    Deep fried ice cream

The restaurant was impeccably clean. The hostess, who also served our table, was gracious and attentive. Chips and salsa were adequate, though unremarkable. Entrées were presented in a traditional Mexican style and executed reasonably well given the northern Minnesota location. However, the food lacked authenticity--flavors were muted, and the "spicy" salsa fell short. The dessert lacked clarity and key ingredients, contributing to an overall sense of inauthenticity. The "deep fried ice cream" was simply a scoop of vanilla served in the same tortilla bowl that the taco salad was served in.

So you may recognize this building as the Country Kitchen, but it is not this no more. It is now El Charro. At 4pm the hostess was able to seat myself, my wife, and 2 of our children immediately at a booth. As you sit and look around it doesn't really remind you of a Mexican restaurant. If it is, it's the most modernized one I have ever seen. With hard wooden tables and black leather upholstery, it comes out to be very elegant and classy. Wouldn't you know it, I came in during happy hour which was a $1 off all of their domestic beers! With the steak fajitas I had myself some corona. As the saying goes, "when in Rome..." haha Anyway, the food came out piping hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. My hostess also became my server, and she was constantly on the move. Absolutely professional, made great suggestions, was so kind towards our family and patient as we all took a moment to look at the menu. I was very happy with our service and will absolutely come back to eat here. On the menu board in front of the host stand there is a special that goes on everyday.

First of all there was a nice large selection of options, some breakfast items & some lunch options with some unique options such as Scottish Eggs ( Hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage & deep fried ). Everything was hot and very good while the crew did a nice job of refilling the containers when they were empty or getting low. We absolutely will come back next time we are in the area.

The atmosphere is very 'northern MN', fireplace, stone, log cabin walls,... very cozy. I chose the soup and salad lunch special. Soup was chicken and dumpling. It was robust and service nice and hot with oyster crackers. Bit salty though. The garden salad was good with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers (onions as well but a bit too many of those). Croutons were soft and would be much better if they were crispy. There were lots of sandwich choices and husband had the Club which was good and served with kettle chips. Nice lunch. Service was excellent. Beautiful views of the course from the clubhouse.

First, the coffee was divine. I had an iced latte and the coffee flavor just punched through the milk. SO good. Second the shop was very cute inside and super nice counter staff. And for me, part of the experience is slowing down to enjoy the moment. No small part of that enjoyment comes from drinking my coffee in a proper vessel. It could be a ceramic coffee cup, or a bowl, or a heavy glass, or a demitasse cup on a saucer. Different shops can have their own style, but if you refuse to serve a well crafted drink in something other than paper, that's an issue for me. Especially when the proper cups are right there! I see them. And I get that washing dishes can be a pain in the neck, but coffee shops can charge what they charge for beans and water because they are providing an experience. Sorry. Thanks for hearing me out. Beyond that, this place is lovely. The people are friendly, which should not be a surprise in Minnesota. The cortado was good, but hard to fully appreciate or evaluate in its sad little paper cup. My family was happy with their drinks. And the outdoor space is simply magical. This is a tucked away little modern coffee oasis in a remote part of Minnesota and I'm very glad it exists and can provide me and others the energy boost needed after hours of nature walks in the area.
