We planned to go to Taco Buddha then they closed on Monday. We then decided to come to this place. To my surprise, on a Monday evening, it was packed with so many people. The service is great. Regular chips and salsa. We ordered a guacamole which might be the freshest one I ever had. I am a regular patron of this establishment and have been going here for years Recently, we ordered a dish that comes with cheese, but we requested the cheese to be put on the side Now, when you go in the restaurant, they will serve you the full amount they're supposed to give you but if you order through DoorDash or pick it up, they will give you 1/3 of the amount of cheese that is supposed to be on the dish Typically, I would not complain however there is a seven dollar price difference through ordering in the store versus ordering online And then they expect a tip Absolutely not When I called to ask about the portion sizes, the manager was completely disrespectful pretended like she could not speak English, even though she was speaking fine English My boyfriend speaks Spanish so I could hear her on the phone talking bad about me I will be going somewhere else from here on out. We ordered takeout from El Indio this week: chicken taco, ground beef taco, chile relleno, enchiladas, and steak quesadilla. Everything was tasty, but not as delicious as the takeout I ordered a few months ago. The tacos came with lettuce and tomato, but the ground beef and chicken weren't very flavorful. The chile relleno was a little soggy but I attributed that to the difficulty of taking out food and then eating it at home later. I did really enjoy the steak quesadilla because I love queso and this quesadilla was dunked in plenty of queso inside and out and the steak was tender and flavorful, but my kids didn't like how the queso was too runny. Previously I tried the El Jalisco special and Mexican flag enchilada plate and both were phenomenal, especially the grilled shrimp and fajita-style peppers over rice and beans. I would return to order El Jalisco special again but probably not the tacos. read more

The house made tomatillo sauce the tacos came with was out of this world. Definitely has spice to it but I loved the heat it added to the dish. El Indio has become my typical Tuesday night spot! I came across it when googling Taco Tuesday specials. The place is a nice, small homely restaurant. I've been so many times that I pretty much know everyone there which is great! One thing I can say is the service is always consistent and fast. I've Bieber waited more than 15-20 minutes even with a large party or when they are crowded or with a big party. Food: we had the soft/hard chicken and beef tacos which are $1.50 on Tuesdays!!! They always taste great and fresh. Also the chips, always warm and fresh. Pretty amazing. The margaritas are $2.50 on Tuesday and pretty good as well. Sometimes lighter are light sometimes really strong. Overall a good spot. Cheap and fast! read more

In this area there's a lot of Mexican restaurants and you wouldn't go wrong by choosing El Indio! The food comes out quickly, is delicious and affordable. I made my visit on Cinco de Mayo and you might expect the service staff to be tired, but they were so friendly & attentive. My margarita wasn't particularly strong, but great flavor (not too sweet). The burrito ranchero was very good & smothered in cheese. Yum. We sat on the patio, they have one on each side of the building. Both don't sit many groups, but on a lovely night it's a great spot to find yourself at. read more

We have now been here twice. I liked it both times and my wife really liked it better the second time. I think she realized what to order, which was the chicken fajitas. She is gluten free and they were very accommodating. I asked if they would leave off the mushrooms from the veggie quesadilla and they were happy to do it. The lunch prices are great! The place is little, cozy and the staff are outstanding, especially when they understand enough English. You should definitely try this little whole in the wall restaurant! If you want solid Mexican food that won't break the bank, El Indio is the place to go. Located in a former Pizza Hut on Manchester Rd, El Indio is bright and spirited. They have divided up the dining room into three "aisles" of tables. However they've left the back open enough to accommodate large groups. On my visit, I had the Enchiladas Acapulco--cheese enchiladas covered in sauce and pork. The enchiladas weren't huge, but were served on a large plate with large portions of rice, beans, pico, and guac. They were quite delicious! The jumbo margarita was on special the night we were there. It was a great balance of tart/sweet. Also, the server was very ready to bring more chips/salsa on request. We've been frequenting this Mexican restaurant in an old Pizza Hut building for over 15 years. It seems to have become quite popular, based on the often-full parking lot, at least on Mondays and Tuesdays, when we came for cheap tacos and margaritas specials. We're pleased that they weathered COVID OK, but feel they've been a victim of their success, in a way. With all the people packed in the cramped booths on a typical Monday or Tuesday night it gets quite loud. I can't stand to eat inside anymore, and feel sorry for the employees that have to work amid the din and chaos. We recommend eating outside, if you can. Outside view isn't the greatest, but it's much quieter. Sometimes we get order to go, but no free chips & salsa with the to-go orders, though you can pay extra for a small bag of chips plus a tall cup of salsa. The chips & salsa are good, so we typically do order them with our to-go orders. The food is good, and pretty fair value, though it's gotten more expensive over the years. They used to have $1 tacos on Mondays and Tuesdays, but those same tacos are now up to $1.75. Margaritas aren't too expensive, but come in small cups heavily loaded with ice. Other good things to try include the Mexican Flag combo (3 chicken enchiladas, 1 covered in green sauce, 1 covered in cheese sauce, and 1 covered in red sauce), torta (Mexican sandwich), and Jalisco Special. read more

We've been coming to El Indio, formerly El Tapatio, for over five years. We've always found the food and service to be consistently good, and tonight was no exception. We enjoyed an early dinner, having skipped lunch, splurging on a chicken chimichanga meal with an extra ground beef soft taco for one of us and a 3-item combo. for me (two crispy ground beef tacos and a tamal). Fast service, every part of our semi-complicated order was correct, and the quality and portions of the food were both excellent. We come for the food, not a fancy dining room, but the music and sports channels keep the place lively. Free chips and salsa with reasonable prices, and easy parking in a small, attached lot. read more

And I'll tell ya, despite the heavy Mexican influence the employees did check out to be legal. The food had that taste of a "that'll work" chef that is high everyday and looks for fresh ingredients to just throw in. I was on the hunt for a chile relleno so we tried El Indio. Early on a Friday night we were seated right away and a basket of crispy warm chips quickly appeared. The salsa was fresh tasting and so was the guacamole - delicious. My plate looked like mush but the chile relleno was decent, the beans were seasoned well and very tasty mixed with the rice and salsa. Husband liked the pork carnitas. I visited this restaurant during the coronavirus crisis. I was hungry and decided to be open-minded about this authentic mexican place. I heard there was cheap tacos, and this alone was enough for me to swing by! 1. The chips and salsa brought wonderful memories when I was in elementary school --- very simple Mexican food, not too strong and not too overpowering. The salsa was very thick and nice with minimal spice. Therefore, I think this chip and salsa is absolutely perfect for patrons with very mild tastebud. 2. The taco is very americanized. You'll get simple grounded beef or shredded chicken for $1.50 each. They are delicious with mild flavor. I'd like to kindly point out the following: There is no lime or salsa for these tacos; likewise, there is also no onions and cilantro. This is a bonus for patrons who cannot handle strong flavor associated with traditional Mexican food. Fortunately, there is morezella cheese, and you can't beat that! Shredded Iceberg lettuce is included in tacos. 3. If you're looking for more flavor, I highly recommend nachoamama, a few blocks away from this restaurant. If you're looking for authentic taco with the classic cilantro & onion, I highly recommend the Taco and Ice Cream shop on Cherokee street. There are other authentic shops in the same vicinity that you may want to consider. If you want authentic taco at an affordable price, I recommend La Gloria in Bridgeton. 4. This restaurant is great for cheap tacos on Monday & Tuesday. Each Mexican restaurant is different in Saint Louis. Hopefully this place is your next favorite place! I had the Jalisco Special - grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, peppers & onions served over rice and tomatoes and covered lightly with a cheese sauce. It was absolutely fantastic. My dining partner had the carne asada - thinly sliced grilled steak with onions, peppers, and lettuce served over beans and rice with pico and guac. It was also very very good. It's located in a renovated PizzaHut. This was my first visit here, so I decided to try my go to order a chicken chimichanga, but I also ordered a plain ground beef hard shelled taco, My partner ordered a chicken soft shelled taco, and chicken enchadles verde. They brought us chips and salsa to the table. The chips were obviously house made, nothing great, a little over cooked, the salsa was fine, your average tomato based salsa. My beef taco was nice, very nice, loaded with ground beef, lettuce, and topped with cheese. The shell, was nice and freshly made, I added some of the salsa! The chimi was was really good full of yummy goodness, covered in cheese, with sides of beans and rice, both of which, were full of flavor! And a lettuce salad with a slice of tomato, with sour cream. My partners taco, was full of chicken and he said a definate redo! He scarfed his burrito so fast! He said it was great! So now we now have to come back and try Taco Tuesday!!! read more

The worst Mexican food I have ever had. I love Mexican food and have tried dozens and dozens of Mexican restaurants over the years.The ground beef in the beef enchiladas lacked flavor, the sauce and cheese sauce tasted like they were straight out of a can. I couldn't decide if the tortillas were flour or white corn. I poured a bunch of salsa on them and mixed the rice in with them to try to mask the flavor. No beans. No garnishment such as a little lettuce and chopped tomato. the tortilla chips were thick. I happen to prefer thin and crispy. The service was good. Oh well. Lots of other options around town. read more
