El Cabo Verde exemplifies fresh. It's in a new development that's attractive, clean, and well designed. And that's before you even walk in the front door or take a seat out side. The fresh theme continues with the chips and salsa. All of it's made in house, and these were some of the best chips and salsa I've had in a while. The chips are a light and thin and a little bit tricky to dip without breaking. Two sauces, green and red, are provided and each tastes--not to belabor the term-- fresh. The chile relleno is served on its own in a soup bowl with a light sauce and choice of protein on the outside. The poblano pepper itself is stuffed with cheese, as is proper for chile relleno. Again the sauce, the chili itself, and all the ingredients tasted fresh and light. Unlike most Mexican places, rice and beans is brought on a separate plate and not merged with whatever primary entree you've selected. Here again, fresh: there is rice that's almost like a basmati, and refried black beans that are refreshing change from the typical pinto bean base. Service is prompt, knowledgeable and attentive. I had the pleasure of having Angelo for my waiter. The restaurant staff is predominantly Hispanic, the kind of folks ICE likes to round up. (I really hope this reference become dated real fast). The point is these folks are familiar with Mexican food beyond just the concept of this restaurant. The clientele appears to be primarily local and a steady stream of them were coming through at 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon. Access is convenient from i-49 and not too far from I-20. read more

Solid Mexican spot in Shreveport; service is top notch and the menu is concise and fairly authentic in terms of options in the area. The area is very new and modern and is very nice for Shreveport. Their food is very tasty across the board; their salsa's are legit and it seems like well prepared. The interior is modern and clean and has decent lightning. Staff was very attentive. Got right in. You can reserve a table online. In a cute little area off Southern Loop. They use blue corn tortillas for the tacos. Not my thing but they were good. The Chile relleno was tasty. I got it with beef. It was spicy. The refried black beans were good. The Pechuga A La Crema was my favorite. So creamy. Chicken breast was so moist. The tortilla soup was very good. Most places don't do it right. The sip trio was good. We didn't have room for dessert but it sounded good. Chocolate mousse or caramel flan . This place is a joke. If u plan on eating a full meal DO NOT come here. I ordered the quesadillas and on the menu it says it's an entree but I got 2 tiny quesadillas with maybe 6 pieces of meat, total, the size of my pinky finger nail. But to balance it out they decided to put an insane amount of rice and beans that I didn't even ask for and somehow found a way to charge me 25 dollars. This is a disgrace to Mexican restaurants world wide and I truly hope something changes here and they start serving what is advertised and bring the insanely high prices down. read more

I can't believe that we have never been here before now. Wow! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The presentation was great and the food came out fresh and steaming hot and the chips and 2 Salsas they brought out, just WOW! We had Verde Chicken enchiladas and the Blanco Beef enchiladas and they were both delicious and for dessert, not that we had any room left but we had to see if dessert was as good as our meal and so we ordered the Chocolate Mousse. Went for Saturday brunch. Asked a male at the POS station - do I seat myself or do you seat me? I was told they'd seat me. He was entering an order. Others were running around... No worries I'll wait. Everyone's working. Well, no one cleaned tables and 1 four top table closest to us went unused. He looked up and was shocked none of the tables had been cleared in the back. He walks away (I presume to clean the two back tables). Lady comes up and ask party size? How many? Me: Just 1. Her: looks back, side, all around. Ok, you can go to the back. Points.... doesn't walk me over. Me: proceed to walk to the back and spins around wondering if there more space around the corner? What table is she seeing? I look up to see she's sat the mom and kid that just came and waited less than a minute. Read: they arrived, she stopped to acknowledge, got rid of me, seated them. They got the only empty and clean table. I'll trust this is a family owned place. I'm figuring maybe they've never worked as servers or front of the house manager but I won't stand around in mess awaiting to be treated like someone trying to spend money. Maybe this was a bad day, faux pas or an example of no training or sheer ignorance but it was off-putting for me. To drive 30min/miles for chilaquiles with steak and to be causally dismissed by being sent to purgatory or badlands of back of house without being tended to came off as preferential treatment to those arriving after me having not waited as long as I did but treated with glove service... Prompted me to leave. Hopefully the staff communicates with each other better. Hire more folks. Anticipate brunch crowds. Expect 12 noon to be a peak period or figure out who can be the host/hostess or have seating for dining patrons to wait. Or all of it and create a waiting area but maybe there's another solution...either way I hope they find it + execute it well so there's no hint of improper treatment nor favoritism. Unusual to see a place pulling a clean five star rating on any review site, and I can kind of see why. It's a nice atmosphere at this restaurant that straddles the boundary between catering to college kids and more serious adults, it's got local ingredients, it's entirely gluten-free and has some vegetarian options. The horchata I ordered tasted right, which is to say kind of like egg nog but better, though the ratio of horchata to ice wasn't that high. My spinach enchiladas were good, but they just weren't great. A tad soggy from the beans on the side I think. The best flavors were when I mixed in the bit of guacamole on the side, but I felt like it was otherwise just missing a little extra kick. Indeed nothing was really spicy; the hottest thing was probably the tomatillo salsa that came with my free opening chips. I could probably come back and order differently, maybe get the extra hot sauce, but if I'm going to give them the best rating, everything's got to be just outstanding. It's definitely good enough that I would come back and try to find that perfect dish. read more

We stopped in for dinner on our way home to Texas and had such a nice experience! The restaurant smelled amazing upon entering and was very clean. The hostess greeted us and walked us to a table immediately. Our waiter made awesome recommendations. The tab for three of us was right over $100 and my husband and I each had a premium marg (Hot Skinny and Golden) and we shared a bowl of queso perfection! Our son had Nachos (special order, not on the menu), my husband ordered the chicken enchiladas and I had the Camarones special for the evening, served over plantains and beautifully presented! I went to lunch with my mother in law the other day. We had the dip sampler, and I got the beef enchiladas with red sauce and she got chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The salsas are impeccable. The dip sampler was nice too. The guacamole is salted and taste great with the time. The spinach queso is great and so was the poblano one. I enjoyed the spinach one more. Next time I go I'm gonna get the chorizo queso. It was so good my pregnancy craving had me going back for dinner pickup. We stopped here on a long cross-country roadtrip from San Diego to NC and were really missing good Mexican food from back home, as it's honestly really hard to find authentic Mexican food in the South. I saw this place on Gluten Dude and decided to give it a try, especially seeing that the chef is from Oaxaca! Man, the food did not disappoint at all! I ordered the flautas de pollo, something I have not been able to have since my celiac diagnosis, and my jaw dropped because I could not believe they were really gluten free! I mean the texture was on point, all the flavor was authentic and delicious and it just brought me back to a simpler time of just enjoying food with no regard to whether it contained flour or not. So for the chef to be able to make these gluten free is just incredible. We also stopped on our way back to CA and tried the sampler plate, which was just as amazing. I mean seriously this place could hold if it was located in San Diego, so to come across this gem in Louisiana was such a pleasant surprise! Hats off to the chef! This is THE best restaurant in Shreveport, and more than worth the drive from Bossier. It is an incredible atmosphere and feels like you are on vacation! The service was beyond incredible, and the food was amazing. It came out quick and was is not only the best Mexican food you can get around here, but the best meal all around.
