Nice location, but parking can become tricky depending on the time and day. But it is good size.

It used to be a hospital back in the day, so it's space was planned out perfectly. The city and people of Albany are able to use the rooms within there to do a lot of different activities not just as a library, but as a service to the community itself. The last time I went in for one of these, not looking for a book was when we had the Medicare. Meeting where they explained how Medicare works and all the different parts of it to anybody who's headed to that age that needs to be educated on how it works. People hung onto every word of it right there. They usually side rooms for wonderful things like that it's very informative. The library itself isn't huge like some public libraries in big cities, but it offers everything that everyone would need for a small community surrounding it. And I like the people that work there they're very courteous and helpful. It's always clean and there's plenty of space and I see all the tables are occupied by kids students and adults all working side-by-side together going through their books writing their papers all the different activities that are found in the library. It's a very modern design of a building and it offers so much to anybody that comes in there. Check their schedule of events there might be something for you.

I hardly expect to be treated like best friends, but I will always be polite. I've read this diatribe and I can see why this person was banned. If you don't like the library there are many others to visit--Albany, Berkeley Main, Oakland, El Cerrito. And this is just one opinion and nasty at that. If I didn't like it, I would just go elsewhere.

Filthy green chairs, uncomfortable…read morewooden chairs, little insulation, not enough space for books, magazines and newspapers, an intimidating security guard (the tall one), a Supervisor whose main skill seems to be as 'enforcer', certain smelly, homeless people who are a health issue which needs attention, a disrespectful staffer, etc. And worse yet: if you criticize and complain seriously in writing you will be suspended ie denied access to the library for a time -with no reason or explanation given. This is an abuse of power in my view. I couldn't believe this was happening in Berkeley - I can't make this stuff up! (It was yours truly who got 'banned' for simple free expression and bringing various issues to light, in writing)

I think the EPA occupies some of the buildings as well. I've worked in a School of Public Health lab at Richmond Field Station since June 2010. Basically, it's just a giant field with a eucalyptus grove and a lot of bungalow-looking buildings. So why go to RFS if you don't work there? It has an awesome view of the bay and the San Francisco skyline! Additionally, there is some interesting ecosystem restoration work going on there. A blasting cap factory used to operate the land, and there are efforts now to restore parts of it back to its marshy roots. There are also some open fields and perhaps a library of sorts? To be honest, I haven't ventured too far out of my lab's corner of RFS. There is a campus bus route that runs to RFS during normal working hours. Unfortunately, you can't use your Cal1 Card to take the shuttle for free (why?!), so it costs $1.50. Or, you can just drive there! As far as I can tell, the gates are open from about 8-5 Monday to Friday. After that, you need a card to enter.

I'm familiar with the graduate art studio facilities housed here. An interesting place where art students can practice their craft and get seminars and input from professional artists. Unique, also in that it's surrounded by preserved marsh/bayland which involves conducting building engineering testing, forestry products research, transportation studies and environmental research at a number of facilities nearby.

I sometimes mention Berkeley first or mention Albany Hill or the Race Track. It also borders Berkeley, El Cerrito, Richmond, and Kensington. Gayle also scoffs when I sometimes tell her that Albany in some ways reminds me of Iowa. She sees an "urban and gritty" East Bay suburb, while I feel that I'm living in a small town with friendly neighbours and a sense of cohesion. We Albanians are passionate about several things. The composition of the City Council changes with the popular issues of the day (like the Waterfront), but those meetings haven't been the same since Dario Mendiketti passed away. We like our services (including schools) and we're willing to vote for most if not all parcel taxes and bond measures put before us. What I appreciate personally is my neighbourhood and local park, the Solano Stroll, the walking distance availability to several things, the Community Center and Library, and the Teen Center services.
