Rental Jeep at BBNP West entrance gate
    Ted B.

Great way to tour BBNP. I had not researched where BBJ was located in reference to BBNP. However all worked out good. Traveling River road was an adventure in itself. The stiff suspension was tiring riding on BBNP roads, water washed ridges everywhere. One does not need a Jeep when dry conditions are present but it was more the nostalgia than a need of a Jeep for us. We were able to park our vehicles and go enjoy the two days. BBSP was ok. Roads not clearly marked. Dry conditions everywhere The whole adventure is a once in a life time. We have seen over 30 National Parks. A Jeep ride is fun

The jeep at the end of Guale Road in Big Bend State Park overlooking the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico.

I rented from Big Bend Jeep to do some trail driving in Big Bend Ranch State Park for a day. The state park is much less developed than the national park, and doesn't have any paved roads in the interior. The jeep is picked up north of Presidio, so it seems out of the way, but if you are going trail driving in the state park, you'll do that from the west entrance anyway, which is near Presidio. The trails in the state park are quite challenging and I was impressed by how easy it was in this jeep, because it has large knobby tires and is lifted 2.5 inches. It goes up and down knee-high ledges with total ease. It also has a power disconnecting sway bar, which allows for higher suspension travel in the front wheels while off roading. That turned out to be an awesome feature as it lets the jeep handle very uneven terrain without jarring.

Excellent customer service. The Jeep was waiting for us when we arrived at LaJitas airport, and the Jeep was in great condition!

I rarely write Yelp reviews (I'm a huge Yelp lurker), but I thought I would write one for Alpine…read moreAuto Rental because they don't have many reviews here, and I felt they did an excellent job of facilitating a phenomenal recent trip of mine to the Big Bend region. The only snag I ran into was having a slightly difficult time contacting them by phone, but once I was able to do so, they were nothing but super accommodating. The main purpose of my trip was to visit Big Bend National Park, and secondarily to visit Marfa. I had been debating about whether or not to take Amtrak from Houston to Alpine and drive there, versus just driving all the way from Houston, but I preferred to do the former. Given that Alpine Auto Rental seems to be the only car rental facility within a two-hour driving radius of Alpine, it was either taking the train and renting from them, driving from Houston, or flying to El Paso or Midland/Odessa and renting a car from there to drive to Big Bend NP (much too far in my opinion). I was concerned about the fact that their listed hours state that they are closed on Sundays, and the train I wanted to take arrived on a Sunday, but once I was actually able to speak to them on the phone, they confirmed that I could rent a car on the day of my arrival. They even drove the car to the Alpine train station to meet me at the time of my train's arrival, letting me know in advance that they would track my train online in real time (because Amtrak can be notoriously delayed) to determine when I would actually arrive. Similarly, for my departure trip home, they told me that because Amtrak was often unpredictable/delayed, that I could simply drive to the train station, leave my keys in the glove compartment, and close up the locked doors whenever I was done with the car. Even though they have a monopoly on car rentals in the area (as far as I know), and despite it being slightly annoying that they charge 10 cents/mile on top of the daily base car rental rates, I felt the prices overall were very much in line with what I would expect to pay for a car rental in a major city. I highly recommend Alpine Auto Rental and would strongly consider using them in conjunction with a train ride to Alpine (if feasible) if you plan on visiting the Big Bend region.
