They were ok. I drive by this place daily and decided to finally stop for lunch one day with my husband. It looks like they do a lot of catering as they had a TON of catering boxes stacked up inside. Those big plastic rolley ones that keep food hot. Anyways, I got chicken tacos. They had decent flavor but just felt like something was missing. My adult sons recently visited Chef Taco where they experienced unwarranted rudeness, and customers were being served based on their appearance rather than on a fair basis. They spoke Spanish and insulted them not being aware that they can understand even if they look white. This discriminatory practice is disheartening and goes against the principles of good customer service. The sauces they provide are very flavorous and not watered down. The only down side is that one of the main "cooks", if you will, doesn't wear his mask while taking orders or while handling food. El Chef Tacos is the latest eatery to reside at Beach and Hazard, you can't miss it, it's on the east side next to that awful Popeye's. I really liked the décor of the place, and was immediately greeted by a friendly server. I noticed that the food was sitting in serving trays and started to make a decision, to which the server guided me toward the Baracoa for a protein. We ordered the following: Street Baracoa tacos: 3 stars, 2 stars for the flavor, and an extra star for the portion size: I thought these were just ok. I liked the portion size; I appreciated it since I could tell the server hooked them up a bit. The meat was dry to me; thankfully the server gave us a container of broth to use for our tacos. I got the fixings on the side, but again the tacos were ok, not sure that I would order that again. Chicken quesadilla: 4 stars, 3 stars for the flavor, and an extra star the portion size. I really liked how they had the quesadilla filled up with chicken, and they provided lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. I would order this again for sure. Overall I would say this experience is just OK. I know of plenty of places that prepare your food when you order, and I am starting to really taste the difference. The side of Guac was only $2 so I should have known it would not be good. The salsa bar was good I tried all their salsa and like the green the best. The chips were out of a bag I am sure! The Tacos...well they were on regular sized tortillas and the 2 Asada Tacos were ok...2 stars for them! The real issue I had was with the Chicken Taco...I could bot believe my eyes. This was my first time here. Upon entering, it is actually quite confusing how you order. Rather than having a go-as-you-order setup (Like Chipotle or Chronic Tacos), you are prompted to make your complete order at the cash register. This is confusing based on how the restaurant is organized. One part of the ordering that I found bothersome was that the cashier asked me, "Black beans or Pinto beans?" to which I responded, "Pinto."However, they do not mention that the beans are "Refried Beans." These are not the same; please specify them. I order a burrito with everything. Also, they do not ask whether the food is to eat at their establishment or to go. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is frigid, some typical Latino radio station is playing but nothing special. You have a clear view of the kitchen and how your food is being prepared. One thing that caught my eye was that the tortillas they use are essentially low grade, low tier, run-of-the-mill, genetic tortillas, really crappy quality. When the employee was preparing my food, they proceeded to touch their face and glasses while handling my food (without gloves), disgusting. In addition, the employee was not wearing a hairnet or hat as FDA's Food Code requires. The approximate waiting time was about 8 minutes to receive my food. Upon receiving my burrito, I saw that it did not have any girth (thickness) to it. When taking the first bite, I realized two things: the meat had absolutely no taste and there was way too much onion. For the same price of $8-$9, you can get a much better burrito from Sabrosada, Chipotle, etc. I won't be coming back. read more

"El Chef Tacos" is a mid-quality roadside taqueria on Beach Blvd in south-central Westminster, Orange County, California. I eat there often, as I live about 100 meters away. I've had mixed results eating there over the last 5 years. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes not. Sometimes the service is good, sometimes not. Some of the employees speak fluent English, some very little. I'll often cruise by and look in and see who is working there; if some of the more-competent crew are working there (especially the middle-aged Hispanic woman with dark hair in bangs on her forehead; she knows how to manage a kitchen), I'll drop in for supper; otherwise, I'll usually go elsewhere (such as Uncle Pete's Cafe two blocks north, or Rodrigos on Goldenwest & Bolsa). Foods El Chef typically does well at are tacos, nachos, and combination plates (carne asada, carnitas, al pastor, lengua, pollo). These are usually delicious. Foods they routinely cook badly include enchiladas (always drenched in nearly an entire cup of cold enchilada sauce, so they're always cold, soggy, and sour). The decor used to be nice (light colors, well-lit), but after they "remodeled" circa 2015, the decor has been horrible (ceiling painted black, walls blood red, lighting is dim, hard to see anything). So, my over-all grade for this place is "C" or "3 stars out of 5". If you're in the neighborhood and hungry for a quick bite of Mexican food, drop on by; but come early (6PM) as they usually close earlier than their posted closing times, and stay away from the enchiladas. read more
