My wife and I booked the Rubicon wrangler a month out from June 3rd, 2026. We've both been to the Big Bend region and National Park more times than we can count, but this time we wanted to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary doing things we'd never done. We'd experienced all the 4x4 primitive roads in the NP so this time we wanted to try the SP. Our chosen trail was Fresno Canyon and our Big Bend Jeep was more than equipped to do the job! The morning of pickup we were immediately greeted by Austin and shown to "Ruby," a new white Rubicon X with 6K miles. After very minimal housekeeping details we were on our way to the state park as we had a long trip before even getting on the trail. We passed two vehicles on their way out of the park and did not see another soul the rest of the day! The weather and road conditions ended up being perfect for our off-roading adventure! Even though Fresno Canyon is rated as easy (3/10), it's the SP's roughest trail. And there are a few dicy areas but Big Bend Jeep's "Ruby" took 'em like a champ! In the upper canyon portion there's a pretty gnarly steep, loose-rock descent. Once in the lower canyon, there are some narrow and off-camber sections. Soft sand and exposed rocks demand careful line selection to avoid bottoming out. We traversed all of this confidently with no cell signal or others around in this solid jeep! The handling and 4H/4L power definitely made this trail a breeze. A couple recommendations for Big Bend Jeep or patrons is to come prepared with a good air compressor to air down/up the tires and a decent farm jack (we had the factory jack in our jeep) just in case. After driving past other outfits in Terlingua offering jeep rentals, Big Bend Jeep's selection was far better than the rest. And it's much more convenient than renting/picking up in Marathon or Alpine, especially when attempting to do such long trips in a day! We will definitely return for more rugged adventures! I had a little trouble on the website, making the reservations, so I just called the number. Lauren answered immediately, and was more than helpful! We drove the Old Ore Road all the way through the park. It really was fun and very beautiful. Not terribly challenging for a very nice Jeep but there are several places that let you feel like you're really for wheeling. . We had lots of fun!!! This is a small outfit with very personal service, pick up and drop off were easy. And honestly, I would've expected to pay a lot more for this type of experience. Great way to tour BBNP. I had not researched where BBJ was located in reference to BBNP. However all worked out good. Traveling River road was an adventure in itself. The stiff suspension was tiring riding on BBNP roads, water washed ridges everywhere. One does not need a Jeep when dry conditions are present but it was more the nostalgia than a need of a Jeep for us. We were able to park our vehicles and go enjoy the two days. BBSP was ok. I rented from Big Bend Jeep to do some trail driving in Big Bend Ranch State Park for a day. The state park is much less developed than the national park, and doesn't have any paved roads in the interior. The jeep is picked up north of Presidio, so it seems out of the way, but if you are going trail driving in the state park, you'll do that from the west entrance anyway, which is near Presidio. The trails in the state park are quite challenging and I was impressed by how easy it was in this jeep, because it has large knobby tires and is lifted 2.5 inches. It goes up and down knee-high ledges with total ease. It also has a power disconnecting sway bar, which allows for higher suspension travel in the front wheels while off roading. That turned out to be an awesome feature as it lets the jeep handle very uneven terrain without jarring. read more

My husband and I had an amazing time with the Jeep! We got to explore parts of the park we would have never been able to see. The company was very easy to work with and told us some great trails to try. While we were out exploring we had a Park Ranger that knew the owners find us and make sure we were having a good time and sent us on another great trail.
