My brothers and I stopped by this restaurant after six hours traveling from Northern Illinois to go through the Bourbon Trail. The restaurant was an easy walk across the street from our hotel. The food we ordered all tasted great! The water was served in carafes, with a long straw, rather than a glass. Since it was a hot day, we were all thirsty, so the water was fine. My one brother and I ordered a draft of beer. The server asked if we wanted the tall glass. We both said, "sure, you bet." The server brought out these 48 ounce glass mason jars full of beer. If you like beer and you're thirsty, these are awesome. I ordered the Mahi Mahi Sreet tacos. The tacos tasted great, but I presumed the meal came with rice and beans, but it did not. An absolutely fantastic place! We can't recommend it highly enough. We were passing through town on a road trip and we were looking for a place for dinner. El Maguey was recommended to us by the manager at our hotel and we could not have been happier. The food was spectacular - I had the mariscos street tacos and my wife had the mahi mahi tacos - both were wonderful. There happened to be live entertainment and it was great. The atmosphere was wonderful and the waitstaff was the best. Everyone was extremely helpful and happy. Our waiter, Royer, was incredibly nice, helpful, and friendly. You couldn't ask for a better waiter - or a better restaurant. HIGHLY recommended! read more

We were out of town and this restaurant was across the street from the hotel we were in. We decided to give it a try based on the review. It was horrible. The-waiter did not understand English and the food was not even close to decent Mexican cuisine. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Waste of my hard earned money. read more

My family and I showed up for dinner at 6:10. There was 3 adults and 7 children. We were told :30 minutes, but should probably expect :40 to be safe. After :45 we asked and was told "maybe" another :15. After :30 more minutes we asked again and we're told "sorry we are short staffed and not sure how much longer it would be". I mentioned that I saw multiple parties of 4-6 coming in since we checked in and asked why they couldn't have put a table together for us. About :10 minutes later we were finally seated and after about :45 minutes we got our food and none of it was great. It was good, but nothing I couldn't have made at home. Presentation wasn't the best and so on. Took forever to get our checks. Finally after 2:45 minutes we were able to leave. For a newly opened restaurant I thought they would be more prepared for business, but they weren't even half seated in there read more

I will never go back to this place again!!!I waited 20 minutes to get seated even though the dining area was half empty. I waited 30 minutes to get asked what I want to drink and then another 30 minutes to take my order! That worst part was I waited a hour just to get my appetizer!!! The most horrible experience I've ever had. Came here with my family, waited for a table for 20 minutes which isn't a big deal. We got to our table and waited another 30 minutes for someone to ask us what we wanted to drink.... then on top of all that we waited an hour and half for our food. Food comes all wrong and completely undercooked. There was the five of us, everyone received there food but me. I call the waiter and they never put my order in. I was eating my food last since it took another 20 minutes to get my plate. I am never ever coming here again. The most horrible service ever. Never In my life have I experienced something like this. I am also in the restaurant industry and if you can't find people who have experience in this industry you should just close. We are native to the southwest and have a very hard time finding decent Mexican food east of west Texas. We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant as the food was terrific and the atmosphere, including line music, was very enjoyable. The cold beer and very good prices certainly helped as well. If we lived in this area, we would frequent this restaurant! read more

This place used to be superb when it first oepened but has gotten worse each time we have come back. Wait staff us not trained, cant speak english, and the smell of septic is not appetizing. Unfortunatrly, this will be our last visit! read more

Heard great reviews about this place but this was a total disappointment. The salad was missing several ingredients with wilted lettuce and wrong dressing. Ordered a burrito and the wrong one came out. The manager didn't know what ingredients belong in a burrito and had to show him the menu. Very small portion of carne asada. I read awesome reviews about this place on Facebook so I was excited to try it. I really wanted to love this place but I am sad to say I will never ever go back. From the beginning , we walked in and the decor was really cool and modern. The location is a little strange but that's not a big deal. We had 3 adults and 2 kids. This is where it all started to go wrong. First, the host tried to seat us at a 4 seater table that only had 3 chairs. I said umm I think we need a bigger table... so he brings us to a 6 seater table. The waitress came over and took our drink order. It took probably 10 minutes to get 3 sodas and two pink lemonades. The sodas come in a RIDICULOUS pitcher that is so huge that it swallows up the oversized straw they give you. The salsa is awful- it has some sort of chipotle pepper flavor in it or something but that is all you taste. Other than that, it's flavorless. I actually didn't even eat more than 1 chip of it. Then we order the food and it took over 30 minutes for the food to come out which is like triple the time a Mexican restaurant should take (there were two other tables in the whole place at that time so it's not like they were busy. And they seemed to have adequate staff). My fajitas came out and all I got was the chicken and veggies on the skillet. No rice, no tortillas, nothing. (This also had that same off putting chipotle flavoring) So I sit there another 10 mins while everyone is eating and finally our waitress passes by so I grab her to ask if mine came with anything else and she said yeah and proceeded to serve another table. No apology , nothing. So she gets the sides about 10 mins later and still does not apologize. Throughout the meal nobody came over to ask how the food was or if we needed anything. My mother in law got a shredded chicken burrito in her combo and the chicken was soooo dry it was inedible. Again, I really wanted to like this place but I will never go back. Unfortunately I do not think they will survive especially since the location isn't super convenient but the service was just awful and the food was too. read more

we were there for lunch, my husband had taco's, since it was taco tuesday and my stomach wasn't feeling very good so i got a cheese burger and fries. let me tell you, the mexican food is always delicious , but my burger and fries had to be the best i have ever had. you don't know what you are missing until you go to El Maguey. good family atmosphere and good food. read more

Looooooove this place. It's beautiful. The food was so good, my husband actually cried a little. (He had the molcajete.)

We were visiting from out of town and had a great experience. The staff was very friendly and checked in often to see if we needed anything. Individual salsa dipping bowls was a nice touch.
