I checked out El Batey Mke , the new Puerto Rican tapas and cocktail spot, from the owner of Las Virellas food truck, on Sunday with my gf , and I was very impressed! The cocktails were large and delicious, and the dishes were beautifully presented and tasted amazing! The Montadita de Churrasco is steak topped with chimichurria sitting on top of crispy tostones, the Carne Frita (fried pork cubes) comes with a skewer of perfectly seasoned tostones, and the Alcapurria was probably our favorite dish. It was the best alcapurria I've ever had, just so full of flavor! The Cafe con Ron is their Espresso Martini and their Coquito was also bursting with layers of flavor! They provide a ketchup/mayo dipping sauce, as well as a Guava dipping sauce, which I've never had before and was surprisingly great with the tostones and Carne Frita. They are located at 10th & National and open Thursday through Sunday after 3:00. Check their social media pages to confirm opening time the day you go. It's perfect for date nights or catching up with friends. They have only been open 3 weeks and eventually plan to rotate the menu, as well as add menu items, including desserts. Check them out!

What a great experience! The service, food, atmosphere - all top notch. It brought tears to the eyes of one of the guest bringing her back to her abuela's kitchen. A true gem in the city. Can't wait to return.

Amazing food. 2nd visit had the Cafe Con Ron, excellent, smooth chocolate martini. The food was savory and satisfying. The service is great and lode the quaint, cozy ambiance.

This is a puertorican-owned business that you HAVE to try at least once. So delicious!! We ordered the alcapurrias--sooo tasty with a crunchy outside. The pickled onions on both dishes were a GREAT garnish. My absolute favorite was the Montadito De Churrasco--the meat? SO tender, the sauces drizzled on top were sooo good and the tostones themselves were fried to perfection!!! Ugh I am still thinking about it!! The drinks we tried were all so tasty and good too, seriously. My favorite was the Cafe con Ron because of the chocolate in it. Like an espresso martini, I almost ordered it again but forced myself to try another drink just to try as much as I could, did NOT disappoint either. It was the Mojito E'Parcha and ugh that passion fruit juice was soooo delicious!!! I literally slammed it right away, it was that good. The mint made it even better. From the outside it does not look like much but the inside is so cozy and intimate!! Very limited seating, so they take reservations on their insta @elbateymke The service was great too, they came up as we finished each drink and always made sure we were good with all the things. I'm so excited to come back again and hope they continue to thrive!! You NEED to try this place!!

No…read morefood is off limits for me so I like it all and I really like Puerto Rican food because it's a different style of comfort food compared to us comfort food. The place is small and the waitress didn't speak any English so a nice patron came to my rescue and translated my order, he asked me if I wanted everything on my sandwich and I said yes the was it's supposed to be and don't dumb it down for the Caucasian because I came here for the real deal food. I ordered the Tripleta sandwich with Puerto Rican rice. The Tripleta sandwich is roast pork, steak, ham, ketchmayo, cheese, lettuce and tomato on a roll of some sort. This $10 sandwich is a monster by the way. My first impression is all I taste is pork which I fine because it's good so I open the sandwich and all I see pork with a razor thin random ham piece and no steak at all. Regardless the sandwich was fu#king delicious piled/overflowing with tender pork. The hoagie roll was a great bakery artisan style French bread with a nice thin chewy crust, like my last review the bread really makes or breaks a good sandwich and they nailed this one. The Puerto Rican rice was also fu#king delicious, seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly just past Al dente but far from mush. I eat at so many restaurants and my memory gets hazy over the years but I really think that this was the best Puerto Rican restaurant I have been to and also it's probably what I ordered ala carte vs an entree on the menu.

I stumbled on this Puerto Rican place and I wanted to try it because I don't really see true Puerto Rican places at all come to think of it. I have not had Puerto Rican food since I was a boy eating at my friends house and I can only remember that rice was always on the dish. The place is across from the El Ray food store on 13th St with plenty of street parking. The neighborhood looks a little worse for wear but that is where you can find some of the best ethnic/real food. If there is such a thing as Puerto Rican dive than this place is it with all the artificial trees and roosters all over the place. There is plenty of old green booths and tables on old linoleum floors. Up front is a hot table with empanadas, blood sausage, pork, plantains etc. The older man and woman were very helpful in assisting me with picking out a dish that would be a good representation of Puerto Rican food. The menu has so much that I really don't know what it all was but I probably would have liked all of it no matter what I chose. I chose the Bistec enpanado which is thin breaded steak, Puerto Rican rice and fried plantains with a side of ground beef and cheese empanada. When the plate hit the table it smelled amazing and was plentiful so there would be left overs to relive my lunch again. For the first time I liked the plantains because they were not hard but fried with the texture of a thick slice of cheese. The rice had great texture/flavor and was fluffy with individual grains, no sticky mushy rice here. The breaded steak was very tasty but I can't nail down the flavor profile which bugged me. The empanadas was crispy/golden tasty but they were skimpy on the ground beef and cheese filling because 3/4 of the inside was air, see my pictures. I really liked all the flavors from the dish but I think the nicely seasoned ground beef and cheese empanada was my favorite with the crispy golden she'll. Overall for my first real adult experience with authentic Puerto Rican food I liked it even though the style is not super flavorful with bold tastes or flavors/spices. I would definitely like to get back and try some more of the menu, maybe the roast pork or the cubano sandwich.

Love this place.. Never a bad meal or experience! The hot case is a great go to for a snackread more

McCoco's stood out to me so I decided to give it a try. The service was great- it's a small establishment and once we walked in someone immediately greeting us and sat us down. The ambiance was very pleasant. They had pictures of the Caribbean on all the tvs and it felt very tropical Once we were sitting we got a complimentary bowl of soup. It was so warm and perfect for the cold day. I forgot what it was called but it was very delicious. Food I would say overall was good. I was hoping the tostones to be a bit more crispier and a little more garlicky tho /: My mofongo was good too - again missing just a tad more garlic. The meat was well seasoned and very tasty. My boyfriend got the Jibarito and he basically said the same thing about the garlic and crispiness of the tostones and his jibarito sandwich. I would still recommend this place tho! And I would for sure come again to explore the rest of the menu (: 3 1/2 - 4 stars overall

Tried the Yuca sticks and tostones appetizers and really enjoyed both of them. I'm a big empanada fan so we got some chicken empanadas and they did not disappoint! All told everything we had was fantastic. We will absolutely be back and will have to visit in person one day.
