Margaritas (both on the rocks and blended) were very good. The blended was smoother than any Ive ever had before. Chips had a strong corn flavor, but the bowl was half full for three people and had enough broken pieces to suggest we'd gotten to the bottom of the bag. The salsa was delicious, with just a hint of heat. Entrees included a Pizza Birria, which was like a quesadilla, but more interesting. The tortilla had a well-cooked look to it, the center layer of braised beef, cheese and onions was thick enough to satisfy even the hungriest. The majority was taken home in leftovers. Another "never before seen" items was the chimichanga -- available soft or fried. What? A chimichanga is a FRIED burrito. If its not fried, its a burrito. Which, soft in this version, looked and was delicious, but I'm still confused. Finally, my Chicken Mole Poblano. So Much Food! And it was yummy! Slightly sweeter than what I'm used to, but trust me when I say I scarfed almost all of it down -- without the tortillas. A great night out, I know more family will visit it this week. I think I'd like to go back.

You were always greeted quickly with chips and salsa and it doesn't take very long for your food to come. I was there at lunch on a Saturday and we were able to order off the lunch menu. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. It came with a side of rice and a salad, but I was offered rice and beans, but I chose the rice with the salad. My family member ordered a single relleno and was satisfied with her meal. The atmosphere is fun and lively and I feel that every time just brings me back to good reliable, hard-working people.

The parking lot is empty (not unusual for this time of day) and we're the only customers. Upon entering, the hostess/waitress seemed annoyed we came in, based on her demeanor. I had a sense to walk right out before being seated but I'm starving, so let's see what happens... Not many places charge for a basket of chips and salsa, but here they do ($3.99). I can't recall if that was the case last few times I was here. They were crispy and I did really enjoy the red salsa. I ordered two quesabirria tacos and one chicken taco since they were only available à la cart. The wife got two shrimp tacos. Mine came with a side of consommé that was mostly water and lacked flavor. I had to add salt to the tacos since they needed flavor that the consommé wasn't providing. The salsa Verde that came on the chicken was medium spicy and had a nice kick to it. It actually made me sweat, but in a good way. We ate pretty quickly because I just wasn't feeling a good vibe inside the restaurant. I asked for the check and presented my coupon. While getting checked out at the register, I asked for change for a $20 (for a cash tip) in the form of a 10 and two fives and was presented a 10 a five and five ones. I did not want the one dollar bills because I had several in my pocket already. Again, this waitress either just didn't care or I don't know wtf her problem was. No positive energy at all and left me wondering "why?" Your customers are your livelihood, treat them nicely and they'll keep coming back for more... Not sure we'll be back anytime soon based on the attitude. Food was good, not great. Sorry for the 3 stars, just couldn't "get it up" to 4.

The restaurant itself had a few tables, a frozen ice cream box, video chance games, a huge rack of phone cards and several pictures decorating the walls. Most of the pictures depicted scenes from mexico, such as poncho villa, zapata, rural life, cows, etc... one of the walls was covered in mirrors and had a sombrero hanging on it. They have standard tacos at 2.50 apiece, chicken, beef or pork. We tried several of them. There was also a Torta for 8.50 that was pretty decent. There was some type of hot sauce (Valentina brand) here that that we put on it made it significantly better. The helado de fresa or strawberry ice cream ($1.50) balanced it out. We also had the Bistek Ranchero: it came with 6 yellow corn tortillas, onions, cilantro, beans, rice & lots of beef, mixed with red pepper. That cost 14.00 pretty decent if you ask me. What makes this place stand out in my opinion is the " tostada ceviche de camaron " or lime marinaded seafood salad on a deep fried corn tortilla. This item is occasionally also available at competitors but not nearly as good. 5 Stars, incredible food!

I had a hard time seeing this restaurant though because its signage is underwhelming compared to that of its neighbors. There's a small parking lot next to it but it's shared with Rice & Beans, so during peak hours parking might be an issue. Verdadero Sabor replaced another Mexican restaurant in December of 2019, so I'm glad it's survived so far despite a short grand opening prior to the COVID pandemic. Dine in was available on this day with every other table open for seating. I hate the double doors which you have to pull open on your way in but fortunately they do provide hand sanitizer at the register. Both staff behind the counter wore masks which I appreciate. The menu items are very affordable, just about everything is under $10. We ordered Chicken and Steak Fajitas to go. They were ready in about 10 minutes. The fajitas were just OK. They weren't very tasty and the meat was on the dry side, but the salsa saved the day. I wish I had double amount of salsa because it was so good. Overall an OK first outing. I look forward to trying other Mexican dishes from this area.

Inside, the vibe is warm and festive: colorful artwork, low-top tables, a lively bar stocked with tequilas, and gorgeous Moravian star lights glowing overhead. The menu is extensive -- everything from tacos and burritos to rice bowls, full entrées, and massive multi-person feasts served in lava rock molcajetes. Most dishes land around $20, or you can snag tacos individually for $5.50. We started with the Mexican Seafood Dip and wow... game changer. Shrimp, bay scallops, crab, and mushrooms all swimming in a red tomatillo sauce, baked under a gooey blanket of cheese, and served with chips. Unlike so many "seafood" dips that are 90% cheese, El Sol delivers with generous amounts of actual seafood. It was piping hot, hearty, and plentiful -- enough that we happily took leftovers home. For mains, I went with a Birria Taco (plus a trusty Diet Coke). Juicy, cheesy, crispy perfection -- I could've polished off three more but restrained myself. Adventure Buddy chose Camarones A La Diabla -- jumbo Gulf shrimp and mushrooms in a three-chile sauce. Bright red, spicy but not overpowering, and loaded with shrimp that were actually jumbo. He was a happy camper. Our total came to $62 with tip, which felt fair for the quality and portions. Service was attentive and friendly, and the noise level low enough for both conversation and even a quick phone call. Parking is the usual downtown Harrisburg scene -- no on-site lot, but free street parking after 5 and garages nearby make it easy enough. Bottom line: great food, colorful atmosphere, and a menu that's begging us to come back. Next time, I'm eyeing one of those lava rock molcajetes.
