A lot of the places around cedar crest where closed so we decided to try this place on a whim. My boyfriend ordered the Mariachi burger and I ordered the combination plate. After about a 30 minute wait, everyone else in the restaurant received their food before us. When we got It the food looked very promising at first but my boyfriend quickly realized the bacon and patty where burnt on his burger. The Chile relleno on my plate was so burnt I couldn't eat it and it tasted like blood, and the refried beans were completely dry and tasted like they had been out for awhile. Awful for the price, and I don't even know why anyone would rate this place higher because I have never had such a negative experience at a restaurant such as this. Nothing to complain about their food, it's really good! BUT it's the hours. I swear they change on a daily basis! Please be consistent and show up at the set time to open. On more than one (like 5) occasion, we've gone for breakfast only to find out they're not open till 10 am or 11 am or 9 am or ... and today as we drove there only to find out it's 1130 am! we have been going to El Mariachis since it opened in Cedar Crest. Our neighborhood and surrounding areas came together to give them business during COVID. The food is always great and service used to be spot on. We order pickup from them almost every weekend but recently there has been a young man taking phone orders and working the cash register who is rude, surly and unhelpful. He hung up on us twice one evening and then forgot us on hold when we finally got back through. We opted for Trailrider Pizza that night. We have always tipped very well however he is now ruining this for the whole crew. When I have to deal with him the tip goes way down and we think twice before ordering from them now. read more

Tucked away in a strip center it could easily be overlooked. Nice comfortable dog friendly patio. We started our brunch with chips and salsa. My husband had Huevos Rancheros which was authentic in appearance. He stated they were delicious with a very tasty red sauce. He isn't a fan of green sauce I would recommend the the green sauce which I had on my Breakfast Chilaquiles. I had my eggs prepared fried and was not disappointed. The food here has never disappointed us. The gorditas, Chile rellenos, mini tacos, fajitas, and chips and salsa are all fantastic. It's unfortunate, however, that the service is hit or miss. Will continue to eat here occasionally but more likely as takeout rather than dine in. read more

My wife and I felt like Mexican food, and remembered friends recommending El Mariachi, located next to Ribs on North 14. I ordered a carne asada burrito with christmas chili. My wife had cheese enchalada's with christmas as well. The food, and service was really good. Food was fresh, hot, and had great flavor. I want to love this restaurant because I live in Cedar Crest and the main guy here (owner?) is so incredibly nice. The menu has really great options and there aren't that many restaurants in Cedar Crest (or the East Mountains in general), so I would love it if this place was worth 4 or 5 stars. But the food is good, not great. (Mole is way too sweet, breakfast burritos have a weird metallic taste, the chili rellenos are good but something is missing...) But my biggest concern right now is that the staff has decided to ditch their masks. Covid-19 is on an upswing again in NM. We've been dining in places more and more because we want to support local businesses and restaurants in general. But if the cooks and wait staff aren't wearing masks..? Being put on hold for almost 10 minutes while waiting to place my order is NOT acceptable. I dont care how "busy" you are. I'm on the phone the entire time I am driving to this place. There literally two other customers in the place. May have been a party outside on the patio. I express my disappointment at being put on hold for 10 minutes. Response. "We are really busy". Two people in the place. I suggest that such a response, when this isn't the first time this has happened, and telling me to place my order on-line and not to be mad... no, you haven't seen mad yet. Then to tell me I'm a welcome to go elsewhere... hmmm now I am mad but I got hungry kids waiting for tacos so I order tacos and wait 10 minutes to get my order... Get home, thrown together tacos with ground beef. He askeg me three times and I said three times shredded beef... three times. Tacos immediately fall apart and require a fork to eat. Quality of food, presentation and customer service is non-negotiable for me. I have worked in the food industry and small business and entrepreneurial development... this is NOT the customer experience you should be presenting to the public and not one expects when eating out has become so expensive. Yes, there are few options on the green side of the Sandias but I won't be insulted by a smarmy response to a complaint and bad food. Especially when it's not the first time. I'm giving it full stars because the food is crazy delicious. Last time we got burgers. Wanted Burger Boy but they were closed and kinda glad they were. We split a burger here and order of fries. Tried El Mariachi in Cedar Crest for the first time today, yummy shrimp soft taco, also had a steak fajita soft taco they were both excellent! The corn and flour tortillas were fabulous - seemed homemade. Fantastic salsa, friendly fast service. So glad to have a good Mexican food place out here, as our local restaurant options are limited...We often describe food out here as, "OK for this side of the mountains," this place is great! SO happy to have this great little Mexican open up. We ordered 3 Fajitas to go for dinner (we got one of each: steak, chicken, and shrimp).
