My family and I have been here several times. The food is very good. However I can't say the same about the staff. As we were getting our drinks served to us the server accidentally spill a soda on top of my 3 year old sons head. (Accidents happen. No big deal). The staff working at the counter, young males and females though it quite funny too see my son start crying having ice and cold soda dumped on his head and down his back. When ask why they would laugh they all denied it. I am in no way looking for a hand out from anyone. But the staff didn't even apologize. After we finished we received our tab and paid it with tip. The staff should receive some type of training on manners. Will not recommend or go back. read more

Went to El Charro for a work lunch on a Tuesday and it was a very cute, quaint restaurant. I got the burrito bowl with chicken and it was good. The waitress was friendly and quick. Their margaritas are delish! The biggest reason I gave 4 stars is because I wanted to sit in their patio, but they said it wasn't open. read more

Worst service ever. Waited 20 minutes for our drink order. Waitress took the order of two parties that came in after us. The bus boy ended up taking our order. She completely ignored us, but was able to smile and chat it up with the other two tables. We will NEVER go there again. The vibe is palpable!!! read more

After having the chicken mole enchiladas last time, I wanted to try something else. So I ordered the shrimp & crab chimichanga. I forget what its name on the menu was, and I think it was $13.50. At that price point, I wasn't expecting real crab. But I was hopeful. While we were waiting for our food to arrive, we started munching on tortilla chips. They were hot and fresh, excellent! The salsa was pretty good, but a little too watery for me. We mowed though a few baskets without much effort. As I expected, the chimichanga was filled with imitation crab. Good thing I like imitation crab. I wish this would have been mentioned on the menu. The chimichanga was very good, but it didn't knock my socks off. Perhaps because I was hoping for real crab. I took my sister to El Charro restaurant in Turlock today because it's been a while since I was there and my sister had never been. When chips and salsa were brought to our table, I noticed a few chips with salsa (still wet) on several chips. As I picked them out to set aside, I noticed several other chips that had dried salsa on them . That's a deal killer for me. I politely asked the server if they recycled their chips because they salsa on them. Of course he said no and then brought som fresh hot chips. The food was really good but I likely wouldn't go back. Worst customer service ever!! Waited over 20 minutes just to get our waters to the table and another another 10 minutes to take our order for appetizers and mixed drinks...15 minutes later no drinks, no appetizers, and still no one had taken our lunch order. Our party of 6 was starving so we all got up and told our hostess we were leaving due to the poor service. He charged us $18 for the chips/salsa and drinks we had not received! Ridiculous!!! First time there. Ordered combo plate to try out their food. Shredded beef taco, chili relleno, chicken enchilada all very good, flavorful. Can never decide on red or green sauce so I go half and half. Food was very fresh and plenty of it. Plenty of salsa and chips again all fresh. Just missed having Dos XXX so had a Modelo. However, we will be going back there soon. Friendly staff, great service, didn't wait long at all for our food even though the place was full. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

They do get quite busy, so sometimes the food might take awhile to come out to the table but I think it's worth the wait. I see some complaints about the servers being rude but that has never been my experience here. I've been coming for years. read more

The food is very good here. The service is also very good. It's an older place so maybe the ambience is more of the "hole in the wall" variety but that's really kind of it's charm. Great carnitas, burritos, chimichangas and molcajete. They do great shrimp cocktails and even a fried bacon wrapped shrimp (don't recall the name). They make great margaritas - get La Perfecta, it's made with agave nectar. Also on tap beers are really good - usually have XX Amber or Modelo (Negra or Especial) which are my favorites. They close today 2021 on Christmas Eve at 2 and we called to place an order at 11:56 to go and they said they are not taking anymore Togo orders only dine in. And during the week they stop answering the phones At a certain time for Togos never have I ever heard of a business doing this. I don't care how good they are they are starting to lose my business and my family goes in there and spend good money. So disapointed. read more

Read some reviews and thought I would give this place a try and as soon as I walked in I was very disappointed. I basically seated my self and my toddler 2 years old down I grabbed a paper menu while I was waiting and never received an actual menu. The server came around to ask if any one took.my order and I hadn't even gotten an.actual menu. My food didn't get to my table for 40!! Minutes.. My new favorite restaurant in Turlock! My wife came Thursday evening with some friends. She was impressed with their Thursday night $1.00 margarita special and their salsa & chips. So impressed that she convinced me to drive from Los Banos to try it out. I'm glad I did. I was having a hard time deciding and asked our server what her favorite was. With much enthusiasm she recommended the TEQUILA LIME CHICKEN. That isn't what I would normally order, but she really seemed to like it herself. I also added on the green salad for something like a buck fifty more. The salad was very good and big enough that my wife and I shared it as an appetizer along with the complimentary chips and salsa. Our server was very friendly and attentive and my food came at the right time. It did take a few minutes for my wife's torta to come out. Not too long, but long enough for my wife to have time to try my chicken and offer to trade me for her sandwich. Her chicken torta came soon enough. It was very tasty too. It was also a very healthy portion and she was only able to finish half of it. The beans and rice were also delicious. I'll have to say, that is probably the best chicken I've ever had at a restaurant. -The service was good. -Drinks were tasty and reasonably priced. -Food was awesome! I'll be back soon. I understand the need for small businesses to get back to normal but if you are going to operate against the county mandated order and serve guests inside at least adhere to some guidelines. Most times the restaurant exceeds a 25% capacity and packs guests in. There is no adherence to masks; guests and staff included. This has been our go to restaurant for many years but this disappoints me. I choose not to return. read more

This place bumped my number #1 Mexican restaurant to 2nd place. Their servings are huge and their food is delicious. The Burrito Zapata is super good it has carne asada, chorizo and bacon with beans and rice....they also have them in taco form and those are my favorite. Their staff is friendly and they have your food ready at the time they tell you it will be ready. We haven't been disappointed. read more
