    Bibimbap
    Myca C.

I wasn't even hungry...I needed gas for my old ass Jeep... But Jack Johnson called my name from an impressively loud speaker. I thought about the bibimbap, but's it's been done before; I've had it plenty of times. I thought..."how could you make a quesadilla really really well? Impossible...it's for Taco-bell types. Damn...that quesadilla was so evenly done...it was practically sacred geometry. The cook asked how to pronounce "myca" properly and I had so much respect for that. Most people just give up and say "Michael". I did not pick my own name after 17 years just to be called "Michael". Long story less long... fuck, that was delicious.

    Half Korean/ Half Mexican!

Hard not to love a good food truck and this is a good one. Had three tacos (pork, chicken and beef) along with a side go kimchi. Cheap great food! the kimchi has a nice kick and the tacos were fresh and just the right size. Add this to the Wedge brewery and you have a great match. We will stop at this truck again.

Woah. This truck was at New Belgium Brewery the day we came to visit, and we are Korean/Japanese/Thai food junkies, so obviously between El Kimchi and a grilled cheese truck, we went straight for the bibimbap. I really love how light this was. It seems like a ton of food, but bibimbap is universally a little bit of meat, a little more rice, and lots of fresh veggies, topped with an egg. I know this isn't popular opinion, but I hate heavy food when I'm drinking beer - it makes me feel weighed down and gross. So this bibimbap was PERFECT - a good amount of food for us to share, but didn't make us feel greasy or heavy. Perfectly cooked egg, well seasoned bulgogi beef, crisp, fresh veggies, and a killer sriracha sauce on top. This was A+ food truck deliciousness. Would not hesitate to track these guys down, wherever they are set up, next time we're in Asheville!

I love Korean food, Mexican food, and food trucks, so the fusion of all those was kinda perfect in my eyes! :O I spied them on my way to the hostel I was going to be staying at, so I walked over after I'd checked in and settled my stuffs down. Service was very polite and friendly. :] I had the bulgogi beef tacos (3 street-style tacos) for ~$7 (if my memory serves me correctly) since I wasn't feeling extremely hungry. They also have bibimbap, rice bowls, kimchi, burritos and hot dogs though! If you can manage to track this truck down (I think you can probably find out where they'll be on facebook--I saw em' again by the River Arts district the following morning!), I'd recommend giving it a try! :]

Best dumplings I've ever had! This truck was outside of New Belgium Brewery and the post came before the beer.

Got a chance to check this well reviewed food truck out while it was parked in front of the Brew Pump. The peeps that run the truck are laid back and super cool - I was psyched to try some of their Korean Mexican fusion. I had tried one of each - Spicy Pork , Bulgogi Beef and the Chicken - I think the platter ran me about $8 - about average for a food truck. The Buglogi and Chicken were just okay. The best of the bunch was the spicy pork - really stand out flavor. I think it was a combination of the "plain Jane" toppings of shredded lettuce and chopped tomato with the standard soft taco wrappers/shells that kept the food from blowing me away. Would love to see some creative toppings to complement the proteins. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing - or maybe I just need to have them smothered in Kimchi. Next visit I'll try a rice bowl or a burrito and give you guys an update. Do love the boom box and the intercom they use to call your name! And they're never parked far from good beer!

Went on the tour at New Belgium and got buzzed, then got hungry. Saw El Kimchi outside and had to get something. I ordered the burrito with bulgogi. It was above average. The tortilla was awesome, warm, crispy but chewy. The fillings were mostly rice and lettuce with some beef. My buddy got the hotdog and that is by far the best thing on the menu although my other buddy claims the pork taco was the best. I really wish I had a second stomach because I would've loved to get a hotdog and pork taco afterwards. Authentic Korean flavors melded will with Mexican fare. And the owners are definitely Korean. I think there may be a language barrier at times, so please don't mistake them for being rude! Definitely check this place out!

One Korean food review deserves another right? I had a chance to check out El Kimchi last week, and I'm happy I did. I opted 3 tacos, 2 beef and 1 pork. I started with the pork and was quite pleased, but as soon as I bit into the beef taco I felt like a sucker. I should have ordered a beef burrito with an extra side of beef, dipped in beef, wrapped in beef. The beef is that good. Seriously, words can describe just how wonderful, tasty, and well prepared it is. It's a fairly mobile truck, so tracking it down can be a chore, but it's well worth it. I also highly suggest adding "Caramelized Kimchi" to whatever you order, it's a wonderful addition.

I also loved that they carry cool locally made items. I went with the chicken biscuit with gravy and the French toast. The biscuit was square-shaped and generously sized, and it was delicious, though the gravy was not quite my thing. The French toast was a winner, not too sweet and topped with fresh fruit, which was a lovely touch. The latte deserves a special shoutout because it was fabulous. Service was relatively fast, and I also appreciated the large community table. It is perfect for chatting with friends or even striking up a conversation with strangers. I was starving and saw their booth and a chalkboard of menu options I've never tried or heard of before. I approached and when asked what I would like, I was honest that I was unfamiliar with their cuisine but I trusted them. They asked how I wanted it and I said "how you would eat it! They made me the most incredible meal that has ever passed my lips. I followed Habibi Village on their Instagram so I could chase that high- and boy did I. I NEEDED more of that unique deliciousness. But I was saddened that I was only able to get their Za'aatar once or twice a week and had to travel to multiple spots around the city to a variety of markets and at such limited hours. It is with all of the joy in my heart to support Habibi Village at their brick-and-mortar location as they have grown to a full time spot. Their owner absolutely POURS his soul and spirit into this business and into every meal he serves the community. Plenty of restaurant owners love what they do and love their patrons but this owner stands above and beyond when it comes to passion. This gentleman cares about his food and his patrons on a deep and genuine level that you feel and taste. I clearly can't praise Habibi Village enough. Thank you for what you do for our community and our bellies!

One thing on the menu caught my attention: "Moink balls," which were described as bacon-wrapped meatballs. When I asked the server what kind of meat was in them, he told me they were out of Moink balls. I said okay, but asked if he could still tell me what kind of meat was in the meatball. He seemed very annoyed by the question, said "meat," when I pressed him, he said that he didn't know. We ended up ordering pulled pork, ribs, roasted corn, and mac and cheese. The food itself was good, and I especially liked the corn. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite get past the way that server responded to what seemed like a simple and reasonable question.

It was highly regarded before that, and offers to make many of its menu items vegan. I was a tad disappointed that the bar promised some non-alcoholic hop water options but didn't seem to have any in stock, which may relate to the storm as well. This food truck, however, delivered the goods. It is not a speedy process, and when I tried visiting before they sold out of food before the end of the day so I came early this time. They give you a buzzer so you can wander around and order drinks. When my tofu arrived, it was mouthwatering. The amount of rice was quite large, but this was some aromatic rice, and the tofu itself tasted like high quality stuff and was bathed in an herbal, spicy flavor that I imagine is about as close to Thailand as you could get in Asheville. It was a lot of money for a modestly sized disposable bowl of food, but the quality merited a visit. I doubt I could have found myself eating anything more delicious. Cassia is definitely one of the top ones. This is some of the best and most original Thai food I've ever had. They are a regular at Cellarest Beer Project in West Asheville. The food is prepared fresh, but the wait is not too long. And if you sit in the right spot, you may be able to enjoy the fragrant scent of Thai food as it is being prepared in their mobile kitchen. We started with the Firecracker sweet potatoes. These amazing little jewels are mashed sweet potatoes wrapped in the same coating as you'd normally have with a spring roll or won ton. They had a wonderful crispy outside with a flavorful sweet potato mash inside. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was excellent, but we also loved dipping these into the golden curry sauce that came with our curry duck. Where do you ever see curry duck BTW? The duck was cooked perfectly and not at all grisly or chewy. The curry sauce was absolutely incredible. Great flavor along with a nice kick. Between eating the duck and jasmine rice with the curry sauce and dipping some of the Firecrackers in it, there was literally not a speck of curry sauce left behind. We also had chicken Laab Gai. The mint leaves in this were really tasty and not overwhelmingly minty. The sticky rice was good. These came with cabbage leaves that you can roll the meat and rice up in to create a sort of Thai taco. This was good, but not at the same level as the duck curry. Maybe a bit more sauce would help. Prices are restaurant level but well worth it given this is restaurant-quality food or better. We paired the food with two fine beers from Cellarest. The Czech-style Moonglade Tmave pivo had great character. The Weald Oktoberfest Marzen lager was also excellent. Both went very well with the Thai food. Apart from maybe the dead of winter, this will be a place we go back to for more great Thai food.
