At this restaurant, YOU ARE PAYING FOR AESTHETICS!!! The house margarita was small and tasted like sprite. The large guacamole was $10 for what could be described as a puréed mess of avocado begging for lime and other essential ingredients. It was ALSO the size of a small guac from chipotle or very small cup of soup. I could make 3x that amount with $10. Didn't bother ordering anymore food from our VERY rude waitress. She never checked on us or asked how our food or drinks were. The waitress kept asking if we wanted to order more or not (we politely declined multiple times). I do not recommend this place if you want good Mexican food for a fair cost. I DO recommend this place if you want to post a picture on Instagram of the restaurant- but definitely not of the food. read more

This was our first time to try this place and it was great! We got shrimp fajitas and the flavors and portion size can't be beat. Great blackened spice on the shrimp so you didn't need to add anything else but the salsa is bright and fresh. The frozen margarita tastes homemade and not super sweet like some make them. As a server myself, I never write negative reviews, but this one is warranted. Our server was extremely rude. We weren't demanding, but when we asked for one appetizer, he blankly nodded and walked away. He never even properly greeted us, just dropped the menus on the table. After he took our order and after the food runner brought our food out, he didn't check on us once, just rushed past our table multiple times. At the end of our meal, he didn't ask if we wanted dessert or even how our food was, he just dropped the check on the table. The entirety of our visit, he was solemn, annoyed and not good at concealing the fact that he was just waiting for us to leave. I have never felt like more unwanted and like an inconvenience at a restaurant than I did last night. What a beautiful place! Drinks and the trio of salsas were a good start. The server was new and we pointed and showed what we wanted on the menu. We asked 3 servers which salsa is which on the trio and no one could answer. The food arrived and that's where it went down hill! The fajitas were missing plus something else the serve called fajitas arrived. ( not sizzling fajitas). The short rib plate was tough. The Mexican street corn was bad. The flautas were the only thing ok. Come to find out the fajitas were never rang in. We ask to speak to the manager. We told him how new servers need a supervision and clearly our serve had been thrown to the wolfs. Then, after we said all of this we are told the person we are speaking with is the bar tender and there is no owner or manager there. Let me tell you a lot of money went into this place and no management in sight, makes you wonder. My suggestion don't visit for a couple of months. Very unfriendly host and staff at the front of the house. We arrived and knew we would have to wait a while. Received the text that our table was ready. Entire party sat in the foyer for over another 30 minutes as multiple parties were seated before us. We continued to inquire about it and kept being put off. Not a friendly, welcoming experience. Food was average. Seemed overwhelmed and under staffed. Our poor waiter was running around, sweating profusely and kept apologizing. Food took over an hour to receive, no drink refills, and one basket of chips for 9 people. And two plates were totally wrong after waiting from beginning (arriving) to end (food delivered to table) about two hours. I love the food but the manager who works the front is so inappropriately rude. Every time I come into the restaurant, he is nose up, unhelpful, and clearly annoyed by your attendance. It is sad that this is what is being run at the front face of El Charro because like I said the food is good but I don't want to bring my business or recommend it if it's such an inconvenience for me being there for him. It's unbelievable how rude he can be when it is busy too wouldn't you expect to control ones temper especially when oxford is always busy on the weekends and every single local is aware of this. The best Mexican restaurant in Oxford! They treat you like family, and the food tastes incredible! Both the managers and the wait staff are genuinely interested in making sure that you have a great dining experience. The menu includes items that are not available anywhere else. We were seated. Served chips. Placed our order. Then waited two hours to be told every fifteen minutes that our food for a table of 4 would "be ready in just a few minutes." We watched two entire sections of the restaurant get fed, eat, and leave. It was only after *WE* got up and APPROACHED Manager R.Jr. that he disclosed that they had "lost our order ticket" and oops so sorry. Are you kidding me? You managed to feed ten other tables. You couldn't ask us what we ordered when you realized your error? Our waiter kept telling us the same crap for over an hour. We left without eating. Not only that, the table next to us were served two different WRONG orders of tacos with nothing but cheese. They forgot the meat not once, but twice, and ended up getting their check comped. Horrible service! Our server made our family feel like we were a burden to her. The entire staff seemed like they had no idea what was going on. They could not answer a single question about the menu. They also told us they were out of drink menus, and could not answer what types of drinks/ flavors they did have.
