So delicious. We were visiting San Diego and wanted an authentic Mexican breakfast- we found it! The food is prepared fresh and everything was delicious. Very good service also.
First time here in the area !! Amazing service food was SO GOOD ! we go to every chilaquiles spot around and this one has been by far the best one . Cucumber agua Fresca is so refreshing. Food is absolutely delicious. Can't recommend this spot enough. Will be coming back !! . Ambiance was really pretty and you can tell the owner really cares about the business and customer service . 10/10
Overall I was happy with this restaurant. They offer indoor or outdoor seating options. The place feels like a vibe, cute decor and a DJ. This spot is a walk up & order similar to taco shop but once your meal is ready the staff brings it out to you. The service was friendly and accommodating to show where the water is & cleaning your table. I enjoyed the food it all had great flavor. The beans didn't seem homemade but yet were good. I will come back to enjoy the vibe & other options. P.S. Barrio Logan have a lot of new shops & restaurant mostly owned by Mexican American. Please support our community, they take so much pride in what they do.
Still delicious! I took my father in law for his first ever chilaquiles. el Carrito did not disappoint. I love the paper cafeteria plates, so old school. These have the right amount of spice, frijoles are creamy and just the right amount of potatoes. What better way to compliment breakfast than w Mex Coke. This place is spectacular. I'm not even exaggerating. Every single thing was so full of flavor & really made me tear up. The owner and cooks are friendly and luckily I got there early and we spent a good 5 minutes talking. The inside of restaurant is a piece of art itself, it's beautiful! They did a great job with this one because you'd never expect to find this place in that area. Take your time and look up the history of this place if you can. It's truly a gem.
Santanas burrito had excellent flavor, shrimp cooked perfectly, asada was tasty, fish taco was hot, fresh toppings on it, chilaquiles were also excellent. Red and green sauce were homemade, beans were great, potatoes had very good flavor, eggs cooked perfectly. The workers were all very friendly and were passionate about the food. You could tell. Inside was spotless, indoor and outdoor seating.
I was really looking forward to Mexican food and decided to try El Carrito in Barrio Logan. We ordered the enchiladas, Chilaquiles Chicanos, and a carnitas taco. Overall, the food was average (and a bit disappointing). The enchilada sauce lacked a bit of flavor, and the meat inside was kind of bland. The rice looked like it had been sitting for a while, some grains were hard and dry. The chilaquiles were okay. It didn't fully satisfy, though the machaca had good flavor. Service was a mix. Nice staff. However we waited over 30 minutes for our food. One positive was being able to refill our agua de horchata. The restaurant has eclectic décor and plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors.
I remember coming here years ago with my dad, we sat in the main compartment-- known as their trolley car seating area. And I recently went again, but since I was with a large group we sat in their extended seating area. This area could hold a lot of people! There was also seating outside in front of the establishment, but with smaller tables (seats 4 people at most). The workers are kind & if you want any recommendations they will give it to you. Their menu is big, some prices might look high-- but you actually get a variety of items with it that makes it worth it. I ordered 2 carnitas tacos since I wasn't super hungry for a burrito. The tacos were perfectly sized and stuffed with meat. The onions were crunchy but without that raw onion bite-- which is why I ate them. (: usually I take the onions off, but not this time. In addition, the guac was vibrant and fresh. I also liked the tortillas because it wasn't thin & broke when you bend it. It was slightly thicker than your usual and had a softness to it. The salsa that came with it was slightly smoky but not spicy. My friends ordered a variety of items off the menu and devoured it! So it's safe to say, you'll be good with anything you order. One friend even ordered pancakes! She said it was fluffy and the bacon/eggs were delicious. The cucumber agua that they had was well loved by everyone that ordered it, some went back for seconds. I recommend El Carrito if you're in Barrio Logan!
This has always been a great breakfast spot and today was no different. I had a shrimp, mushroom, onion and spinach omelette that was very good. The beans were a little under seasoned but still good. Service is always kind and friendly. You do need to come checkout the inside of this place. It's a work of art.

Fresh, crispy tortilla chips layered with two savory and complex sauces (guajillo and poblano) so much depth of flavor in the sauces - THE SAUCE IS WHERE ITS AT - along with cheese, crema, onion, cilantro, and eggs! Comes w/rice, beans, and potatoes! I love adding avocado - they also make a damn good michelada with Mexican candy piled on top! We were in Socal from NorCal celebrating our anniversary and on my list was to bring my husband to Chicano Park so he could experience it for the first time. I love me some chilaquiles and this place has the best I've had in Cali!! The service is basically order at front and wait for food. The place is cute with funny quotes. I enjoy this place and the food won't disappoint!! I recommend it!! Check it out and come get you some Chicano experience!! If you leave room go the fish guys for some of the best fish tacos you have ever had!!

Came here on El Barrio Logan Di de Los Muertos Event. Really busy Day. This was a busy business but they were fast. They were cooking all the food they had good really good customer service even when they accidentally forgot someone item they got it fast! Omg I got a Torta and it was Delicious!!! I ate that fast ! We came here because we wanted tacos and Salud had closed down on us. We saw the reviews were decent so decided to check it out. It seems like a tiny place but they have seating in the patio inside and that area is actually very nice! They have created an outdoor garden space, which feels airy and big as compared to the inside space. You order at the counter and then choose a table. We ordered 3 tacos - the asada, the chorizo and the fish. The tacos were good...not as good as Salud (which is/was my favorite) but pretty good. The chorizo was the best followed by the fish and then the asada. The side of Spanish rice was very good. The beans were fine. The salsas were good! All in all, this was a surprisingly good experience. read more

Not my favorite spot for mexican. I ordered the grilled chicken enchiladas. Presentation was great but honestly I thought the dish itself was pretty dry, even with the salsa verde and sour cream drizzle. The ceviche also could have used an extra tostada to balance out the ratio. I liked that water cups were available and the service wasn't super slow. The inside was pretty warm but luckily they have outside seating as well (unfortunately angled due to the pavement, so a bit uncomfortable). read more

We had breakfast El Carrito which part of it is an old train cart!. The Chilaquiles were soo dang good! Actually the whole dish was!. We had the Cafe de olla with our breakfast all hitting just right!. The ambience was nice and bright in the back patio area a lot of art even seen some are from one of our Coachella Valley artist. This place is so cute, the first building is trolley car, that used to run up and down the street in that neighborhood before all were removed. The history about the restaurant and the owners is magical. You feel like you're a part of history cherishing those that came before you. You stand in line and order and they bring everything to you. I love the menu and the play on words. I was sold on getting the Chilla Killaz, called La Chicana, but changed my mind for the tostada with black beans, cotija, pickled onions, sour cream with a very simple garnish. Food was authentic. My favorite were the beans it has a rich flavor. I ordered the chilaKillers divorciados and it came with 2 eggs, potatoes, and beans. Perfect plate. The service was good everyone was friendly and attentive. Kid friendly- they put on tom and Jerry for my kids while we ate in the indoor patio. Oh I almost forgot the Cade de ola is BOMB- so good reminded me of when we had it en el DF. read more

Mexicana here and unfortunately this place is definitely for non ethnic foodies. The service is not there and the food was flavorless. I ordered red chilaquiles and it said made with guajillo sauce, which I'm pretty sure they were not and just used the powder chili mix because it had no flavor whatsoever. It is very sad to see places use false advertising with their food. Again for anyone who doesn't cook or is not a foodie, it'll be good enough. For me, won't be visiting again. As for service, we were only greeted and sat for 20 min no one came. We had no clue we had to order up at the front, unfortunately the place was totally empty as we visited around 11 for brunch and not a soul in sight. I guess they have built a reputation but that's why I wanted to try it (visiting from AZ) and it was definitely a let down. read more

A small trolley car diner in the heart of Barrio Logan was refurbished by new ownership. There were five tables inside for seating and another three tables outside on the sidewalk. Breakfast and lunch were served throughout the operating hours of 8 am to 3 pm on Monday to Thursday and 8 am to 5:30 pm on Friday to Sunday. Parking on Logan Avenue was all curbside. A burrito was my initial thought when I came during a lunch hour. After scouring the menu, I switched to the steak and huevos which was going to be a little lighter than a burrito. The dish came with refried beans, potatoes, and a tortilla. The tortilla was very fresh and soft which made a difference in how quickly I was able to finish the meal. The prices were similar to the nearby competition on the same street. The reopening of this diner was a welcome addition to the growing selection of eating and drinking establishments in this neighborhood. I would return if they expanded the business hours to include dinner service. read more

We can here with our dog and sat outside. The place is very dog friendly and the servers are wonderful. I took a peek inside the garden patio. And it did not disappoint. Food is from 1-6 a solid 6 It's missing that taste that feels authentic. Service good because you order at counter sit outside and wait to be served. Drinks I can speak for the Green Juice, more like green sugar. Not good at all. read more
I was in the area around lunch time and this shop was the only restaurant open on the street that seemed appetizing. I was the only person in there, almost at 3pm, so I was attended to immediately. I placed my order at the cashier, the young lady taking my order recommended the el jefe. Shoutout to her because the burrito was delicious! I was starved but luckily the service was super quick! I don't even think it took longer than 5 minutes. I sat in the back area which was spacious and covered so it wasn't too sunny, thank goodness because the San Diego sun in the summer is a doozy! I didn't particularly like the loud banda music playing but expected from a Mexican restaurant. The one complaint I had is that the bathroom door could not open, there's no handle so it is tricky.
