Are cookies the first thing you think about when you think of an organic grocery store? No? Not for…read moreme either, until I was shopping at de bio specialist. Sure, they may not want to be known for their cookies, but OMG, their cookies are amazing. I'm talking about the ones near the register. They had some samples out, the husband and I tried a piece, and we ended up buying two. Chewy, amazing, oatmeal raisin cookies. For that alone, go here! Now, beyond cookies, this is an organic shop that is really top notch. They pack a lot into a little store, and I don't have trouble finding things. It's like they actually think about it and designed the store for ease of use (novel concept, I know!). The brands they stock here are fantastic. They sell about 6 types of lentils, a great selection of fresh produce (some interesting, non-traditional veggies, too!), herbs, spices, almond milk, snacks to go, bread, coconut milk and what seems like almost every type of 'super food' out there. Need nuts, goji berries, red quinoa, black quinoa, white chia seeds? Look no further. If you want it and its organic I bet this place has it. And that is a lot more than I can say for some of the bigger shops like Marqt or Eko Plaza. And....that is not all.....wait for it....wait for it...wait for it.....They are open late. What?! Open late? Like, how late? Like past 9pm on a weekday late? Yes. Yes, you heard me. This store is open late enough for you to go to work, go to the gym and then go grocery shopping. That is a minor miracle in Amsterdam. Also, the people that work here are really friendly. All in all, a very good addition to the 'hood. And they are open late!

The soups are fresh and taste fantastic. We bought groceries here as well and got 1/2 dozen eggs, avocado, sandia, plums, and bread, all for less than 8€. I went here for the first time about a month ago…read more LOCATION: The location is okay. But, it's kind of in a random spot and not in a bustling area of the city, so it may be out of the way for most. 3/5 ATMOSPHERE: The decor was kind of nice and hip, but they need to like do a good dusting or cleaning or something because it looked a little dull and there was a huge spider with a web in the corner, which was a huge turnoff. 2/5 SELECTION: It's an all-vegan juice bar, so they've got juices, smoothies, and shots, things like sandwiches, wraps, and bowls, and some grab-and-go type stuff. 3/5 WHAT I GOT: I got their Acai Bowl. I'm sorry to say this, but it was one of the worst acai bowls of my life, and that's saying something because I've had a ton. The texture of the acai mix was soupy and it wasn't cold enough; the granola was lackluster; the banana didn't taste fresh. Only the chia seeds and coconut shreds on top were standard and fine. So, I definitely wouldn't recommend it, unless they change their recipe or something. 1/5 SERVICE: The service was meh. The worker seemed nice, but our food took so, so long and they weren't even busy, and the stuff we ordered wasn't that complicated (three acai bowls and one wrap). 2/5

LET'S TAKE A LONG WALK…read more Wow, just realized I've shopping here for over 15 years already. How time flies! For me food has always been my #1 luxury expense. So while most students were spending their limited resources on beer and drinking binges, I went shopping at Kings. About a year ago they did a complete renovation and some shop designers feng shuid the place, making shopping here even more pleasurable. Their product range is so tempting I tell myself to not go crazy, just get what you need and get out...fast! Let me take you along a stroll through this luxury grocery store and the internal dialogue going on...... Oew Wijs & Zonen Java mocha coffee..."You hardly drink coffee, don't need coffee". Some of their Indian chai blend tea would be nice though.... Sweet, Gavottes Crepe Dantelle...."No, don't go there!" Walkers short bread cookies??...."You know what will happen, you're gonna eat them all in 1 go till you're nauseous" Kings' crown jewel # 109 Grisbi Lemon cream cookies then?? "Fine, just 1 package though and don't finish them all that same night!" Soup from the Soep Fabriek is always good to have as an emergency meal. Get some pure tomato soup ala Johannes van Dam. That Gastoria rouille will be perfect to liven up the bisque soup I got at Vis op Zuid. Kind of bland without it.... Don't even look at the lemon merengue pie or the lemon cakes at the bakery. "Keep walking, just get the necessities!" Orville Redenbachers popcorn is harmless, right? "Not if you put Ker' Amel butter salted caramel on there! Just get some plain Pur Natur bio yoghurt...and a few bags of scampi fries :) " Hey, what's that? Foie gras of the sea? Haven't seen it before, got to try it! Just recently avocado oil seems to have become the newest fad, but I have been using it for years already. Know why? Because Kings has been selling it for years! Oh, that reminds me need a new bottle of Les Huileries de la Croix Verte pistachio oil!!! Those fish cakes look tempting but are crazy expensive at €4,50 for just 2! I think I'm gonna whip some crab cakes up myself. I am gonna get me a few Lincolnshire sausages though. Ok, enough! Go to the cash register and get the f**** out of there! What's that smell? How did that bag of Java Mocha coffee get in my basket? The bill....€37 and all I got was some yoghurt, coffee and snacks and I end up still having to go to the Appie for my necessities :( To sum things up: Kings is seriously detrimental for your bank account...and waste line but good for the soul. It's more than just an expat store, it's a foodie's shopper paradise

I headed here with some specific stuff in my and even though I did not find it I left this place with lots of goodies and if I had followed my stomach's advise, and not my wallet's, I would have left with much more. If you live in Amsterdam you probably would not go to this place all the time, so it is handy to come with money and maybe a car because you will probably buy lot's of stuff here. It is nearly impossible to walk through this store without spending to much money on delicious stuff (also because stuff here is pretty expensive). Even though it is a pricey store I will definitely be back for some things that are not available at my nearest Albert Heijn. Nice extra; they had Halloween themed candies! Trick or treat! Nice!
