Try the Pastor pizza!! Little spicy, but you will NOT be disappointed even have an option to call if you want them to make it ahead, which i recommend. The service is great as well, english is a little rough but they're super nice. Small inside but nobody really eats inside a place like this anyway. One day will come back to try their pasta!! Seems tempting, as well as the wings. But again, the El Pastor pizza is what you want to get!! 5/5

You should call it pan dulce pizza because it's definitely not a normal pizza or NY style just the lack of classic pizza flavours like garlic ?? There's no garlic flavour at all. the bread is sweet which on its own is cool but imagine if I put marinade pepperoni and cheese on a concha (sweet bread) yeah it doesn't go together especially!!! the Al pastor pizza. looks better than it taste in the pictures 8/22/25 Paid$ 81.91 Overall 2/10

This is mandatory next time I go here to eat. Second to none!

This place is second to none! I've never had a burger like this ever. Kudos to the chef and kudos to the lady at the counter. Welcoming environment and bomb food!! #elhornito

Shrimp Pizza Medium

I ordered a to go shrimp pizza and it was my first time ordering from this place and they did not disappoint. Their dough is the right thickness, has slight sweetness to it, the sauce to cheese and toppings ratio was just so perfect. The pizza tasted so good and was ready to pick up in 15 minutes.

While visiting the SF Bay Area, I decided to pick up some pizza for my o'hana, who were in town from Hawaii. The Al Pastor Pizza from El Hornito Pan Pizza caught my eye, especially since my brother, TP, is a big fan of Mexican food. I was hoping it would be a hit, but it turned out to be just okay. The pizzas were generously topped, but I noticed that the crust had a two-inch wide edge, which meant less surface area for toppings. The pizzas also felt undercooked; the dough was soft and chewy, and could have benefited from more time in the oven for a crispier crust and melted cheese. As some other Yelp reviewers mentioned, the dough has a different, sweeter flavor compared to standard pizza dough. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall like plaza near a residential area just off of Jarvis Avenue. I had high hopes for the Al Pastor Pizza, but it ended up being just alright--I was really expecting more than "just okay." Of all the issues, the undercooked crust stood out as the biggest disappointment. If I were to return, I'd definitely ask for a crispier crust. Out of everything we ordered, the Combination Pizza was my favorite. (Shrugs) Also, just a heads up: there's a 3% credit card surcharge that wasn't mentioned at the time of payment.. Hawaiian Pizza (4.25/5)
Marshal R.

DISCLAIMER: The dough is not your typical pizza dough. It's more like a Mexican sweet bread. (not saying it's a bad thing, just so you can align your expectations) THE GOOD - Pepperoni Pizza (4.25 out of 5) - - I like the pepperoni chosen. Oily but not overly oily. - Hawaiian Pizza (4.25 out of 5) - - Good quality ham and pineapple toppings. - Cheesy Bread (4 out of 5) - The dough is sweet but it blends well with the cheese. - Also good to note that the interior is nicely decorated and clean. - Staff was very friendly and welcoming. THE BAD - Also, the dough. - - I got to double, triple stomp on the fact that the dough/crust is sweet. If you're not expecting, you could be blinded sided and it might not be you're thing. THE UGLY - Nothing.

I was endlessly scrolling through Yelp, looking for new places to eat. I came across this pizza place and was excited to see that they served an Al Pastor pizza. I was pretty excited about it, as I have never tried an Al Pastor pizza. My first impression walking in, the smell threw me off, but in a GOOD way. It smelled like a bakery, not a pizza place. They were baking pan. I knew they sold pan here, but I didn't know they baked it too! It smelled very sweet. The restaurant itself is also very clean and spotless. I walked up to the register and was greeted right away. I ordered a personal sized pan pizza, half cheese, and half Al Pastor. I waited, and since I was the only person in there, it took about 20 minutes to get my pizza. Kinda long, but oh well. She served me my pizza and wow. I was so eager to take a bite and pulled one slice out. It passed the cheese pull test, that's for sure! The first bite was amazing. The pizza crust looks thick, but it's actually really light and airy. I've never had a crust like this. It is more like a bread crust instead of a pizza crust. Right amount of sauce and cheese, perfect amount of toppings as well. Al Pastor was nice and tender with a little kick. All veggie toppings were crispy and fresh. This place exceeded my expectations. Very nice hidden gem in Newark! I will definitely be back!

This is my favorite pizza place! They put lots of toppings, cook it perfectly, and the crust is the best! My order always comes fresh and hot and made exactly how i ordered it. I like their house salad the dressing is delicious! Everything I have tried here is great! Their personal pizza is a good size! Good prices as well.

Dinner 1/07/22 Al Pastor Pan Pizza? I had never heard that this was a thing until I found out about El Hornito Pan Pizza. We have been getting haircuts from the salon next door for about a year but never noticed the restaurant next door until one day when we saw there were a lot of people eating outside. After a quick Yelp search, we were here the following week to try their Al Pastor Pan Pizza. They started us off with complimentary cheesy bread. Soft, fluffy cheesy goodness. We ordered a large Al Pastor Pan Pizza and a large Bonus Pizza. Both were amazing. Their dough is so good! The family loved the pan pizza crust. The Al Pastor was a fusion of deliciousness. Sweet, cheesy, spicy... a great combination of flavors. The customer service was great, too. This is a family owned small business, so you know they appreciate their customers. I definitely will return.

AL PASTOR PIZZA! Marinated Al Pastor, pineapple, jalapenos, red onions, and, cilantro. I was talking to my friend in Georgia when picking this up and he said he wished they had something like this in his area. The crust is slightly sweet with a nice crispy bottom, it reminded of Panaderia bread. Lots of toppings and I love getting a lot of different flavors in every bite. I enjoyed this but at the same time because there are so many Indian Pizza restaurants in this area the onion and cilantro make it taste similar, would do well in areas other than Fremont/Newark! They have burgers and pasta as well which also look great. The signature pasta uses hotlinks and sounds very good. We also tried the sausage and olives for kids, same slightly sweet quality to the crust and covered in toppings. Kids loved it!

I inside of the restaurant was small but had plenty of tables. It was a slow day on that weekday early dinner time. We asked to order our items for take out. We waited not too long as I remember. How was the food? Fried Calamari- for only being a couple minutes away I wonder why the calamari was already almost cold when we ate it. It was pretty disappointing. Maybe they just had it in the box while they waited for the rest of our order. I don't know. Flavor was good. Pizza Primavera - It was good, I was okay with it. The pizza dough wasn't my favorite but it was fine. White Pasta - I honestly don't remember what the name was but it was an item my bf ordered. This was terrible. Like there was too much roux to make the bechamel. It tasted of flour. Not much salt, not much of other flavors. Not enough milk and cheese and butter. He took a bite and put it down. Overall, glad we tried it but we might not be coming back. With the economy now, it's disappointing when the food is terrible for how much we pay for.

We got the chicken parm and the margherita pizza. With the margherita pizza, the dough was obviously bought premade and frozen. It was dry and hard as expected from a premade frozen pizza dough. Not sure if the whole thing was bought frozen. There was generous amounts of cheese with one sad basil leaf of each quarter. One positive thing I can add about the pizza is that the cheese does have a satisfying flavor, giving me a nostalgic flashback to school lunch pizza. As for the pasta, the chicken has a strange taste (maybe too strong on a vodka marinade?). There was way too much sauce for the amount of pasta, and it had a very light and bright flavor, not terrible but definitely lacking depth and any nuances of aromatics or herbs. The chicken was not breaded and instead grilled. Servers were attentive, but seemed to have a lot of staff mostly standing around.

Weirdest experience ever…read more My family and I came for my bday dinner and we ordered 2 pizzas, a garlic cheese bread, 2 drinks, and 1 non-alcoholic beer. The food took some time (they told us it'd be 45-50 min) so when it all came together (I wish the appetizer came before the Pizza but it came afterwards), we were super excited to dig in. Haha I appreciated that they have multiple veggie pizza options! But here's the weird part - when we're all done, we have about 8 slices/2 pieces of garlic bread. My sister went to get a to-go box. (There's a reason why I'm specifically calling out #of Togo items) She asked for a medium box and this lady gave her a small. She explained that it won't fit but the lady didn't budge and proceeded to hand her a small. Guess what happened? Yep - all slices didn't fit. So then I get up and ask for a small box and the lady comes back saying the mini box can fit the rest of the slices. I told her that my sister initially came to get a medium sized box but she was provided a small - and now I'm here, getting another box. (And that too - I asked for a SMALL box) The lady (wish I got her name but she'll be know as the pizza box regulator) decided to stick with her miserable ego and give me a mini box. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED - it didn't fit so instead of wasting my time on her, I ended up eating some more of my to-go food, so it can fit the mini box. Now you may think, why not just go up for a third time and ask for another box? Good question. I didn't because when I looked around, the rest of patrons who look like them, had no problem receiving multiple boxes. This is such a huge disappointment for my bday celebration - let alone, for being part of this community for decades. The only thing I can do is take my future pizza referrals (LOL) to a place where they don't put their weird-ass energy to you - especially when you're investing $100+. I hope the pizza box regulator reads this today because my message to you: I hope you get more hugs and love in your life.

On a nice day, you could even take your pizza outside and sit in the courtyard across the street in downtown, which would be a nice way to enjoy the area. First of all, the crust here is excellent. Definitely a differentiator imo, and one of the things that makes the pizza here stand out! I particularly liked the Bandito Eddie's specialty pizza, which literally tastes like a cheeseburger in pizza form LOL. It's such a fun flavor combination and a great pick if you're looking to try something a bit different. They have a bunch of specialty pizzas with fun combinations to choose from, and if nothing quite suits your taste, you can always build your own too. One thing I will say though - PLEASE be aware that ordering a "slice" actually gets you more pizza than ordering a "small" pizza. I appreciate the generous portion for a slice, but I do wish the sizing was clearer, especially given the rather significant price difference. I found it a bit frustrating that my friend who ordered a slice ended up with a bigger meal for cheaper than what I ordered. Long story short, *always* get a slice instead of a small pizza haha. Overall, this is a classic spot that's been around for a long time, and I can see why it's become such a staple of the area. I know people who drive all the way from Pleasanton just for this pizza, and others who bring out-of-town visitors here as a must-try local spot. We drive past this place all the time and I somehow only registered it as a pizza shop, I didn't realize they had a whole Afghan menu. Overall, a worthy substitute, especially for the added convenience. Rating Breakdown: 1.5/2 Stars for Taste -- We ordered the potato and squash bolani. You can choose spicy or mild. Word of warning, even the mild has a slight kick and the peppers are distributed haphazardly throughout. I gave my kid a bite after taste-testing for spice and she started shrieking. My bite was non-spicy...hers was not. We ended up doing visual inspections inside each piece just in case to look for the telltale red flakes. My favorite was the squash because of the hint of sweetness, my sister still loves the classic potato. I wish the outside was crispier, but my order was takeout and I'm not sure how long it sat in the pizza box for. I also read in other reviews you can order extra crispy so I might try that next time. The green sauce the bolani came with is spicier and more watery than De Afghanan. We also ordered the chapli and beef tikka kabob. The chapli was our favorite --the patties were huge! The beef tikka kabob had a slightly offputting mushy texture in the middle, but the flavor and char were overall good. You can choose between brown and white rice and I opted for brown because the server told me it was more popular. The rice is perfectly seasoned, much more evenly spiced than what they serve at De Afghanan. My favorite order of the night though was the eggplant borani. SO good. I could eat a bucket of it. 1/1 Stars for Value -- It was $13 and $14 for normal and squash bolani, respectively. The kebab platters were a little shy of $20 and the boxes were generously packed. It was $10 for the eggplant appetizer, although next time I might splurge $3 more to get it as a platter with rice. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service - I called the order in instead of ordering online and they charged us the in-store price, which is nice. The website prices were on average $3-4 higher. Bonus star because I'll definitely be back for that eggplant. I'm also interested in trying their Afghan breakfast. I'm very sad that they no longer sell sabzi since that is one of my all time faves.
