Good little local spot! I ordered the shrimp in red sauce and it took a long time to arrive. Was packing the spice I'm used to but it was a good flavor. Staff is very sweet, I just wish they had spicy salsa. Everything they offered was mild and the jalapeños had no spice. Will return and try other dishes read more

STAY AWAY! I am usually one to love "hole in the wall" type of Mexican joints however this is one that's should be avoided! We walked in and waited for over 5 mins, noone seating or greeting, so we seated ourselves & finally were greeted by a waitress. The "salsa" was jarred picante sauce (nasty!) I ordered shrimp nachos & it came out with barely a drop of beans on them only 5 dried mini overcooked shrimp and barely melted cheese. I gave it back & instead of an apology or offer to remake it, I was asked if I wanted something else after she looked at my plate and shrugged her shoulders. The food was not good. I hate saying that, as it seems like a small business. The food was comparable to microwaved meals you'd get from the frozen section of a grocery store. Very low quality, no flavor, and didn't look or taste good in general. Maybe we caught them on a bad day? I don't know, but it was bad enough where I won't be trying it again. read more

Was in town for a a family members sporting event, and we decided to give this place a try. It is in a shopping center, and a hole in the wall - but don't let that stop you! We immediately had a table, and service within seconds & the service was continuously good the entire time. I loved, loved, loved the salsa & chips. The chips were warm! Plus, the salsa comes in a tube container on the table, and you can serve yourself! It was so good, we had another. We ordered fajitas for two - combo & they are extremely generous on the portion size. They were probably my absolute favorite, I've ever had! The tortillas were Homeade & very good. Needless to say, we will drive the 30 minutes often now.... It's too good to not have again! read more

Just stopped in for a quick bite while passing through town. Always like to try local restaurants, especially "mom & pop" type places. The restaurant is nice & clean. And the staff was very nice! Authentic Mexican atmosphere decorated the inside. I had a couple of fajita tacos and some chips. And the meal was just ok. Certainly not bad, but nothing to go out of your way for. Everything I tasted was just sort of bland. The restaurant was pretty busy, and I was there in between the lunch & dinner crowds. So the locals must like the place, which may say more about it than my review. read more

Very good authentic Mexican food. Probably the best chips and salsa I've ever had. Service was prompt and friendly and I think our waitress was the owner. The only thing that stops this from being a 5 star is the lack of bar at this place. Nothing better than a margarita or a Pacifico with a lime wedge to go along with a great Carne Asada plate. If you find yourself in this small town, you need to find yourself in El Jacalito (just bring your own beer!) read more

Great Food and Staff. Before I wrote this I looked at some of the lower ranked reviews and have to disagree with 80% of them. I eat here more than 15 times a year and have always had a pleasant experience. My one complaint would be at the register. Why in the world will they not update the CC machine to allow you to add a tip post swipe. If you want to add a tip while using a cc you have to tell them prior to handing them the card. read more

We've been regulars for years. Over time this place has declined. Terrible service, no follow up after food is served, no check until we stand at the front to pay. Prices high, no quality in the food. The wait staff who did care, are gone. No direction at all as far as running a good business. Finally, we were there 3 weeks ago and my card was just run and processed for that visit. I'm not independently wealthy and with today's technology, that tells me that someone fell on the sword with properly processing credit card receipts. No cool when people are on a budget and count on transactions to be processed immediately like ever other business does in America. Disappointing! My family used to be regulars here, and although cleanliness was suspect, the service was always fast, friendly enough, and a good value for the $. We moved a year ago, but were in town visiting last night & brought a family group of 6 to El Jacalito. The wait staff rushed around, frowning like they had too much to do, but the place was pretty empty. We got our chips but had to ask for the salsa; they were very slow taking our order, and the food took f o r e v e r!! It was an hour from the time we arrived until we got our food. Worse yet, my fav on the menu was only "OK", not good like I remembered. The chicken was very tough. Some of the food was cold. And the salsa is STILL too hot to enjoy. WE WILL NOT BE BACK. (And PLEASE close that door on the cooler already!! Nothing in there will stay refrigerated when the door is left open!!) read more

Great fajitas, they have that nice chewy texture without the veins and ligaments. I like the fact that it is seasoned right and, I don't leave there with my breath smelling like garlic powder for 3 days. It is not a fancy place but the food speaks for itself.
