That place was empty and this place was mostly full. The inside was simple, working class style but nice tables and clean. The Chile Relleno was legit and the added chicken was seasoned to perfection. And the cocktail they made my wife was tasty and strong. And anyone who know me, knows that I test a Mexican restaurant by how well they make a basic rice and beans side dish. This place passed with flying colors. I've never gone wrong with any Mexican place that if they put the attention and focus into rice and beans, then the entrees are pretty spectacular. Check them out!

I didn't need extra fat from avocado after the corn cakes since it doesn't add much flavor to the dish. The corn cakes are good and I will order again but not as good as some other cornbread. It came with 2 cakes. One was undercooked and one has a crispy crust. The undercooked one was my favorite. It is more moist with soft in the middle. Tuna Al Pastor has a kick but nothing special. Tres Leches was beautiful. 4/5. I like the fresh fruits to cut down the sweetness. The cake was a bit in the dense side. The icing on top was thick. I wish it was a fluffy whip cream to cut down from all the sweetness. Overall it's still a better tres leches than other places in the area.

They will start you out with chips and salsa and those were really good. The chips are very thick and tasty while the salsa is thick like a mole but very tasty and deep in flavor. So many items on the menu looked good, so I started with the tiki cocktail and a mangonada while deciding what to order. Both drinks were really delicious of course. I decided on the fajita plate and the birria. I thought the fajita was the better of the two dishes, but makes sense since beef is more expensive than goat. The fajitas come with tortillas, but these seemed to be stored bought and not homemade. Beans were very good though. Overall, I was very impressed and would come back again if I was ever in the area.

The food is upscale traditional Mexican fare but has most of your usual options like enchiladas and fajitas. We always start with chips and salsa. Their salsa is freshly made with tomatoes and onions. We always go at dinner time and have had a variety of dishes. I'm partial to their fajitas or steaks while my husband goes with their Fonda plate of enchiladas with a side taco. But don't miss out on their specials. Every month or so their are seasonal specials. Most recently we both had a wood fired pork chop with poblano mashed potatoes and cabbage and garbanzo bean casserole with a slightly spiced chile sauce. It was divine!! The food is always delicious and beautifully presented. It's clear that the chefs pay attention to details. The staff are always helpful and attentive. You don't want to pass on dessert either. Their empanadas are seasonal. BlackBerry are my favorite. Recently the option was Apple pie, for the fall season La Fonda on Main is one if those comforting places we return to over and over and is one of those places to take out of town guests who want local, non-chain atmosphere and food.

It's nutty and sweet. The crunchy and citrusy nopales and the fruity chili pepper on the top make the dish more interesting texture wise. The Tlalpeno soup is good. I wish the soup was less salty so I could enjoy the soup by itself. Instead I only had the chicken, chickpeas and dried peppers in the soup. Yes, I had some of the peppers. I love the sun dried sweetness. I wish I could soon find some sun dried peppers that taste as good so I can add them to my own recipes. Among the three dishes, I would recommend their Mole Poblano.

Good service, great food, and pretty reasonable prices (especially for this neighborhood) are what always makes Tito's a good choice! The better half ordered soft tacos that came out looking like enchiladas. Rolled up, smothered in what I can only describe as a crushed tomato sauce. The sauce was flavorful. But they definitely weren't normal soft tacos. Rice was bland as hell, refrieds were ok. I had the mini al carbon tacos. Apparently they forgot to season the meat. Didn't even taste salt on them. The charro beans had good flavor but I had more tomato, onion, and jalapeño than beans. If this is their normal I question how they have stayed in business in a city with amazing Mexican food everywhere. Wouldn't go back except maybe for queso and some drinks(didn't have any so can't comment on that aspect. Hopefully better than the food we had.)

She was friendly and attentive, took our order right away, and delivered our drinks promptly. What impressed us most was how she kept our drinks refilled without us ever having to ask. Her service was outstanding and made an already enjoyable lunch even better. The food was just as impressive. Our Mexican entrées were delicious and exactly what we needed after a hot afternoon on the River Walk. Between the excellent food, Gabby's attentive service, and the comfortable, modern dining room, Iron Cactus turned out to be the perfect place to relax and recharge. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely return the next time we're in San Antonio. Next time, though, we'd like to come back for dinner and experience Iron Cactus in the evening.
