Doing the tourist thing to Yosemite. Great time of year to go. Not too many folks and easy access. Tried El Cid's since Pete's was closed. I ordered Huevos con Chorizo. The chorizo was a bit different than what I'm used to in SoCal, but it was good regardless. Beans were good, too. We were sat in the big, super noisy area. Not real conducive to conversation. Waiter was very nice, bus boys provided excellent refills. :-) I dunno if I'd eat there again, but when you're hungry...you're hungry. read more

If you go from Yosemite to El Fresno this is the place to stop. Real Mexican food, excellent quality and staff. It also seems that locals love it! For T-Mobile users, they have free WiFi read more

El Cid - Mexican decoration - Mexican Near Me - Oakhurst, California

We were in the mood for Mexican food. We are from the Bay Area and are used to authentic Mexican food. While staying in Bass Lake, we saw the sign for El Cid. We stopped in, were greeted warmly, and then had a delicious lunch. M-F they have lunch specials from 11am -3pm I had a chicken enchilada, sauce on the side, beans and rice. My guest had the same + a taco and a lime margarita. She would give the food five stars as well. Enjoy! read more

Been coming to el cid every year during a week stay vacation at bass lake. Food is always great and have never had problem - even if there's 18 of us. Free chips and salsa (always a plus) read more

Whenever I drive by there is tons of cars in the parking lot. While on vaca we decided to try it out. Stepped in and we were immediately greeted and seated. There was s beautiful view of the mountains from where we sat. Chips and salsa brought out right away and they were good. I ordered the combo with2 chili verde burritos chicken taco and rice. I really liked the taco. The rice was ok a little bland for my taste. The chili verde burrito was ok. Don't think I would order it again. My mom got the enchilada Vera Cruz. She really like it. Lots of shrimp in it and good flavor. I also had a cup of albondigas soup which was delicious. Will defiantly go back and try other items. read more

I don't often leave reviews, but as I considered the overall good Yelp reviews before choosing to eat here, I feel I should contribute. I have to say this was the worst food I've ever been served. Bland, soggy beans, the rice just tasted of stock cube. The tacos were greasy, nasty meat, with soggy, warm lettuce. read more

Outstanding service, food and drinks! Our waitress was so accommodating and kind, and the service was very quick! I ordered the strawberry margarita and the chicken enchilada suprema plate, and both were delicious. Highly recommend this place!! read more

I was in Yosemite and driving out on Easter Sunday. I didn't expect much to be open but we decided to stop by. I was in the mood for Menudo and this did not disappoint. The Menudo was delicious!! Living in LA County I couldn't take tons of leftovers or carry out but if I could I would of. I wanted to go again the next day but we needed to get on the road. I would definitely go again! read more

When we walked I. We were greeted by moody hostess but, everything changed as soon as we were seated and were greeted by Lupe. She was extremely kind, helpful and just down right amazing. We were able to communicate with her in Spanish and English and was very helpful when choosing a dish to eat. The food was great and very tasty. 5 stars because of Lupe, the pitcher of margaritas was perfectly made, and the food was amazing thanks to Lupita! read more

Me and my hubby came in just before closing( sorry about that). The staff didn't kick any attitude about it, in fact they were awesome and friendly. Food came out fast and hot....but more importantly delicious. Very homey feel, in fact the owner checked in on us and you can tell he takes pride in his place, Big shout out to our server Jessica. She made good suggestions and was warm and attentive. On our way out we asked what was fun in the area, everybody chimed in with great ideas. Overall a great experience. 1 thing, could use some décor. read more

Best place to eat in oakhurst. Service was fantastic. Put our name in and grabbed a beer while waiting for our table. Ordered the el Sid burrito with steak and it was excellent. Yesterday four of us had a very good Saturday dinner at El Cid Mexican Cuisine, and enjoyed the outside Christmas decorations below the dining room. We all agreed the chile verde enchiladas - cheese enchiladas covered by delicious chile verde - were fantastic. Chile rellenos also good - not too heavily battered, like some places. Chips nicely seasoned. BUT - Mexican cocido without a cob of corn! Bordering on disgraceful! ;-) Good broth (not too greasy, like some I've had), the beef was nice, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and cilantro. BUT, seriously ... NO CORN! (Which, I guess, begs the question, in a Mexican restaurant can it really be cocido if it doesn't have a cob of corn?) read more

As A Mexican I can definitely say this place isn't authentic mexican food. the Micheladas tasted terrible! The EL Cid Burrito is basically steak fajitas wrapped in a tortilla. The bean and chorizo dip came with olives i cant remember the last time I have seen a MEXICAN dish have olives on it. I ordered two cow tongue tacos and I could barely find any cow tongue with so much cabbage on my tacos. 1st cabbage doesn't go on tacos 2nd onions weren't even on the tacos. I must say the customer service wasn't bad at all but the food, presentation and price for what the quality of food you receive is definitely a huge huge weak point in the restaurant read more

We've never figured out what the locals like about this place. It was recommended by our hotel staff but we had tried it already and new that couldnt be the best local Mexican food. Chicken enchiladas were boiled unseasoned shredded chicken with sauce that tasted straight out of a can. The chips were not good. The place was so jam packed with very loud people. Definitely not the food or experience we were looking for but since locals thought it was the "only joint worth mentioning" we had to try it. Never again. read more

If you like good Mexican food don't stop here. Tasteless and served cold. Service was adequate but don't waste your time or money here.

I can always tell if a Mexican restaurant is going to be good if they have good salsas. As soon as you sit down, they bring you some chips with a really good salsa fresca. I had the carne asada tampiqueña and it was great. It comes with a soup or salad and I had an albondigas soup and it was amazing. The meat from the tampiqueña was juicy and tender and it came with rice and beans. Rice was so good. Definitely coming back on our next trip. read more

Has been a few years since we have been to this Mexican Restaurant in Oakhurst. We forgot how great their salsa was as well as their Shredded Beef Tostadas! Salsa had substance and not just sauce. Day before Mothers Day the place was packed as most people were either heading to Bass Lake or all the way up to Yosemite! Really enjoyed not only the food but the ambiance and spectacular views. Reasonably priced food and excellent service. The chips and salsa kept flowing as we waited for the main course. Jeff & Carol Weiss Desert Hot Springs, CA (near Palm Springs, CA) read more

Not wasting your money or time. Used to be a nice place to eat. Food is flavorless and served lukewarm. The meat in the tacos were soggy. Some type of meatball on top of the tamale and it was plain nasty. read more

Fresh Mexican Food after a days hikes in Yosemite Valley. Perfect with a Margarita and an IPA.

Great food, reasonable prices and outstanding service! We liked it so much the first night we got into town that we went back the next night. read more

The Mexican food is pretty decent especially after coming off a hike. A little over priced, but decent. The chips were nicely seasoned and the chips guy was on point! HOWEVER I do have a question for servers/managers: What is your justification for giving a server one random table (ours) in a room that was helped by 2-3 other capable servers? it seemed like our server had tables in another room and was given our table very randomly. it took FOREVER to have our drinks and order taken, be served, and be attended to; 2 tables seated after us were helped and even had their drinks and main dishes before we even got our salads. Now, I'm not one to speculate, nor am I one to bring race into the issue, but management should be more careful not to assume anything, especially nowadays when not everyone is as understanding or easy-going as we are. 4 stars because I couldn't give it 3.5 and I like to give the benefit of the doubt. read more

I went in for lunch during a hiking trip. It was not my first visit to El CID. I had the 2 item combo taco, enchilada with ground beef. Not bad but not the best ive had in the area. My wive had a cheese enchilada. The chips and salsa were great. The service was great. I will return. I didn't feel the food was worth more then 3 stars but it's not bad. The view is great with the bird feeders next to the windows. read more

Haven't been here in quite sometime. The place is usually crowded out for dinner and we usually get back late from a day of hiking in Yosemite. So lunch seemed like a perfect opportunity to check it out again before heading back home from vacation. Food: In the past here, and my biggest complaint, was that the food was always greasy. The food today was very good. I had a combination plate with a taco, enchilada and a tamale. Very good and not even a hint of grease. Could use maybe tad bit more seasoning though. The chips and salsa were good. But even though the chips had seasoning on them, the salsa was a little bland. But still good and filling. Price: The prices were very reasonable. Service: We were warmly greeted by the cashier and hostess, whose nice smiles are always a pleasant thing when you walk into a restaurant. The service was good, although a couple times we had to ask for more chips and salsa and drink refills, but they were quick in bringing them to our table when asked. The waitress was very business-like and accurate in her order-taking, however, she could have smiled and made eye contact more. Maybe just having a bad morning. Decor/Cleanliness: From what we heard the place had recently been remodeled. It looks nice and very open to the outside light. Could use some more decorating on the interior. The tables, seats and floors were very clean. Overall: The food was good but could use a little more seasoning, but thank god, no more grease! Maybe a little more attentiveness on the drink refills and the chips and salsa. Very nice greetings from the cashier and hostess, waitress could smile more. Still, a nice experience all in all. read more

We did a pit stop here on our way out of Yosemite the place was packed but we didn't even have to wait to be seated. Food is okay. We tried their beef taco combo plate with chile relleno and beef enchallada. It was just average I wasn't blown away to make me swing by again next time I'm in the area. My wife tried their shrimp cocktail it wasn't even as good the one Senor Baja serves. Service was great though and we enjoyed their chips and salsa at least. read more

Absolutely the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to!! No cheese dip!! What?!? Service was mediocre...food was bland and overpriced

1 star because I never actually got seated. Waited outside in the cold for over 45 min because they were unable to accommodate a party of 8. People arrived after us and were seated before us both large and small families. Terrible unorganized seating arrangements. Ended up leaving. read more

Went to El Cid. Took my two older sons and 2 friends. As we spoke Spanish to one another and ordered in English. But when we received our check the waitress added her own gratuity for a party of 5. I asked the girls in the front why it was added and there response was it's for large parties. I said there are only five of us. She didn't know what to say. She added a 18% gratuity to our check of 5 people. I guess she thought us Hispanics don't tip. But guess what I always give 20% because some of my family are servers too. I will never go there again, plus the service isn't good.. read more

I have ever before been a real fan of Albondigas Soup, but what I found at El CID is worthy of serious praise! Oh, the burritos, tacos, enchiladas and such are also delicious, but oh that soup. The large bowl comes with added rice, too. What a treat! Service is generally good and folks can find something tempting on the bountiful menu. Even for someone who isn't fond of Mexican cuisine, there is a great hamburger choice. Prices are reasonable and food is served quickly and hot. We can't wait to return! read more

My dad was craving chicken and so we decided to stop at El Cid to what we believed would be authentic Mexican food. Can't even fathom to explain how far from authentic Mexican food this place serves. If you actually believe this is authentic Mexican food I feel bad for you. The rice wasn't even orange rice which if it were authentic it would be. The guacamole was brown by the time they brought it out. The salsa was not even good and they don't even offer aguas frescas which ANY authentic Mexican restaurant would serve. Please skip this place if you're craving REAL AUTHENTIC Mexican food because you're going to be highly disappointed. read more

I ordered the chimichanga with Chile Colorado and the wife ordered the enchiladas plate. Both came with their side of rice and beans. I don't know if it's because I frequent many Mexican restaurants, but this place ain't it. In my opinion the food was not real Mexican. Not to say it was terrible, it just wasn't there. Chile Colorado is a mix of beef chunks in a red juices/sauce . What I got was literally the enchilada sauce mixed with beef . The same exact sauce on my wife's enchiladas. Literally no difference. Tasted terrible to me. Left the entire plate. Enchiladas were dry. The chips were excellent though. But overall It's just a no for me. If you're looking for true Mexican this is not the spot. Good for the mountain folk tho 3 stars because they seemed to be busy with locals. It's just my taste read more

Oh my goodness this place is a total must-try whenever you're in the area! The service is great and the food is very very good! After a whole day in Yosemite we came in here for dinner. The place had alot of people but hardly waited to be seated. After being shown our table chips & salsa were served along with glasses of water - and I swear they have sensor because as soon as our water are half empty, servers are there to refill right away. Not even 10-15min after placing our orders our food were being served already! I can talk about how good all the food we had were but I'm sure whatever you end up picking it will taste wonderful! We will definitely be coming back to El Cid on our next trip back to Yosemite! Thank you for the great service Abel! read more

El Cid was alright. I've had better Mexican food, but I've also had worse. Pros: - Nice ambiance. They've got an indoor patio you can dine in, and a rather large cactus garden you can look at while you eat. This was complete with several bird feeders that were absolutely covered with local finches. - Portions are decently sized. I ordered a combo, and as a 250lb guy, I was pretty satisfied with the amount of food I received. - The price is right. Wasn't too expensive and pretty much spot on in regards to cost in comparison to other Mexican restaurants, like Abuelos. Cons: - A bit off the beaten path. It's on the way to Yosemite, a bit away from the rest of the town of Oakhurst. Not that far, but when everything else is within walking distance, you sort of resent having to jump in your car to drive a couple miles up the road, but when it's summer, you don't really have a choice, unless you're the type that likes walking in 104 degrees along the side of the road like a bum. - Food is not impressively delicious. It's food. It's Mexican. But I'm pretty sure you've had better at some point in your life. If you haven't had better...you will someday. I was hungry, and I didn't feel like emptying the entire contents of my wallet. El Cid hit the spot. There's really not much else to say about it besides that. read more
