In the middle of a whirlwind tour of the low countries, we wound up in Bruges on a Tuesday night. So many restaurants were closed! Cue the scary music... Fortunately we found El Greco. Since we arrived without a reservation, we had to agree to vacate our table in 75 minutes or so, but hey, that was ample time. My wife and I shared the Spanakopita and the Pikilia (mixed grill). Both were tasty and left us feeling satisfied, although the former was not the best we've ever had. The mixed grill, however, was excellent. The wait staff was prompt and attentive; the place was pretty crowded and exuded a cozy, comforting feel. The drinks and dessert were all very good. Needed something to eat Christmas Eve and this was one of the few places open. It is a nice greek place in terms of decor. The staff are greek and things seem authentic. Unfortunately, the food was rather underwhelming. I ordered the mixed grill to get a taste of everything and nothing was that great. Dont get me wrong it was edible but definitely a little salty. The tzatziki was average and made of mostly sour cream so not the best. The saganaki is not the classic cheese on fire type dish but a fried almost breaded cheese. It was probably the best thing we had but still not done the classic way. My wife had the swordfish and it was better than the meat. As for drinks the Wine was good with a lot of different greek selections. At the end of the meal they brought out 2 traditional greek cookies that tasted homemade. Very kind gesture and probably the best part of the meal. I think there are better places in the city but this one will do if you need a place to eat. Wishing them the best!! read more

I have to agree with the second post- we arrived around 9pm and were immediately seated. The service was efficient. I ordered the Swordfish special which came with rice, salad, green beans and a small portion of mashed potato. My husband ordered the mixed grill which also came with rice (we thought it would be roasted potatoes) and green beans and salad. My daughter ordered the shrimp with the garlic sauce -- this came with French fries. Everyone enjoyed their meal thoroughly! If you like Rose, try the carafe of Greek Rose -- very good - very dry. As an extra they gave us three small pieces of cake dipped in honey - delicious. Would definitely recommend. read more

Yeah like the last review, it was an average experience. Also it was a second choice when our first was full. The food was ok... Pasta a little undercooked, my meat skewer was 4 Meats (menu said 5) and my wife's lamb was tough and to be honest not exactly generous. The fish/seafood dishes that went past looked and smelt good. They were from memory more expensive. At the end of the day it was a meal bit noting of note and met the Bruges standard of overpriced and underwhelming. read more

My daughter and I had an amazing food and service experience here. Our wine, dip sampler, and meals were delightful. The lamb in my entree was some of the best I've had. We arrived fairly late in the evening and didn't feel rushed one bit to leave - even though we were by far the last to linger. I hope if I'm back in Brugge again, I can stop by in the future. read more
