El Boticario - Mieles de Maria Sabina

The first time it was just for some drinks and then we ate here on New Years Eve. Our bartender was Frank and our server was Esencia Vital. Both were friendly and helpful. We ordered 4 things and all of them were pretty good. We got the Tempura Oysters which were excellent and not greasy at all. The Tiradito Boticario was my favorite. Great texture and flavor without being overwhelmed with sauce. The Camarones Boticario were also quite good. My wife had the Ceviche Boticario and said it was on point. I drank mostly beer which was Corona and I had a glass of white wine. The wine list was limited but they really specialize in their drinks which looked fantastic. We would recommend this place to anyone.

We were very happy that is open now! I decided to start off with the "Mieles De Maria Sabina" A wonderful mix of 400 Conejos Mezcal, Ancho Reyes, cranberry juice and a "homemade punch". It was very refreshing, well balanced and came in a really cool glass! My second drink was the "Amarra Hombres Cascados". Gin, Aperol, grapefruit juice. It too hit the spot on a really hot day. Definitely a place we will hit when we need a good cocktail!

This is a very cool place. I do have to say the menu has changed. A number of previous pictures…read morethat people posted here of there food is not available on the new menus. But the dinner my daughter and I had was delicious. We were seated right away. Up to the roof top we go. There are 4 levels to this restaurant. Each has their own vibe. The service was top notch, always attentive to our needs. Everyone was very friendly here. This restaurant is great for large groups. They have a number of rooms that can accommodate 15 to 20 people in an intimate setting. The roof top view is cool if you are a people watcher. Give it a try, you will be glad you did.

Out front of Good Burger, it was hard to tease out which menu was for what restaurant, but I guess it didn't matter because the second floor was the bar where the night cap was made and brought upstairs. Up on the rooftop, the setting was whimsical, naturey, romantic. It was great to sit on cushiony seats under dim lighting with lots of greens hanging above and on the walls. The street view below was, well, of the street. For a weekend night, it was desolate and for awhile, we had the whole roof to ourselves (minus the two servers with nothing to do). For my one drink, I selected a mojito swoon (ginger, lime). It was pretty much a very refreshing lemonade with only a slight hint of alcohol - but that's the theme in most cocktails I had in Tulum. Our poor waitress came by several times to check in on us out of boredom, which was nice, but also weird at the same time given it was clear the place was dead, so it seemed like she was coming to our table too often.

Note: they recently changed location, to a small spot next to Fat Tuesday. Still on the main city…read morepark, close to center of the port area. Drinks: delicious! We tried a few of their mixed drinks, all are absolutely delicious, well made with quality ingredients. $10-$15 per drink is not cheap for Mexico, but this is a touristy town and the shitty cruise bars are all expensive. What we like the most is their mezcal quality and variety , which is what we came for. They have more "in the back" somewhere since the bar is really small. Food: meh. Not fresh nor exciting. Don't bother. Ambience: this is a really small area, 2 tables and a bar sitting. At max 10-12 people elbow to elbow. Cool decorations though, not at all touristy and "cheap" like most of Cozumel bar scene. We really enjoyed our visit. Service: we came on a Friday early afternoon and there was only one other tourist group. The bartender was great! Really young (20 yo!!!!), but apparently he has been doing the job for more than 5 years. (I guess the legal drinking age in Mexico is just a suggestion) Overall this was one of the highlight of our visit. Will come back here again if we are ever in the area.

The selection of agave based liquor was immense and Israel was a wealth of knowledge. I tried at least 8 different agave products. Unfortunately we had eaten before we came but did try the traditional snacks (I.e, bugs) with guacamole and the coconut ice cream which was amazing.
