Der Hof wurde bereits 1937 unter Denkmalschutz gestellt und bis in die 50er Jahre hinein noch bewirtschaftet; bis Anfang der 60er Jahre grasten noch die Tiere der Bauernfamilie Röper auf den umliegenden Weiden. Danach stand das Haus lange leer und verfiel zusehends. Der Gewerbeteil wurde zunächst von einem Gemüsehändler und später zu Lagerzwecken genutzt. Zwischen 1983 und 1988 wurde das Gebäude umfangreich saniert und der Dach (Heu-) boden ausgebaut. 1990 erhielt das Haus den erstmals vergebenen Preis der Patriotischen Gesellschaft für besondere Leistungen in der Denkmalpflege. 1992 bis 1996 wurde in den Bauernstuben ein Café betrieben. Im Sommer 1997 erfolgte eine weitere Sanierung und Renovierung des Gebäudes. Seit September 1997 beherbergt der RÖPERHOF das nach Ihm benannte Restaurant und Café.

Maracuja (passion fruit), orange and strawberry. Unfortunately the little fruit flies also know that they use fresh fruit in their juices, and they enjoy hanging around for a taste. He's so attentive to his customers and makes a huge effort to entertain the entire restaurant. We got several free shots of alcohol and the entire restaurant toasts together. The atmosphere is cozy, festive, and lively. There was even a traditional guitar singer that serenaded us twice in the night. My favorite part of my four course meal was the parrot fish and the crème brûlée-like dessert. I'm not sure what it was, but it was GOOD. We also ordered a bottle of wine, which was 22 euros a bottle. I'd say the style of the food was Portuguese fusion. The fun part is that the chef decides what you will eat so you don't have to order your food. The fish that he served us was extremely fresh. I think this is a great place to go with some friends or to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday. Kimo does have more choices and a less fast-food feeling, but I'd still go to Falafelstern hands-down because I find the falafel and other ingredients much tastier.

The main room feels cramped, and seating is mostly on high tables and high chairs. Food quality is decent at the affordable lunch rate (weekly changing menu that can be viewed on the website; most dishes currently at €7,50), but doesn't hold up to the much higher dinner prices. Ultimately Rio Grande feels like a wannabe Block House, but it isn't as comfortable, nor is the food served on the same level of competence.
