TERRIBLE! Before booking make sure to read the other reviews and look elsewhere to stay. We had room 16 which thankfully was on the second floor. It reminded me of some of the poorly maintained Brooklyn AirBnBs that I've stayed in. Owner repaired DIY property and done very poorly. I do understand Terlingua is in the middle of nowhere but there are standards. The good: It's super close to Big Bend and there is a small deck patio for room 16. The cafe on site was decent and the food was surprisingly good. A lot of items on the menu were not available due to the Spring Break crazyness which was consistent everywhere. SHOUTOUT TO KYLE WHO IS ONE OF THE WAITERS. KYLE IS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO THE EL DORADO HOTEL AND SHOULD BE PUT IN CHARGE. I added one star for his awesomeness. The bad: Everything.... Upon arrival the girl in charge checked us in and was nice. However she kept doing to opposite of what she said she would do or per our requests. Example: Can we get two bath towels? Result: Two blankets delivered. The room has a large Jacuzzi tub that was out of order. Dirty and tiles all around the tub had either fallen off and placed in the tub or were about to fall off. Thankfully the shower worked and the knob to turn the water on had been replaced with a golf ball. No lie. The tile floor had broken tiles all over the room. My son cut is foot on one on day two. There were so many that the owners simply put an area rug over to cover part of the problem. For reference, the tile installed on the floor is wall tile and not floor tile so no surprise it broke. The vanity sink was interesting and was on a raised platform. It creaked with each step and felt like it was going to give way at any moment. One afternoon, the WATER randomly TURNED OFF. Girl in charge had no idea and it took an hour to get it back on. Apparently it was being worked on but they just didn't bother to tell anyone. Let's not forget that the bathroom has a double shower curtain for a door. I hope your family and or friends are okay with listening to you go to the bathroom. In short, this place could be really cool but the owners lack of effort in keeping the place in at least a Motel 6 level of quality just kills it. Owner suggestion: Demo the jacuzzi tub and wall off the shower and toilet. Paint and replace floor with vinyl LVT. read more

I really LOVED it here. The room was huge, the bed was comfy, we had a huge deck, and we were just steps away from the High Sierra Bar and Grill. But $240+ was a little steep for a room with so many things wrong. The huge jacuzzi tub did not work, the shower was just a trickle of water, the window screen was ripped to shreds so we couldn't sleep with the window open, and the fridge wouldn't close. I would still stay there again, though. read more

I myself fell ignorant to the email service this hotel provides in an area where any service is even possible. Arrived apparently after the hotel is staffed. Finally obtained my code. I attempted to notify the staff there that I found the code and nobody would answer. When he did call back I was also given another code to another unit where we would have to shower. The king suite and I use suite very loosley did not have hot water. So it was our choice to remian in the king or move to the queen. They really should have paid me to stay there. $211.00 for one night that I apparently am going to get some refunded back for the inconveinence. It is Monday and nothing pending on my bank. Just keep looking for somewhere else to stay this isn't what your looking for. I hate to even give one star to post this review. read more

I arrived to check in - there is no front desk; I went to the bar at the adjoining High Sierra. The bartender said I needed a code for the room lock, which was in a confirmation email sent earlier. I did not have this. This earned me a lecture on what an idiot I was not to have saved it, since it said "save this email", and how ignorant I was of the ways of the desert - these apparently include zero customer service. After I endured this, he condescended to text the owner and retrieve the key code. Apparently this happens several times a week (he must be getting tired of lecturing hotel customers). Any rational hotel manager might realize that a system which locks out several paid customers every week is very poor and should be changed - not the Eldorado manager, though. The room was OK, but spartan. No chair. You have to flip a switch and wait a half hour to get hot water - no label identifies the switch, or which position is on. All this might be tolerable in a $75 budget motel - it's way out of line for the $150 charged. BTW, there is an additional $25 fee for "cleaning" - which you might think is a pretty basic service that should be part of the room charge, but no. Avoid this place unless the alternative is sleeping in the desert; or maybe even if it is. read more

Common wisdom suggests that Big Bend visitors must stay at the Chisos Mountain Lodge, but I like uncommon things myself. I thought Terlingua was an even better base - more restaurants, and a ghost-town setting (and getting a sunrise with both the ghost town and the mountains in view? Perfect). And the El Dorado was a great choice. We arrived to a lively scene on Saturday night as a band played. The lady who checked us in was great, and she gave us good breakfast recs. Our room had what we needed (including a fridge). A good night's rest was had by all. We ate at the restaurant one night - there are multiple signs notifying you that there will be a wait, and it was truth in advertising. It was about an hour to get our dinner, as the kitchen seemed to be staffed by one and was served by one. But they do tell you. My enchiladas were pretty good. Overall, were I to return to Big Bend I wouldn't think about lodging and would just book here. It's as good as gold to me. read more

RUDE STAFF! Spoke with Aven Hankey on, Sunday, November 22nd, around 2 pm. Explained to her that I am not able to come and have to quarantine, offered her to charge me 7% interest as stated in their cancelation policy, but she was rude. She said, "why did you book when you didn't want to come?" I explained to her that a month ago I didn't know that Covid cases would be on a rise, and I would have to quarantine due to being exposed to someone that's infected." I am doing the right thing keeping my social obligations in mind, but she refused and said "You are being unreasonable" and "we don't want you to come either, as you are already a problem." and hung up on me. Right now we are mids of Covid, people are dying, and instead of being compassionate and encouraging people to do the right thing, she was being rude, unempathetic, and inhumane. It seems for the Eldorado Hotel, people's lives have no value. They are only concerned with their rental money completely ignoring CDC guidelines. Considering the unresponsive attitude of Eldorado Hotel staff and complete disrespect to human lives, values, and CDC recommendation, I have filed a dispute with my credit card company. and want to get my reservation canceled. read more

I was super hopeful about this hotel based on its proximity to Big Bend (only ~10 min!) but man was I let down. We arrived around 3pm and were hoping to check if our room was ready but was quickly informed by the bar staff that the "hotel lady" doesn't even get there until 4pm and usually doesn't do early check ins. Once we came back later that day we get our key from the bartender... oh and there is NO KEY... ITS A CODE. The room didn't look too disastrous except for the toe nail clippings... broken tiles... basically no hot water... non working TV remote with only 4 channels. Later that night a man at the bar came in saying his code didn't work and the waitress was frantically trying to get in touch with a manager for over an hour with no answer. Finally a cook came out and reset the mans room code and loudly yelled it out along w his room number. I should have gotten the clue when we tried calling the hotel number multiple times throughout several days with no answer. Never ever staying here again. read more

The hotel is OK. For a ghost town atmosphere it's not bad at all. We booked last minute for a spring break trip and were able to get a room here. The room was clean, the AC was cold, and the shower worked well. There was no TV (probably worked out for the best) and the WiFi appears to shut off at night, so plan accordingly. There are picnic tables outside where you can have a beer in the evening and meet your neighbors. We had some good random conversations over the few nights we were there. The restaurant and bar across the parking lot serves as the motel office and will serve setups to your room if you would like. We ate there one evening and the food was very good and the service was excellent. Overall, it's decent place to sleep and to clean up between activities in the area. read more

Even by Terlinqua standards, this place is funky...and not in a good way. After 6 days of camping in Big Bend, my gf and I were looking forward to a long soak, so we paid extra for a room with a King bed and a large tub. Unfortunately, the hot water in our room worked everywhere, except in the big tub. Only a tiny stream came out...after an hour, the tub had less than 2" of water in the bottom. We complained to the night manager, but he was unable to address the water problem, or to move us to another room. Early the next morning, I tried to make a cup of coffee in the room. The room came stocked with coffee, creamers and sugar, and a coffee machine. But there was no COFEE POT in the room. Another fail. I spoke to the day manager before we checked out, and the best she could offer us was a $20 refund. Given the extra cost of that room, this was not acceptable. Thus, my 1-star review. There are plenty of nice places to stay in Terlingua. This place is no cheaper than others, and it presents as an incompetent dump. read more

Very unclean facilities. I was stung by a scorpion in my own room which totally ruined our trip to Big Bend. I cannot believe they're able to charge this much for a motel room that is not clean. I definitely recommend staying in an RV or at Lajitas resort or base camp terljngua if you visit big bend. read more

The place is clean, it's Mexico looked like hotel, they do have Mexican restaurants and bar so it easier to get dinner. They have a small refrigerator in the room and no bathtub just shower, so far it's a good place to stay if you're looking for a place to stay around Big Bend National Park, it's still another 30 miles drive to the park but traffic is empty so you can get there fast. They don't serve breakfast but they have a small place to eat that serve breakfast at one of the gas station at Terlingua, but they also have a breakfast burrito which is not bad to go. read more

It was nearly 4am. We had been driving all night, on a spontaneous road trip to Big Bend. In the pitch dark of night we tried motel after motel, all were closed up tight and had no facilities to gain lodging despite there being 'night phones' at some places. In the distance we saw a purple light - the alternating red and blue of an 'open' sign. Our spirits lifted greatly by the prospect of not having to sleep in the car, we pulled in to find a group of people enjoying the stars with some beers, and a drunken older gentleman who seemed to recall that he did, in fact, have the ability to put us up in a room. My boyfriend went to the office with one of the staff and returned with a room key, receipt, and two beers. We were invited to join the staff on their patio for drinks and conversation, and we saw the majestic beauty of the milky way on a night with no moon. The owner told us the story of how he built the place, bit by bit, and I found that our room had a significant amount of charm, and was clean. The shower ran hot, the air conditioning ran cold, and the room was clearly decorated by hand, which was a nice change of pace from the generic art found in chain hotels. We stayed two nights, and now live on, with fond memories of our visit to Big Bend National Park and the El Dorado Hotel. read more

After a full day exploring Big Bend National Park, eating here was like arriving at an oasis. Had the chicken avocado bacon sandwich Roth a side of home fries. Best home fries I have ever tasted and the sandwich was incredible as well. Highly recommended. Dixie was my server and she and the other server were friendly and super quick in service. read more

TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT!! I booked a trip to celebrate my husband and I anniversary, as we always have on our bikes, and sadly he passed away before we could go. When I called to cancel the reservation the manager kindly offered to refund my deposit due to the circumstances. Well it has been MONTHS and after being "certain" it was refunded to my card, which it WASN'T, and then stating it would be sent priority mail 2x, I have asked for a tracking number and YEP- RADIO SILENCE. If this speaks anything about this place, they are only as good as their management. Thanks for the offer but I will pass. DON'T BOTHER. Don't offer if you cant follow through, customer service is everything. read more

We had been driving all day, enjoying the beautiful scenery in the State Park adjacent to Big Bend NP - it was late, they were there and open, so we stopped in, not knowing what to expect (no Yelp where we were since we were out of range for the web). It was an experience that we will remember and the food wasn't bad either! The folks who live and work in these remote areas are a unique breed and true characters. They seem to function on a lot of alcohol, but are friendly and efficient. Don't order iced tea - yuck. It was powdered and awful. Beer is a much better choice. We split a hotdog plate - hotdogs with chili and cheese. Good chili, good dawgs. Fries were good too. Those and some chips and salsa and we were all set to continue our journey through some magnificent country, hungry no more, and happy. read more

Get thee unto the deck because the downstairs is drab, dark, and unpleasant. Drink the coldest beer (no kidding) in Terlingua and watch the desert turn from drab grey to deep red as the sun sets. Food's decent, but probably tasted better than it really was because we'd just come off a long day of hiking. Service is fast and friendly. So, all in all, a pretty decent place to eat after hiking...as long as you don't sit in the bar. read more

My husband surprised me with a birthday weekend trip to Terlingua and chose this hotel because we had never stayed there. As a special treat, he upgraded to the Jacuzzi tub, but the water heater, though on for more than an hour, could not adequately produce enough hot water to fill it to the jets before going cold. I did not try it a second time. So, unless that is crucial to your stay, save your dollars and get a standard room. The rooms were clean and our King with Jacuzzi was very spacious. Oddly designed but spacious. There is an older model TV suspended from the ceiling that looks awkwardly out of place and gets smacked by the door when it is opened. The free WiFi is always a special amenity. Our king bed had probably outlived its life expectancy but the foam topper offered a little comfort. The pillows are probably in need of replacing as well but I remember thinking how they smelled so clean and fresh. They are thin and flat so get extras when you check in. The A/C kept the room very comfortable. We had a second floor room and, oh what a view. It is so pleasant, after a day in the heat, to sit out on the deck, in the quiet of the evening, and decompress by taking in all of those stars and even catch a satellite or two. Overall, I liked this hotel and we will stay here again, but only if we can stay on the second floor. read more

it is so hard for me to rate this place. The rooms themselves could use a little love and updates but there is so much to do and the food was so good I have to give it another star. Watching the sunset reflect on the mountains, walking down to the ghost town and hiking in the area just adds to the enjoyment, The restaurant has fantastic nachos and quesadillas, the locals always have a good story and it is so nice to just kick back and turn off the electronics. Honestly after looking at the room pics on line I was dreading this stay but after the experience we cant wait to go back. Your close to Big Bend. Only get the tacos there! Not because the other stuff is bad, it's fine, just the tacos with bacon are so good!!! Dined on St. Patricks Day on the way to the ghost town, our waitress was very friendly (donning a green wig) and recommended the tacos. BAM!!! As we waited for our food we noticed the waitress watching something like a beautiful shooting star plunging to earth moving right behind our heads. That star sat at the bar as she nervously blurted out, "How did you like that drink I made you last night? I finished it for you after you left." To which a stunning, tall, young blonde artist type (obviously the shooting star that caught her eye and a good chunk of her heart) said deeply, "Mmm." Sounding almost like Encino Man the lad nodded toward a lone-star beer. The waitress then fetched it as she continued to stammer through her words in a thinly veiled attempt at courtship that kept me and my wife entertained the whole meal. Not getting enough of the action by the time our Tacos were finished I asked if they had pie and happily ordered an Apple-lattice with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Almost exactly the desert I had been seeking the whole trip we left as soon as the slice was gone, soon after the "Encino Rocker" left to go enjoy a cigarette. Fun and tasty. Well, the saying "you get what you pay for" does NOT apply here. Reserved a king room with a jet tub, got there & all that was available was a regular queen. Within 30 minutes the bathroom flooded....mgr gave us extra towels to resolve that issue. Lol. power went out and had to go to office for mgr on duty to reset breaker. Tv got one channel even though there was a Dish remote. Bed was hard as a rock. Just don't expect much. Maybe other rooms are better, this was just our experience. I'll buy a travel trailer or a tent before I ever stay here again. On a good note, the bar and grill "High Sierra" had good food and a friendly staff! read more

We arrived, and our keys were practically thrown at us, with no discussion, (You're in room x, they're in room y) and the lady working at the reception desk threw her coat on and left in a hurry. We went to our rooms, and ours was roomy, but that was its only redeeming feature. The bed was semi-comfortable. The bathroom area was just awkward, separated from the main room by a couple of curtains, so offering very little privacy. The shower was awkward...you had to take a full step UP into it. There was a black jetted tub, but it just looked dirty to me. Oh, and the water was cold, no matter what you did to it. There was a switch over by the sinks (which were NOT in the bathroom area, but in the middle of the bedroom area) that indicated that the hot water was on, but we never felt it. The television was tiny, hanging from the ceiling, and there was no remote. So I can't tell you if it worked or not. There are no amenities. No ice machine. The refrigerator in our room (we were lucky to have one) didn't work well. There seem to be people living in RV's on the premises, with much of their belongings in a truck that is literally wedged between two buildings. The picnic tables were a nice touch, but need to be sanded...they're splinter factories! The only reason I'm giving two stars is because of the location. I reviewed the restaurant separately. (spoiler alert....it wasn't much better, despite being recommended by locals). read more

Wow. Stay away. Im a nice tolerant person but they rip people off bad man. I checked i at 4 p.m. and checked out at 6 p.m. You will too if you book a stay at this jewel. They charged me $175 for a room that normally goes for $89. They dont have a front desk, they dont answer the phone. The room had stains on the sheets like a lot of em. (see pics) The water pressure in the shower that had a bunch of black mold was laughable. (see pics) None of the towels matched and there was only one hand towel and the tile was broken on the floor. No remote for the tv and there were two channels I think it was history channel and static haha. Then theres dog prints on the floor. (see pics) The curtains were indian poncho rugs. (see pics) The stairs above my door were rotting (see pics) There were feral dogs running around outside and trash cans just outside the door. (see pics) I guess thats for convenience ahah. hey man stay away unless you want a case of Hepatitis is my recommendation. read more

I have been coming to the Eldorado for a few years now. Granted I know it's not the Four seasons but it has character. So I decided to stay last week for a few days with my wife. We go the room as soon as we opens the door the strong industrial fragrance about knocked us off our feet! Ok that was strike one. Next we had no water pressure at the sink to wash or brush our teeth, strike two. I opened the bathroom door and figured out why they used that wonderful fragrance, you can smell sewer gasses! Ok strike three! Oh wait one more, the bed was literally hard as a slab of cement. We were so tired and it was late we had no choice but to stay. I closed off the door to the bathroom, it helped. We had reservations for two nights but decided to get a room in Alpine, imagine that! Yes I did try to contact the manager but have not received a response! Ok for the past three years we have been taken a huge group of motorcycles to the El Dorado. We will now be looking for a different place! read more

I haven't stayed here, but the bar and restaurant are great. They serve beer in 12oz mug or a huge 24oz glass. Go for the 24oz glass, especially if you're there for dinner after spending a day in Big Bend hiking around in the West Texas sun. The chips and salsa are good, and the rest of the menu is very authentic home-style Tex-Mex. They serve huevos rancheros any time of the day, and the rest of the food is excellent as well. The prices are quite reasonable, and the staff is very pleasant. Overall, it was the best meal that I had while in the Big Bend area. read more

I'm rating the hotel room. This hotel is fine if you expect no frills, bare necessities, 4 plywood walls and a plywood ceiling. It's a fine place to crash when in the Big Bend region. Great place to stay and drink beer in Terlingua. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. If you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. If you are looking for fun, great stories, and hospitable people, this IS your place. Hang out on the porch and you will meet some interesting and nice people and hear some great stories.
