El Cid Mexican Food, Oakhurst: 2025 Jul 19 (4.16 of 5)
Maggie T.

El Cid Mexican Food, Oakhurst: 2025 Jul 19 (4.16 of 5) Our guest had to rush off soon after lunch, so instead of eating there, we ordered to-go. Nina took our phone orders. She's very efficient and even though the noise level in the background was high, we didn't need to keep repeating our orders. When we got there, the eatery was filled with lunch patrons. Evelyn checked our orders. She was friendly and very pleasant. (5 of 5) The food: Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo: This was my order. There were several side items so to be fair, I'm breaking down my review. The main dish consists of slow-grilled prawns, rice and beans. When we think Mexican food, we feel that if the rice and beans are good, the rest will follow. I must say the rice and beans were perfectly seasoned and cooked. (5 of 5) The shrimps, however, lacked seasoning and were cold and dry. (2.25 of 5) The garlic butter did not support the shrimps. It lacked taste and was utterly bland. (1 of 5) Red dipping sauce was yummy. (5 of 5) The soup side dish has meat balls, carrots, potato, celery and tomato. It was magnificent. The flavors pop. I love this. (5 of 5) Even with the 'oh dear' and 'oh wow', this dish gets an overall score of 3.65) Burrito: I didn't try this but was told it was an overall score of 4. Tacos: I didn't try this dish but was told it was an overall score of 4. This is one eatery we keep returning to. Parking is easy, but the eatery is always filled, so getting food to-go here is the way to go. It's easy and convenient. Mexican food needs tons of preparation, so we're definitely pleased to have a decent eatery we're proud to support.

El Cid is a must-visit if you're anywhere near Sierra National Park. The food comes out surprisingly fast, which is perfect when you're hungry after a day of hiking or exploring. The service is consistently friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is genuinely relaxing. One of the best parts is the large windows and porch area, which let in tons of natural light and offer beautiful views of the mountains. Whether you sit inside or out, the space feels warm, open, and connected to the landscape. Great service. Great food. Gorgeous views. Highly recommend.

Chili Colorado burrito Margarita Pitcher

Just like HOME! I love it here no matter what, actually my burrito was better at Mariscos! I ordered a patron Margarita and received a pitcher of Maragarita that's why I took a star off! love the atmosphere and love the business and I highly recommend I like the chili Colorado burrito and again wasn't better than Mariscos the prices have gone up like every where else! The waitress could have been better but still a great lunch! I love the Mexican coffee n chips n salsa n to use the bathroom before going in to Yosemite! Must stop!

Very clean spacious service was great The waiter was very attentive making sure that our glasses were never empty. The food was very good. The abondagas soup very flavorful and rice light and delicious. I highly recommend if you're driving through Oakhurst this is the stop you should make and they have a lovely view.

Service was pretty good! Food was mediocre and greasy. Ambiance was nothing special but makes sense because it is in the middle of nowhere.

We will be back. Some of the best Caldo I have ever had in a restaurant. Very good salsa and fresh tortilla chips. Fantastic service.

After a long day of hiking in Yosemite this was the perfect place to relax and eat good food…read more Oakhurst Grill reminds me of an old fashioned, upscale country restaurant. It has a large dining room and a large whiskey lounge. The dining room has art adorning the walls and large windows overlooking the mountains. The menu is a mix of Italian American dishes and pub food. The service was great and our server was awesome. One funny thing about this restaurant is that the chairs are all on wheels. I actually think this would be smart to have at a lot of restaurants. It makes getting up from the table or sliding towards it much easier. I was really impressed by the food here. The pretzel is one of the best I've ever had. It's huge and perfectly baked. It comes with a tasty beer cheese, and I also ordered some Dijon mustard for dipping as well. For an entree I ordered the pork schnitzel. It's a very rich dish with good flavors and textures. I highly recommend it!

Very personable, and accommodating. We had 30 people present. The manager accommodated our group for a dinner reservation at 3:00, an hour before they opened. Ally (spelling?) was our waitress and even with servers in our family, she's the best waitress I have ever seen. This women took all drink orders, delivered them. Took all food orders, delivered them, all hot, no errors, and all within the same time frame. Our drinks all remained full, but so did our hearts. Ally felt like a family member, even giving a little speech after being taunted lovingly, followed by a dance! 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up. Our entire party was so impressed with our whole experience, thank you Ally for sharing your time with us! #CollinsWeddingParty10.16.2026 Now on to the food! The portions are huge. The food was delicious, get the Rib Eye and smother that sucker. You won't be sad after! The only thing that might give Ally a run for her money is the Beer Cheese that comes with their delicious and shareable pretzel! The Braised Beef Pasta was mouthgasmic! This was my first time here and I already know next time, I'll be ordering the jambalaya!! I also had major food envy over the Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl!!

I'd heard about the place, and had always wanted to try it. I really, really enjoyed the experience. Most delightful dinner I've had in a long time. I can't wait to go back. I say these things because I'm going to have a couple negatives to go along with the praise, and I want to make it clear that I highly recommend the place as a fun, enjoyable dining experience. First, I'll go over the plusses. The view of the lake is serene and enjoyable. Really makes for an enjoyable dining experience. Call it Tahoe Junior. I highly recommend the bottom level of the restaurant, which has an elevated menu with higher pricing over the top level casual dining. Better aesthetics and menu make it worth it. They also do have a bargain menu of smaller portions if you can live with smaller portions. (Not me, lol.) You can see the menu at their site. Prices are typical Nicer eatery level. ($50+.) I had the ribeye. Typical quality. Well prepared. Featured a NICE proprietary blue cheese butter spread. Umm, yummy! I want more! Also loved the peach ice tea. More yummy. I overdose everything in sweetener, so I recommend that. Staff was first rate. Darn near everything about the visit was great from start to finish. Now for my negatives... The bread was these Tiny little slices of (I suppose) Italian bread. I wasn't familiar with it. Perhaps it's a standard four-bite bread type. Certainly didn't work for me. Bite-size is not really what I want in dinner bread... Veggies were bleh. Broccolini and carrots. Did nothing for me. We now come to the big disappointment and the Offense... No baked potato, but mashed potatoes! I can't recall the last time I ordered a quality steak that came with mashed potatoes instead of a BAKED potato! "No big deal," I thought. "I'll order a baked potato." The Up Charge was $9! You heard that right. NINE DOLLARS to swap baked for mashed! I might expect $9 for a potato at Ruth's Chris, but gosh! NINE DOLLARS?! The whole table was offended. That did not ruin the meal for us. We all enjoyed it and planned to return, but we ALL thought NINE DOLLARS for a potato--and we're not talking a huge one either, though it was decent in size--was insane. Absolutely insane. Fixins did not include bacon bits, which surprised me, but not every place offers them so okay. That's it. Full dinner and drinks for 4 was a bit under $300. Enjoyed ourselves, going back, but we don't understand the outrageous price on the potato. Tagging the visit at a 4, and recommending Ducey's. Be prepared for mashed... Shown--dinner and the $9 potato :)

When we were seated we were then told that the kitchen was extremely backed up and it wouldn't be another 45+ minutes until they can even take our order. Thankfully they were able to take our drink order first so we got to enjoy the view. We were starving by the time we finally got our food, everything was fried since we decided to get their sampler platter and fried calamari. The food was pretty decent, I think I just got sick of it pretty fast because everything felt very heavy. I would probably only come back for the views next time I'm in the area, and get some drinks and light apps!
