along with slices of seasoned grilled chicken, topped with cheese sauce, lettuce, and pico de gallo. This all was topped with a scoop of homemade guacamole, and a scoop of sour cream, Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch! The chips and salsa served on the side was underwhelming (the salsa tasted too much like tomato and did not have any spice at all), but the Fajita Taco Salad made up for that in spades! In the middle of Bowling Green right off the interstate, there is this Mexican restaurant. I was recommended and ordered the steak fajita burrito and it did not disappoint. We ordered food to go, and the staff was so friendly that took our order. He knew I wasn't from town so he gave some suggestions of places to go see. I've grown up going to El maz most of my life. Their food is still one of my favorite, but recently they've adapted a culture of rushing you through your meals. I came here with a party of 10, and not once did the server come back to refill our water or ask if we need anything else. Instead, they came back with the check right after giving our food, cashed out and disappeared. I wish this was a one off situation, but this has happen both in the Cumberland and Fairview locations. If they just gave us time and asked us if we wanted another drink then we would have easily spent another 200$. I understand if the restaurant was full but we were the only people in the back with plenty of open tables. Just disappointed because I love this restaurant but the service has gone down hill. Just moved our daughter to Bowling Green for a new job. We were in the mood for some Mexican food. This one was just off I-65 on Cumberland Trace Rd. Not too far from her apartment. So, off we go! Two out door patio areas, and they weren't that busy. We opted for outdoor seating as it wasn't scorching hot. Our waitress, Shannon, was quick to the table, got our drink order and another girl brought us chips. We ordered the Sangarita. A margarita with a little attachment that pours a small bottle of Sangria into your glass. Good stuff. I think I would've/should've gotten it frozen instead of just ice, but hey, there's always next time (and there will be!!) I ordered the Burritos Potrillo Two flour tortillas wrapped around grilled shrimp, steak, chorizo, broccoli, pineapple and jalapeno. Topped with ranchera sauce and cheese dip. Served with rice. Seems like an odd mix of stuff, but It WORKS!! And a large portion, too. I could only eat half. (Even warmed up the next day, made a great lunch!) My wife had the #1 combo: . One taco, two enchiladas and rice. she was quite happy with it, and, it was big enough for leftovers, too. Daughter had the Chef Special: A bed of rice, topped with grilled chicken and cheese. She was quite happy with it since she had taken a liking to a dish in Nashville at a restaurant near her school. She said this was perfect and she'll be a regular there. Our waitress was good on checking up on us and was pleasant talking with us after we told her about our daughter moving there. She gave us some tips on places to see and things to do. But, importantly, she did her job quite well. I visit Bowling Green somewhat regularly as I travel and have a few accounts there. When you order to go you don't get what you ordered paid 41$ for two meals and didn't even get one full meal. Especially when ordering a special you think the few things in their menu they could get right very disappointed. Not to mention it was awful as far as flavor goes. But when we got the bill they charged us for all adult quesadillias and they asked me why I was complaining bc my grandkids are 7 and 10 in no way they are adults. We just moved here and I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant and this place was great! It looks nice and clean and new and my son loved the fish. The chips and salsa were just ok but the fresh food made up for it. They use more fresh ingredients than I've seen in most Mexican restaurants and it tastes delicious! We will be back! read more

I was visiting here and my local family wanted to go to this restaurant. I am from SE Michigan but we have much better Mexican food offerings. I felt the portions were small and the food just so so. Service was okay. He was very busy so I have given him something of a break since another person shuttled the food and it was hot. Never came back to see if we were happy and if we needed a refill. I love this place. I was one of the first customers after it was converted from a fish fry. There is literally nothing on the menu that is bad. The staff is absolutely fantastic and recognize repeat customers as if they are family. Certain servers are my favorite and the managers always greet us. This is your typical "Authentic" Mexican restaurant here in the midwest. It is really a mix of TexMex and Americanized Mexican foods, with little that is anywhere near authentic. The over-use (or use at all) of shredded ice-burg lettuce, sour cream and shredded cheese should be your clue. Those who rated this at 5-stars; meaning "above all excellent" - have not considered what that rating means, or do not know dining in general. Overall it rates a two-star for food. This is NOT five-star dining folks!! I ordered the crab quesadilla for 10$,, it was worth about a dollar. There were a few pieces of imitation crab meat mixed with gooey melted cheese, onion, and green pepper. (I dont remember the disclaimer that this was not real crab meat on the menu) Took two bites, looked inside - and set it aside. Told the server it was horrible, but it was not taken from the bill. I will eat about anything, but this looked gross and was just Bad. Got a fish taco instead. Lame as well. Smothered in ice-burg lettuce and a little cheese. Edible. Was excited to try the newest El Maz as I'm a fan favorite but I was incredibly disappointed! The food tasted a little off. They forgot half of our requests including lemons, shrimp, drinks, queso, etc. the waiter made inappropriate jokes as soon as we got to the table and pressured us to buy alcohol multiple times- even the person driving. The waiter then disappeared and we were given a new waiter who did not introduce herself. Then As we checked out the manager did not take our coupon and laughed at us. In real need of margaritas and good company, so I decided on this place. Convenient location and portion size is a lot of bang for the buck. Food was better than expected, and probably the best chain restaurant rice I've had. Was not a fan of the salsa, as it is thin and I like my salsa chunky. Had the chicken fajitas and they were delicious. Service was great and the patio where we sat was perfect and uncrowded. Minor things that kept this from 5 stars?
