Well pleasantly surprised that they didn't fry the chips in the same oil as the fried chicken! So they are on top of their gluten free game. We've been stopping here for years so when we rolled into town and saw that the KFC/long Johns was closed I wondered if El Adobe would still be open. Still the same friendly service and lovely surroundings. We weren't terribly hungry having stopped for snacks so we settled on cheese enchiladas and a guacamole salad. They weren't bothered in the least about my questions about what the ingredients were used and knew right away that the guacamole salad would be good for me. The chips were ok. Needed to order spicy salsa...it was good but not the best. Ordered the chimi with fajita beef with rice and beans. No lettuce, tomato, onions, guacamole, sour cream, nothing. Just queso. On the inside was salty grilled beef and mostly cheese...like a couple cows worth of cheese. So much cheese and soggy tortilla, that I picked out the meat. Ate that with the beans. The beans were good but they were not refries or had anything but salt in them. Some cumin and and garlic might have been nice. The "Mexican" rice was the worst. It was like the canned rice we got in the Army. Bleh. I'm from Southern Arizona so I know Mexican food. This did not exist here. The Dos XX was good. Atmosphere is super cute!!! Absolutely loved the patio seating and the waterfall was adorable. Unfortunately there was queso on the inside of my glass and when told the server she tried to scrape it off (which would still be unacceptable if it were on the outside of my glass) but I showed her with my straw on the inside. Sadly my fork and spoon showed residual queso as well. Food was good, but I think needed more of an authentic Mexican spice! Also I noticed some bro's enjoying the football game under the covered patio as well! What a great way to sip and cheer on your team! Easy fixes could make this place great!! read more

Lunch was not good. I ordered a lunch combo with a cheese enchilada and a crispy taco, rice & beans. Easy enough, right? Wrong... Taco shell was stale. Meat inside taco had zero seasoning or flavor. Cheese inside enchilada had odd texture and flavor. Definitely not cheddar cheese. Rice was simply white rice not Mexican rice. Beans where nothing special with zero flavor. I've eaten at El Adobe and enjoyed it since the 70's when it first opened. Recently I was back home for a funeral and decided to have an early dinner the afternoon I arrived. I ordered my favorite Durango dinner and I was shocked at how salty the beans and taco were. I thought maybe the cook had accidentally dumped salt into the pot. Later I mentioned how salty the beans were to my waitress/cashier and she just smiled and nodded. The next day I mentioned my disappointment to a cousin who has moved back to Atoka and he laughed and said he had the same experience. Fantastic experience from start to finish and the queso and salsa were delicious! I wasn't super hungry and ordered a cheese quesadilla and wound up eating the whole thing and my colleague devoured his chicken fajitas--needless to say, it was all soooo good! We sat outside which was really pretty and had an oasis-like vibe bc of the plant and landscaping set-up, plus it started getting dark and the patio lights were on. I have to agree with Mike H, in his review, in that all the proteins seemed to be under seasoned. The ground beef taco meat tasted like it had been boiled without seasoning, and the only thing that saved it was dumping on the table salsa, adding the sour cream, and buying a side of ranch dressing to dose it up. My wife's frajita meat was also underseasoned and adding salt and pepper improved it, but just didn't make the mark. I am pretty sure we'll pass this one up next time we travel by their location. read more

Tina is a rock star! A group of about 25 of us (half kids) came in unannounced and they did not blink an eye. Just cheerfully served us. Tina served us all...even did separate checks. She kept water/tea glasses full and attended to our kids who were sitting at other tables, but kept track so that each kid went on their respective parent's bill. Well the salsa was okay but it went downhill from there. The chips were stale, we asked if we could get some fresh ones and they were stale as well. The food was bland, well except for the overwhelming cheese wiz taste. The service was poor and not very friendly. Not really much good to say. My goodness, where do I start? Upon walking in your greeted by a beautiful and friendly hostess. They have inside and outside seating and on a beautiful day like today, of course I sat outside. The atmosphere inside is so warm and inviting. Also, very clean. EVERYONE from staff to management was so friendly and accommodating. They serve chips and salsa for starters and you can absolutely tell the chips are made in house and that salsa is something special...it has a lovely unique taste (not your ordinary salsa, they put a stamp on it). Prices are very reasonablI ordered the chicken taco meal with rice and beans and added a beef enchilada. I also had a margarita and they made me a small special cocktail on the side (on the house). The food was delicious and everything has its own unique taste, but it is so authentic. My cocktail was perfect and I was also able to meet the owners husband who was sooo awesome. I don't visit OK often, but this is now my definite "go to" spot. I will probably return this evening for dinner. read more

The food is mid at best. The servers wre very sweet until I came across a young man. I don't know his name since he wasn't wearing a name tag but the name on the receipt is Dakota. He completely ruined my visit. Not only did I hear him tell his worker that they were slow and needed to leave the register. He then proceeded to ring up our group and added a tip without asking or saying what he was doing. I witnessed him verbally berate a customer because her face was mean. She said she ordered a lunch menu item and not a dinner item he told her she was hateful and he didn't want her money and threw her money back at her. I have never seen this type of behavior. He took a misunderstanding and completely blew it out of proportion. I also don't appreciate the fact that a tip was added to my card without being told while others who paid cash did not have a tip added. I understand adding a gratuity for a large party but I pay my tips in cash to my servers since they are the ones who did the work. read more

As a native Texan, I am selective when it comes to my Tex-Mex, so I can really only give this a three and a half stars. However, if I ever pass through Atoka again I would definitely go back! The food is very reasonably priced and the atmosphere was unique. The restaurant is located within a building that was once part of the oldest Catholic Church in Choctaw territory! Up in Atoka for the weekend to ride dirt bikes at Shogun MX. I loved this place! The owners introduced themselves and made us feel right at home. Our waitress was also extremely lovely!
