An Oasis on the outskirts of Central Oaxaca City. It's definitely worth the walk!…read more The Patio is a tropical haven from the heat. You have to try a few items on the menu and share plates. We ordered a few items and were completely satisfied with everything! The food tasted extremely fresh! Just look at the vibrant colors that cover the plates. The Toast Con Pina was a delicious way to finish breakfast, which was served with a side of fruit. I'm not going to describe the food here, because the pictures I was able to capture say it all. The color, the texture, the layers, the aroma...as they say, you eat with your eyes. You can sneak a peek at the ladies in the back making the bread from scratch in an open-space area that's hard to ignore. You are captivated by every inch of this place. The live music by a violinist, just "wow"!!! Oaxaca is represented well by this place!

This hidden gem has a small but diverse menu of fresh and tasty dishes. It's mango season, so I jumped at the salad option. I could have had more jicama, but the salad is a nice change from the meat/tortilla/queso diet I've been on the last week and a half. Ceviche is a big deal in Oaxaca, and this is one of the best I've ever had. The coconut milk is an unexpected and refreshing twist that adds a depth of flavor to this delicious fish. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sauvignon blanc from Baja, California. This lovely Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday and breakfast only on Sunday and Monday. Check the Google Maps listing for hours, that seems to match what's posted at the restaurant. And if you're wondering what a Chepiche is, it's a Mexican herb apparently similar to cilantro often used to season meats. That explains the very herb/vegetable forward menu. Reminds me a lot of California farm-to-fork cuisine. Great Playlist of extremely romantic soft rock/folk music in Spanish. I've been Shazamming almost every song! This is not my cheapest meal in Oaxaca by far, but sometimes self care looks like a date night for one. Thanks, Chepiche Cafe. You were just what I needed and more tonight.

I asked my waiter which he recommend and ultimately went with the short rib with red mole. The red mole was delicious, I'm glad I got a side of tortillas to soak up the last of the mole. The short rib was cooked very well too. The roasted vegetables that came with the meat were delicious as well. It included carrots, corn, zucchini and cauliflower. The cauliflower was pretty bland but the rest of the vegetables were tasty. You must get the mole ice cream. Super unique and delicious. The dessert is served with a plantain and mole sauce as well as the ice cream. They serve complimentary tostadas, salsa and feta cheese. This was nothing special. The salsa was not very good and the feta cheese was an odd touch in my opinion. You can skip this is and save room for your entree and dessert. The inside of the restaurant is very elegant and nice. Mostly open air which I like.

We accidentally stopped in here a few days prior to grab a quick cocktail and lunch and based off of that knew we had to come back for dinner before leaving. The atmosphere like a lot of places in Oaxaca is just stunning covered by plants and beautiful architecture. This place has a really nice variety of Mezcal and traditional yet, creative dishes of Oaxaca. Each of the dishes felt very well crafted and thoughtful. The depth of flavor and everything really was remarkable. We tried some chorizo and queso croquettes a ceviche and a pork shank that you could've used a soft spoon to cut. The service was also very hospitable. One of those type of places you need to stop in. One last thing. Both Yelp and Google have the location wrong but just slightly. As you are walking on the unassuming street/alley you'll see it dip in a little side street with a lil coffee shop and what looks like maybe a dead end. It's actually tucked back there haha!
